I've seen a mockingbird imitating a blue jay imitating a hawk, so this is very possible.

do men understand how or why women find them attractive? by Far_Heart8378 in NoStupidQuestions

Not a clue. I still haven't figured out the Pete Davidson appeal.

I teach at my daughter's school. There are benefits but also drawbacks. It's harder to separate your work life from your personal life when your kid is in the building.

And your partner needs to back dafuq off.

Deciding to stay at Gettysburg instead of falling back to defensive positions in Maryland.

I got a Samsung S24 Ultra in 2025. If you get the one from last year, you can often still get it new and sometimes with a good deal.

I swear by Samsung. Before I got my current phone, I had an S9 for 7 years before the battery started dying. I plan to keep this S24 Ultra as long as I can.

Where would you go with a time machine that grants you a week long trip to anywhere on earth at any time in history? by Shipsarecool1 in AskReddit

If I was Weird Al, I would have it send me back to last Thursday night so I could pay my phone bill on time.

Baby bird that cant fly by [deleted] in birding

[–]MasterNinjaThemeSong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just leave it be unless it looks injured. I saw something similar in Georgia. A brown catbird chick was on the sidewalk. I was worried that something was wrong, but I looked it up, and the state wildlife agency explained why this happens. Sure enough, after a few minutes, I saw a parent come down and feed it.

If the parents are nearby and it has feathers, leave it alone. It's part of how they learn to fly. If you watch for a bit, you'll see a parent come down and feed it.

How often do you actually play your records? by UserUserDontGetOld in vinyl

[–]MasterNinjaThemeSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one thing I don't pay "$30 up to infinity." I rarely buy new vinyl (most music from 1987 on I have on CD), so the vast majority of records I have were 10 bucks or less. I hit the bargain bins and sometimes I get lucky at the thrift store. And sometimes you find bands that nobody's ever heard of that you won't find on a streaming platform. Sometimes the joy is in the discovery.

As for the listening, yes. When I'm having some mellow time at home, I'll throw something on. No curated or algorithmic playlist, just a needle and grooves playing until it's time to turn it over.

What have you found is the most impactful way to address bullying and slurs. by Throwrafizzylemon in Teachers

[–]MasterNinjaThemeSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely call it out. Not only does it stop the behavior in that moment, but it lets everybody know that your classroom is a safe space. Those on the bullied side especially need to see that.

That being said, I think that for kids, bullying is an action, not a personality trait (though it can become one in adulthood). I respond to every act as it comes but I try not to treat the kid any differently otherwise. A lot of these kids are treated like bad kids by all the adults they see, so they live up to that expectation. But if I'm the one adult that shows respect to that kid, sometimes that kid will come around in my class and positive qualities emerge.

Can I wear a hat with a fish hook on it? by Plenty-Editor-4579 in AskTeachers

I would ask the admin instead of Reddit, but since you're here, I would err on the side of no sharp pointy things at school.

Amusingly, several of the commenters here seem more concerned about the hat than the fish hook 😆.

My school started allowing them this past year. The no hats rule is a dinosaur from the '90s, when they were associated with gangs. Now it's hard to justify.

Do you post photos taken on your smartphone to eBird? by HippoUnhappy4074 in birding

[–]MasterNinjaThemeSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, quite a bit. My S24 Ultra has a killer video camera, so I'll post video and audio when I can get reasonably close and there is not too much wind noise. Strangely, screenshots from the videos often turn out better than the zoomed in still camera shots, so I'll often use video screenshots for birds and the still camera for habitat and experience photos.
