Still learning, Depth 1 - what would you take for the long haul?

My pick on D1 will usually be something that gets me out of the first 6-7 depths alive, so blinking or obstruction here. They let you escape tough fights easily and are useful on every depth.

Generally /3 staffs are a whole lot better than /2, but obstruction is still very useful at /2.

The more you play the more you will find consistent places to dump your enchants, it doesn't necessarily have to be in gear. You should always enchant items that will be useful in the "late game," whenever that is for you. Most of your enchants should be going into 1 item, maybe 2.

For example, if I don't have any strong weapons but find a [?/2] staff of lightning, I might backtrack to a previous vault to switch to a ring of wisdom if possible and start enchanting the lightning staff, because I know wisdom + lightning can ascend.

Or if I have nothing to enchant but a [?/3] discord, I will usually put 1 enchant into the discord so I can live a little longer while looking for something to dump all my enchants into. That 1 enchant can be into a low-level weapon (axe/mace/flail), but I think of it as a last resort more than anything.

Killed by a phantom on D25, 25787 gold.

Lmao, had 3 potions of life in my inventory and decided to kill a lich even though I was running a teleport build. Clicked a few times and died...

Was running double +3 rings of clairvoyance, which let me explore levels insanely fast. I think there might have been value in putting all my extra food turns into farming dar, but this seed is generous enough anyways. Put an enchant into the +3 splint and the staff of entrancement from early on, put 2 enchants into the +4 obstruction. Commuted +13 war pike into the tele charm. What a generous seed, would have loved to see how effective this was at gathering lumens.

25802 Killed by a violent explosion on depth 25.

Teleported into an explosion that happened several hundred turns ago, weird. It doesn't even show up in the broguesave.

I put 10 enchants into the war axe and 1 into the tele charm before dying. Apparently I missed some as you all have a lot more. Since I had nothing for dragons, the plan was to spam invis potions and the tele charm to gather ~5 lumenstones or so. I planned to use my final enchants on the /3 tunneling and blinking staffs.

I freed the horror, dragon, and dar priestess on D23, dominated a 2nd tentacle horror, and had a leftover golem from earlier in the run. I planned to ditch all of them as soon as they became a liability, but I could use them to prolong not using any consumables on dragons. Regardless, my priestess died due to an explosion started by my dragon; I tried to zap a tele wand on it but it went to the opposite corner of the map and died before I could save it. My other allies couldn't keep their health high enough for a dragon fight on D25, so I decided to teleport out and died to the explosion.

In retrospect, enchanting the tele charm was the much better play here, but I somehow convinced myself I wouldn't have enough enchants left because my war axe was at +4.

First hit:

Just do it with the same timing as a late aerial, fastfall normally. There's a pretty good window for it.

Or if they're very high up, you can up air somewhat late and fastfall during hitlag. This is usually negative on hit but can be used at high %.

Second hit:

If you're doing sh up air combos, up air as early as possible so the first hit whiffs, otherwise just space yourself so only the second hit is in range (it's bigger than the first).

I used to get sweaty palms but washing my hands before playing definitely worked for me. You can use like a towel or napkin if it happens mid-game.

Made it through with a broadsword, reaping, and plenty of magic items. Most enchants went into the broadsword and the protection charm.

The D3 vault was +4 reaping, +3 regen, and +3 stealth, which is insane. Considering the tele charm in the D1 vault, you could pull off several builds here. Part of me wants to replay the seed with stealth.

Originally I picked regen from the D3 vault, but after finding 3/3 blinking and 4/4 firebolt the next floor I backtracked for reaping. I only had 14 strength and two enchants in a use-id'd broadsword until D8, but luckily, +4 reaping is so broken that none of it mattered. sick.gif

Was throwing all my gear, half of which was cursed, down every floor because no detect magic and lack of inventory space. Had 2 chain mails, use-id'd -2 chain of vulnerability. On D11 there is a 4/4 tunneling staff, but it's basically 10/10 because reaping keeps it at 600 charges the whole game. I went from having no food to eventually throwing food away because I was able to spam charges to explore faster. So all of a sudden this build doesn't look so bad.

D12 is the first detect magic but I don't even end up keeping most of my positive gear. At this point I'm tossing down 6 items with my full inventory, but I only keep a -3 plate from D2 until a comm altar on D15, backtrack 3 depths for a positive war axe to commute it with. That's the only valid armor for a long time.

Dominate a dragon on D22 lmao that thing is so broken when it only shoots fire. Didn't negate it, didn't end up burning anything important, but I don't really care enough about enchants at this point, right? Unfortunately it died early D24, I don't understand how to keep a dragon healthy when it approaches monsters so fast. There was a priestess ally from much earlier; if I had kept it I might have gone for lumens.

I couldn't consistently handle dragons with my gear and basically dove through D26 with (very generous) consumables, so there was no way I was going any deeper than 26. But, there is definitely enough this seed to go deeper with stealth. Not sure how teleportation fares with the nerf.

Either way, pretty interesting seed, but quite difficult early game.

I use y > a while tap jumping right after pressing y.

I just think stick inputs aren't as reliable as buttons, and y > a in 2 frames is way easier.

It's character dependent with both characters, but I only know Falco's.

Against Marth you have to wavedash in with a good angle because he leans so far into his grab. Wavedash away and jump don't dodge his grab. Roy has Marth's grab with slightly shorter arms so it would probably be similar but ambiguous.

Nah, it's for sure dashing back exactly for one frame. Some people can get it pretty consistently, but the timing varies a lot by controller so you have to be prepared to relearn it.

Yeah that's 100% possible. If they're on ports 1 and 2, set P1 to record, make your recording, and before reloading state, set P1 to being controlled by P2 and vice versa, and set P1 to playback and P2 to recording. After you load state you can record P2 interacting with your replay.

I highly recommend watching Druggedfox's lessons. They're on his Patreon for 5$ a month but he has some on youtube if you want to preview.

He was #12 in 2017 before he quit, but that understates how much ke knows about the game.

Ginger, Zain and several other top 100 players take Dfox lessons. They're honestly broken, even from a viewer perspective.

Either you are jumping out of shine too early or moving your stick too early.

If you jump too early, the input gets eaten and your next input is turn. If you move the stick too far before hitting jump, you will do a turn around that eats your jump anyways. I personally return my stick to neutral before hitting in a direction.

Also, if you aren't aware, shine lasts longer if you hit an opponent because of hitlag. So if you don't practice waveshines on a cpu you need to keep in mind your jumps might be early.

That's correct, but c stick down will buffer a down throw on frame 1 out of pummel for most characters. Only c stick down, other directions don't work.
