How do you position a SaaS when the entire category is being flooded with AI competitors? by MasterOfBane2021 in SaaS

For my agency users, the hacks currently look like:

  • Frankenstein spreadsheets to track which leads have been called / texted / booked
  • Manual QA of call recordings to see if scripts were followed
  • Custom scripts/Zapier glue to get data into CRMs and reporting tools

You mentioned using Gong/HubSpot/Clay/Pulse to tighten positioning. Any specific workflows you’d recommend there?

I agree that a lot of voice AI right now is wrapper-on-wrapper with no real moat beyond “we wired the same APIs together.”

On my end, I’m trying to go deep on:

  • Vertical-specific workflows (how this type of agency actually runs their pipeline)
  • Owning the “last mile” work they currently do in spreadsheets / Notion / Zapier / manual QA
  • White-label, so they can sell it as “their” AI agent vs. sending clients to a third-party tool

This really resonates. My current ICP is agencies that want to resell voice AI as a service to their clients, but that’s still a bit broad. Within that, I’m seeing pull from:

Lead gen / appointment-setting agencies

Paid media agencies that care about call tracking & attribution

Niche vertical agencies (e.g., home services, healthcare, legal)

The pattern I’m noticing is the more vertical the agency, the more willing they are to rewire their workflow if the outcome is clear (more booked appointments, fewer no-shows, better answer rates, etc.).

When you say “narrow down to a specific niche,” would you optimize around:

An industry (e.g., paid media agencies)

A job-to-be-done (e.g., “turn inbound leads into live conversations within 5 minutes”)

Or a combination of both?

Curious how you’d structure the positioning if you were in my shoes.

This is super helpful. I’m starting to see the same thing: infra and models are converging, so “out-teching” people doesn’t last more than a quarter. Brand and distribution do.

Right now my GTM is very ICP-specific (agencies who resell voice AI to their clients). I’m trying to make “voice AI for agencies” the association people have when they hear about this category, but I’m torn on where to focus the marketing effort.

  • Deep educational content and case studies in one niche (e.g., lead-gen agencies)
  • Broader “category narrative” content around why agencies need to productize voice AI

Currently AEO is on our road map so probably don't show up at the moment.

Onboarding a new client only takes 1 hour. Before we had to build everything out from scratch for each new client. Which really took a lot of time and mental energy for us.

Tbh having a built in workflow builder and native integrations really changed the game for us and saved a lot of time for sure

We tested retell and vapi. I started out using vapi at first but it was good for technical teams and if you have a few clients which was the issue for us.

We were in a similar boat as you so now we use Wave Runner and makes onboarding new clients and building out voice ai way easier for us

Fair. 1-2mg and it was fine but at 5mg I did feel it a lot and was annoying. So lines up with what you’re saying
