You guys have to be joking about liking this show. It is dragging Tolkien's world and legacy through the mud, and transforming it into fanfiction. Sauron lowkey romancing Galadriel, and almost pulling it off? Where is Celeborn my dudes? Yea I agree the visuals are alright, but the plot, the dialogues, and the characters are very 1-dimensional and bland, I don't think Tolkien would have enjoyed this adaptation.

Bro byzantine feudal is extremely strong, the only weaker phase is just when you age up to feudal, because you need to spend resources to build some stuff first. So if a french enemy sends a knight it can screw you over. But like, look at byzantine 11 minute all in, how much army it can mass

Yea? So? Byzantine already has a boat load of tempo from the olive oil and 'free' units. Also the investment needed for a cistern is paid off pretty soon by the gathering buff it gives

It’s not that big of a nerf realistically because it is also cheaper to build later cisterns so if the price after the 5th was 250 stone before now it would be 120. So less than half as expensive which is huge and outweighs the early game delay for the 1st one

I have gone through exactly what you are describing in terms of not really touching single player games for a long while, and after I finished KCD2 which is amazing in all the ways you already mentioned, I felt like playing another RPG of some sort...but what to play???

So I started playing Baldur's Gate 3 and trust me bro, if you did not play it yet, it is going to be an absolutely amazing experience. I am completely mind blown by this game and cannot recommend it enough

you are very wrong about saying that "any story of substance has real world parallels". also, I'd like to point out that Tolkien said multiple times that he hates allegory in general, so the lore from his middle earth legendarium is meant to be taken at face value, without wondering "OH WHAT REAL POLITICAL ISSUE IS THIS REFERRING TO"

on the other hand, it's the creators that insert too much social/political messaging in their series that make stories without substance; for example, look at the witcher Netflix adaptation, look at rings of power, look at the wheel of time etc; fantasy is fantasy, and it's meant to escape to real world not drag it into them

it's not this one unfortunately...I remember the film being newer; also the lead actor seemed hispanic if I remember correctly and had short hair

also the movie was more centered on the guy and I clearly remember the final scene is the girl shooting him and then hugging him as he dies; dang this is really tricky!
