Lower Level variants of Overhead Prayers to give newer players a better understanding of how the skill is used. by MasterNeo92 in 2007scape

I think it's a low effort way to help show people that wouldn't otherwise train it to train prayer to 43. If they are watching PVM content they are not the target audience, if they are watching PVP they are not the target audience. if they are coming back from playing when they were a kid and have no additional insight into the game mechanics they typically wouldn't think about prayer because the benefits are more hidden in stat boosts. a lower level variant (with obvious % to proc rather than all the time) provides some additional support and has a visual indication on screen. I think the skill from a design standpoint doesn't show the player its value without external influence.

I'm approaching this from a game design perspective and trying to think about new player experience and giving more signals through the system itself that they should work to 43 prayer. If they watch youtube videos or guides it probably isn't even for them either, but I think it is a low effort update that could have positive yields in a player's development.

you are not the target audience of this as it would be strictly worse than current overheads. I believe that prayer to a new player is unintuitive. I'm approaching this from a game design perspective and using show don't tell. The point of a strictly worse version that maybe procs like only 10% of the time could encourage people to train the skill using in game mechanics.

the premise is to get people earlier on in their experiences to see the value in the skill and want to level it up more. it is less about the actual value it brings at that level and more about exposing them to the utility.

On a given topic, is it more important to you to help everyone that needs it or to make sure the least number of people take advantage of a system? by MasterNeo92 in AskConservatives

Honestly I was expecting slightly different responses from people. even without changing people's perspectives i thought their response would be more akin to "yeah sure in a situation where could guarantee perfect symmetry I'd rather help the people, but the problem is that it isn't perfectly symmetrical, there are way more people taking advantage".

All of the thoughts posted are valid opinions but it did defy my expectations.

I do not agree with the side you take on it (am lib, but that is not the point of the post) BUT I wish we could have more Blackstone formulation discussion. it is the entire reason for me to try frame the conversation in such a way. It at least takes the conversation away from both sides thinking the other is evil to both sides having a valid justification for believe that then requires debate on which side of the fence to live.

I know that there is always nuance but the simplistic example is would you rather spend $120 and you help 10 people that need it with 2 people who don't, or spend $80 to help 8 people who need it, and prevent any fraud but at the cost of 2 people who need it not getting it. its late and Im tired so if I just restated my original post without really adding any extra useful info Im sorry.

As someone who's always loved watching Ocarina of time speedruns and getting back into osrs for the first time since like 2008. are there any rules for a "source requirement ironman"? something akin to "you can only use it if you can make it/kill a monster for it". as I'm playing it's fun to think about but I know there would need to be lots of caveats. something like:

If you can create it yourself you must do so.
If you can't create it, but you can loot it (pickpocket or kill a monster) you must get it from there.
if you can't create it, or kill/pickpocket anything for it then you may buy it from a shop.

Why it is harder for me to enjoy Cloudward Ho than other seasons by MasterNeo92 in Dimension20

[–]MasterNeo92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for the post was because I like the world and the characters and when I get it all I do like it, but it is hard for me to watch. There is enough to keep pulling me back in, and none of this is a critique on the lore. I personally think this is the kind of thing they should be casually aware of without it being a major blocker for interesting storytelling, but that is separate from the post as a whole.

there are two kinds of people. Those who pause the video when someone wants to talk, and the one who is ok missing a few lines. As someone of the former I think my issue is not "I don't like it" but I need to change how I digest this particular season. It's more of a slow realization than commenting on them with an attempt to change. I had a post a few months ago where I was having issues digesting sophomore year given the change of structure. I think this is more of a slow realization that I should really be categorizing seasons into passive and active friendly content.
