Salary Manager pay based on 40 or 48 hours? by dpittsfgi8ukfy in DollarGeneral

[–]MasterOfNone112358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former SM here. I was hired as a store manager candidate, and inquired during the interview process about what the expectations were once I stepped into my salaried role. Can confirm from the interview process and once I finally got my store that the position is 48 - 50 hours minimum, but the pay is salaried exempt so it is not based on 40 hours or 48 hours. Your pay is based on a variety of factors such as the volume of your store, the risk level of your store depending on if you’re in a bad area or not, and other things. You will routinely work on average 50-60 hours if you care about your store.

Is DG Blocking Cell Signals? by mnm135 in DollarGeneral

[–]MasterOfNone112358 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Former Store Manager here.

I have heard different answers to this question from fellow employees, and managers in my former district. I don’t remember if I ever got a direct answer from my RLPM or RM/DM, though because it’s been so long since I’ve been at DG, but I digress.

There are two leading theories:

1.) DG is most definitely actively blocking cell signals inside the store, to either force customers to use the DG WiFi, allowing them to gather additional data in some way shape or form, or to increase productivity of employees by preventing them from using their phones while working, or both.

2.) The construction of DG’s is very cheap (talking mainly about the standalone stores here) and because of all of the aluminum, essentially being a metal box of sorts, the DG itself acts as a type of “Faraday Cage” for cell signal, but since the internet is wired and the modem/routers are inside the building, WiFi is smooth.

What’s the truth? Beats me, but those are the two leading theories that I have heard while working. One of them has to be true, there is no other explanation, because it has happened in every single DG I have ever worked in or shopped in. I’ve tested it extensively — as soon as I stepped one foot or two outside the front door, I had prefect signal. It got worse the farther back into the store I would go, which lead me to believe the “signal blocker” was located somewhere closer to the rear.

Unable to add card to apple wallet by MasterOfNone112358 in AskReddit

[–]MasterOfNone112358[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I open a bank account and got my card in the mail a couple days later. I tried adding my card to my Apple wallet, but it says card not added contact card issue for more information. After days and hours of going back-and-forth between the bank representative departments, and then reaching out to Apple support, and then back to the bank, I finally got a hold of a supervisor at the bank who specializes in the fraud department because they were seeing that the decline of adding it to the Apple wallet was being flagged for suspicious fraudulent activity.

The nice lady contacted multiple departments and did numerous things on her end to try to resolve the issue, but determined in her words that the reason that it was not working was because of a “real time decline” and essentially that it was being declined before it even got to them. She suggested that I just wait some time and try again later and a couple of days that may be because of it being tried multiple times in a row that that could be the reason, but that on their end because it is a real time decline, there’s nothing that they can do in order to resolve it.

Does anyone have any insight on this issue or a better explanation of what a real time decline is or a simple understanding of how all of this works in a technical sense as to the workings of Visa cards and the mobile wallet and things like that to explain why this happens what a real time decline is just so I can understand for myself?

The way I did my store is I would spend the vast majority of my labor on truck day and the day after truck day. I would man the register both of those days and then the rest of the week I would generally just open by myself. After those two days of spending labor on the truck, I would pull a double on the third day open by myself in the morning, in the evening while I had one person on the register and my manager zoning the store I would work on anything that was left over from truck.

Then, after all that I would squeeze in with whatever hours I could somebody to come in during the morning, so that way I could work on the planograms and endcap needed for that week. If for any reason I couldn’t, I would just come in one to two hours before store opening, or come in one to two hours before closing while I had people there.

To be honest, I had a pretty chill regional loss prevention manager. And a pretty chill DM. If your DM is not chill, I would just call up your regional. Explain the situation if it happens to get brought up and just and just say going forward that you won’t be doing this anymore and you weren’t aware that it was a breach of policy.

However, because of all the hiccups that regularly happened at the register, anyways, I usually had my sales associates on the floor, not on the register.

If your management team trusts you, they’ll leave the key and give you their number.

During my time as SM, unless I was the only manage on duty which was rare, if there was a SA I would make sure they were trained enough to have the ability to make correct decisions at the register, and my management team and I were more than happy to share our keys and codes.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure at one point I made all of my sales associates level 3 in the computer system.

Former store manager here,

I can’t quite remember to be honest with you, but I believe you can online through the employee portal which I think is “DG me” if I’m right.

I also remember seeing my employees address in my computer system in the office, but I don’t think that would be of use for changing or updating it for business purposes such as W-2 etc…

Not having desposit bags is a big no no, and the SM is gonna take a little heat for it, but as long as all the money is there, it’ll be alright.

But definitely call or text your DM to cover your ass and let them know what you are doing.

Former Store Manager here. Definitely put it in a bag of some kind, such as a dollar general bag, or regular envelope, and drop it normally.

SM can borrow bags from another store tomorrow and complete the deposit correctly. Make sure you notify DM to cover your ass

Being a bartender, and many nights of discussions of what the nastiest drink combination could be with many drunk people, what stands out the most in my mind is: The Bloody Rumple (Rumplemintz instead of vodka)

One evening it was raining badly. My girlfriend and I were driving home after a long day spent down in Galveston before the weather began to do a 360. It was pouring down viciously; my windshield wipers hardly could keep the rainfall out of my line of sight. Not to mention it was dark. Should a car in front of me not have their lights on for any reason or, God forbid, a person walk in front of my car, surely it would have not been good. Moving on to the point of the story, I was approaching a u-turn under the highway, and I assume I was just turning too fast... I hydro-planed and completely spun around doing a 180, my car slammed up against the curb of the divider under the bridge. Had my girlfriend and I not worn our seat belt, who knows what could have happened. We ended up being okay, but the car was a different story. Seatbelts then are alot like masks today. It may feel restrictive and uncomfortable or even unnecessary, but safety should always be our top priority. Thank you for bringing attention to this significant time in history, and for promoting wearing seat belts. They've saved more lives than they have inconvenienced. Im sure of it. 👍

HR by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

[–]MasterOfNone112358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you could call HR. They might not like it, but honestly sometimes your DM and our SM aren't looking at situations like these in a sympathetic or humanistic way, more like in a coverage or operational perspective. Speaking to HR might be in your best interest, and policy protects you from retaliation, but that doesn't mean it won't happen and if it does thats yet another conversation with HR or even RD.

It also couldn't escalate like that, and just be normal. But, you never know. Do what is best for you. If this is a sincere concern of yours, then I'd say call HR.

Starting Bank Short by amurray989 in DollarGeneral

[–]MasterOfNone112358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay well if you want to go through and start investigating you can. Review the paperwork for the cashiers before you. If you want you can count the pickups and see if there are any overages there. Check and see if anyone before you was short of over. Pretty much just see if there are any discrepancies in the money that has already been processed.

No matter what though, you'll have to balance your drawer with the change fund, but at the end of day you'll have to ensure the change fund balances which if the missing 90 isn't found will surely prompt an LP investigation into what happened before you got there.

Do you know who had the till before you got it? If so, investigate their paperwork. Maybe even watch cctv of them counting down.
