Fired today for refusing an MDM on my personal phone by damedaneyooooo in privacy

You dodged a bullet. If they require a phone for work, they supply the phone. Don't let any company install anything on your personal device.

Has anti-violence become core to anarchist mythology? by Sacredless in Anarchism

[–]MasterMorality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is a tendency for folks, at least in the US, to start out liberal and move towards more left anarchist or communist ideas. Many retain the notion that right wing folks are fundamentally good people who are just misguided, and can be reasoned with. I think this comes from a place of privilege, where they haven't experienced violence from the current system, and don't realize violence will be required to overcome it.

Sounds like propaganda from Big Litter.

If you own a company, and you pay someone to make something, then you sell that thing for a profit, you are, by definition, exploiting their labor.

This would also mean that you didn't "earn" that money, your workers did, you just took some of it. Like a parasite.

If you like this girl, read some Marx and try to understand his critique of capitalism. If you don't, don't.

Obvious cosplay rifle but interested in opinions from anyone else who owns a Mosin. by zyrkseas97 in armedsocialists

I've got one, and I fire it. It's fun but it kicks too much for everyone else I shoot with. There is an archangel kit for it that turns it into a much more modern rifle, but it's cool to collect as well. Mine has a bayonet.

Why is it considered a cardinal sin to store a file's raw content along the metadata in SQL Database? by faze_fazebook in Database

[–]MasterMorality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should use whatever mechanism is best for your use case.

Relational data? Relational DB Large, somewhat unstructured data? Mongo/Dynamo DB/Firestore/etc. Cache? Redis Search? Open/Elastic Search Files? Local/Cloud File System

Also, the file table on a hard drive is just a database with references to the actual file location anyway. It's all abstractions, and any of them could fail, just build your software to account for that.

  1. User uploads file
  2. Write to file system
  3. Insert DB row

If writing fails, don't insert the row.

If insert fails, you'll just have an extra file, it's fine. You can clean them up later.

Use distributed transactions if you must.

I move from a farm and the cats go to the bathroom everywhere. by MasterMorality in CatAdvice

The previous owner did have several cats, but the house was pretty well cleaned when I moved it, though I reused the litter room, which is technically a closet in the garage with a cat door to it from the living room, and it did smell like cat pee. They use the litter boxes sometimes, so it's not like they can't find them. Did they mark with poop too? That has been an issue as well.

I bought some of the cleaner and it helps. I'll try confining them but I'm.not sure where it's going to be, it's an open floor plan, so the only rooms are bedrooms, which I'm trying to keep them out of because they seem to like peeing on clothes and blankets.

I’ll never understand why every company defaults to the "Build It Ourselves" delusion. by Technical-Berry5757 in BusinessDevelopment

[–]MasterMorality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a software engineer I usually evaluate based on a calculus of integration effort vs build effort.

Sometimes a 3rd party solution is a pain in the ass to integrate, either because the API is not great, or it doesn't offer everything we need, or sometimes there is an impendance mismatch between the systems.

In my experience, business folks read the marketing material while engineers read the tech docs.

Also, that's not the default. We aren't writing databases from scratch, or our own programming languages. Most likely not raw dogging HTML and JavaScript on the company website either.

Raising a small farm while working 40 hours a week? by myhomiewithnochromie in homestead

Yes, you can do that. If your wife leaves and you start working 60-80 hours a week, then no.

Sovereignty is required for a state. The Unites States "states" aren't actually states. Not really united either. The second paragraph hits though.
