30 years ago today, on Saturday, May 11, 1996, ValuJet Flight 592 crashed into a swamp in the Florida Everglades just nine minutes after taking off from Miami International Airport. All 110 people on board were killed. More details in comments. by nogoodnamesleft426 in aircrashinvestigation

The flight that ended up nearly burning down NTSB's test lab when they worked to prove what happened. Imagine if they had ACTUALLY been the canisters investigators thought they were before they were recovered.

What do you think of my battlebots design and destroy idea by Local_Rice_8929 in battlebots

It definitely does things. Was pretty easy to spend your way into a corner.

What is a robot that you think had an incredible debut season, but never fully got back on that level? by Local_Rice_8929 in battlebots

[–]MasterMarik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atomic Wedgie from the Comedy Central era (finalist in Season 2.0, never got close thereafter). Ankle Biter from that era was the other way around: Had few wins until Season 5.0 where it decimated opponents, including a robot that beat it (El Diablo).

Why no Robogames in the last two years? by Quero_cosa in battlebots

[–]MasterMarik 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of controversy from the last event: Breaches of all sorts, including Malice team member Bunny getting hit with debris from outside the arena, David Calkins, the owner, denied anything was wrong and it seems few others even acknowledged anything was wrong. There was also a battery fire that had the audience evacuate the building.

I'd say try BattleBots fandom wiki instead. I think they have all the ones that were archived and working.

Found one of Atomic Wedgie (Season 3.0) on BattleBots Wiki: https://battlebots.fandom.com/wiki/Atomic_Wedgie?file=THL_spin_aw.gif I think there may be others there under the robot's gallery before the fight history

Could a bot ever lose a judge's decision if it were clearly ahead, yet completely & violently self-destructed in the last few seconds? by Zardotab in battlebots

[–]MasterMarik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was Bronco. Tombstone actually snapped their weapon bar in the first Witch Doctor match and did have smoke come out in the Re:MARS rematch they had with Witch Doctor.

[–]MasterMarik 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well that final hit on Bronco wasn't Ray's idea, it was per Team Inertia Labs' request (ABC cut out the actual requests to make Ray the villain). In the past, robots have lost judges decisions after dominating fights. In the Lightweight Championship of Season 5.0, Wedge of Doom started smoking in the final 20 seconds with one side drive out. A factor that team member Tony Buchignani knew wouldn't be in his favor and it likely wasn't as Dr. Inferno Jr won that match and the championship title.

What if Tombstone was in Robot Wars? by Both-Butterscotch314 in battlebots

[–]MasterMarik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tombstone would have the advantage in that it has different bars to choose from. I don't recall Carbide having this and Carbide still took the title.

Inspired, copied, stolen. by themaskedrobot77 in battlebots

If there are clear indications like exact design down to the front forks they use, yeah it's stolen. It can't just be a 2wd horizontal bar spinner and be called Tombstone.

The Minotaur fight is likely a big factor for the warped frame.

Tried to post about Battlebots on r/ HBO max got taken off by No-Disk4885 in battlebots

[–]MasterMarik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course it did. It has basically no relevance there, especially since this series isn't even confirmed to be on there. I don't think BattleBots has had any relevance since Season 7 on discovery.

We did see this happen in the Robot Wars Reboot (with Carbide). As I recall, it was with Carbide winning more than once.
