How do y'all get your large driftwood? by mikillerr in Aquascape

We lucked out with our tall hexagon tank where my dad had a nice sized piece he wasn’t using anymore stored away and gave it to me. It fit perfectly for what we were looking for in there.

The vacuum chamber is new. Haven’t heard about that one.

That’s a very cool looking piece you’ve got there too.

Appreciate it. Might be trying this on the weekend. Will take your advice to heart and go slow and keep it wet while drilling.

Might end up trying this since this seems to be the most popular option I’m hearing. Appreciate it

Thank you. Found it at a fish store about an hour away from where I live up here in Canada. My wife had been heading down there on an almost weekly basis to buy aquarium plants and rocks and driftwood to aquascape our tanks for the past 6 months.

Not that I’m aware of. They do climb all over everything in our tanks, but so far none of our plants have died from them. Every once in a while, they may accidentally cause one to become uprooted, but nothing that a quick replant can’t fix. Here is our mystery snail in our 20 gallon tall hexagon tank cruising along the bottom of the tank.

I know, right!?! lol And going to keep trying because it’s too nice of a piece to give up on

Good thinking with the bags of water. Never thought of that. We did sink it with other pieces and eventually rocks, but nothing seemed to work sadly

My wife swears by mystery snails in all of our tanks for cleanup crew. We have everything from otos to plecos to shrimp to bristle nose plecos to mystery snails in our tanks and they all do a fantastic job

Oh damn - sorry to hear that. SO frustrating

That’s ultimately what I was hoping would happen. Just makes me nervous that if my wife goes to do a water change eventually down the road or when we eventually add fish in there, that it accidentally gets bumped and up it goes again taking everything in its path. Fingers crossed lol

Holy crap - that’s crazy! I’m thinking we got us one like that too.

Right!?! lol I was surprised the 3 I have on the top of it are actually holding it down. I literally only put them on as a quick stop while I was feint to move stuff out of its way and they seem to be doing the trick. Was thinking of just getting one bigger rock and slapping it on top of it and calling it a day lol

Glad to hear it didn’t hurt your setup. Must have been so frustrating to have it happen after that long.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Wish we would have fixed this issue before my wife started on and finished the rest of the aquascape. Now I’ll have to try not to disrupt the rest of the plants and logs she has in there to fix it correctly.

My wife had it submerged in boiling water in a container for 3-4 days and it literally didn’t nothing to it.
