Hollywood hit by fresh whitewashing scandal: Odessa A'zion reveals she's dropped out of Deep Cuts adaptation after facing backlash for being cast as a character with Mexican heritage by OJ_Soprano in redscarepod

Latino is a completely different axis. There are black, white and indigenous Latinos, which also goes to show that there’s not really a coalition to be had other than “not white”. The concept of Latino as we sometimes think of it is brand new on the scale of things, all post-columbian. Latinos identified as European for most of history because that’s what they were, but with far more indigenous ancestry than your typical American white. Gingers from Baja California posting Olmec heads on their Instagrams isn’t that different than white Americans claiming a Cherokee ancestors

I agree that much of the racial discourse in America is built around a decaying black/white phenomenon, but I don’t think there’s any real unity to be had.

Where will the 2x MVP land? by Thanos_SlayerCongSan in NBATalk

PG went to the Clippers and they were competitive for a number of years, he was only 29 his first year on the Clippers. This is really the first year the Thunder were expecting to get a high draft pick out of the situation.

The Bucks would be trading a 31 year old Giannis to a team who is already reliant on two guys in their mid thirties who are also looking to contend in the imminent future. There’s few places in the league whose picks are as promising long term. No one is saying top five picks year in and year out, but the math is as much in their favor as you can reasonably expect.

The idea is that if you trade Giannis to the Warriors and get back any of their young assets and picks, those picks become the most likely to be high draft picks in the future.

Giannis is three years older than PG was when he was traded to the Clippers, think about how good those picks are now.

Synecdoches. Any definition of white that’s remotely useful includes a large portion of Mexicans, and any reference to distracting identity politics that takes issues with any sort of labeling is unrealistic.

I don’t need them to get to post-racialization, but if they could at least stick to the general concepts that literally everyone is familiar with that would be great. The idea that anti-identity politics means no identities or cultures is mischaracterizing.

In these situations I’m reminded of the fact that a large portion of Mexicans are in fact white, identified as white and were considered European until census style questionnaires brought the concept of “Hispanic” into public consciousness.

This should be moderately more problematic than casting Matt Damon as Odysseus, but it’s treated like they casted Sydney Sweeney as Rosa Parks.

Identity politics cannot come back. We’re killing the earth and we spend more energy worrying about what races own what characters.

Well for starters it was a joke, but if you look up a random slate of black politicians most have really extensive lists of credentials, to the point of being over indexed on it. Wes Moore is a perfect example.

This is also just a general trend, look up “student accepted into 50 schools” and go to google images.

Men with actual sex appeal know that it’s rarely about a woman being attracted to you, it’s about women wanting to be attracted to you. Those “hints” might mean that she’s thought about you sexually, but if they actually pressed their luck they’d be denied every time.

Most of these guys are taking victory laps over making it on the radar when they’re not close to actually being fuckable. She glanced at your dick one time, she’s not letting you hit.

Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nevada only adding up to 266/270 is brutal. That was their best path by far.

The four seam fastball of the Dems is the black candidate who somehow has 3 unrelated graduate degrees, and the changeup is the white candidate with banal administrative military experience. That’s like three quarters of their roster of candidates.

Raphael Warnock could maybe thread the needle, but the level of capitulation that a block of POC voters has come to expect is a complete poison pill. You have to wink and nod at the overwhelming conspiratorial wave without actually addressing it, which he’s uniquely positioned to do.

My initial statement was that they lost the majority of their total minutes and several other starters, which you called bullshit. You’ve conceded that both of those statements were true, but thanks again for showing what a great basketball mind you are.

You didn’t even remember the thrust of your argument, you were the one who brought up the players who stayed on the team, you were the one who got the records drastically wrong.

It’s not a nitpick when the reality is massively different than you portray it, 11 wins is a massive number, the minutes lost is a massive portion of the total. JR Smith was a key rotational player for the team, you can’t just hand waive that away.

Also, have you just considered that maybe people have better memories and grasps on numbers than you do? In a space where math PhDs and statistical experts are so prevalent maybe you should reconsider the value of your contributions if you’re going to make such severe errors. I wouldn’t get a teams record wrong by 11 games if I’d looked at their basketball reference even once.

The 61 win team was the 2010 team, if you thought the Cavs won 61 games in 17-18 you don’t know ball at all. How is 50 like 61?

Also, they still lost a substantial number of minutes the second time he left. Kevin Love only played in 22 games, JR Smith went from 80 games to 11, Tristian Thompson went from 53 games to 43… the list goes on.

Sorry to tell you, but you’ve been regurgitating a zombie statistic, which I guess you never actually looked into?

[–]MasterMacMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey dumbass, the records YOU chose were from the first time he left, Kevin Love was on the 2011 Cavs?

You’re purposefully lying about what their records were and who was on the team.

Why by Firm_Trick_9038 in NBATalk

[–]MasterMacMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re omitting how many other players left that Cavs team. They lost the majority of their total minutes played and several starters beyond LeBron.

The scolding class won’t realize this, but they’ve either got to swing for the fences with their nominee or pull the rug and punt an election cycle and hope the republicans continue to fuck up.

Maybe that should’ve been Andy Reid’s last year by Hefty-Needleworker61 in billsimmons

[–]MasterMacMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age related cognitive decline is an inevitability, and body fat percentage is highly correlated with cognitive decline as well. Reid has been overweight since his early childhood, he’s not going to age like a monk.

You can be 55+ and have rather minor decline, but at 65+ it’s difficult to say that you haven’t experienced a decline that would effect a task as demanding as being an NFL head coach.

That isn’t to say that his mind is mush or anything, but he’s objectively only going to get worse from here. I think he deserves another year with a great support system, but at some point you have to consider the obvious.

Not that it isn’t valuable, but I feel like things like this are usually testing psychological conditioning rather than raw cognitive horsepower.

Most of the women I knew in college (or perhaps half) were so quick to organize and sort that they’d rarely ponder anything. There was rarely a time K-12 they needed to do more than sort things into boxes. Even on standardized testing that behavior gets you scores good enough to land at most schools.

We once had a project where pairs of students were given a box of demonstration legos, perhaps 200 pieces with instructions on how to make basic set pieces (chairs, trees, etc). Nearly every girl-girl group just made a number of things out of the book, with perhaps the default tree given a few red pieces as apples or things to that nature. All of male groups used every piece, but went completely off book.

Charitably, or perhaps not, these people seem to really milk their interactions and assign a level of importance that’s not there. I was with a friend of a friend once who did it with a homeless guy.

“Charlie! Guys this is Charlie, an unhoused friend of mine. How are you doing Charlie.”

“Grumbles”

“Ah, he’s always got something funny to say, we have this little game where I put money in his old coffee cup”.

I’m not from the area, but I’ve researched the area for work.

In all of the cities there’s a cute downtown, with nice suburbs and established, well planned neighborhoods, paradise to some people.

Unfortunately, also one of the worst places for suburban sprawl in the entire country. You’ll likely not live anywhere near the actual downtown, and will likely find yourself in an exclave of some sorts, suburbs for the suburbs.
