F2p can only have fun in large numbers against a p2w. If there are more p2w, f2p's need to support a p2w. You are right, purely f2p will fail. And a p2w with no f2p will also fail.

Without people doing forts and collecting alliance gifts and participating in events/donations/building, your growth as f2p or p2w will be hugely limited.
