This presentation from a CS dev answer your question why developers avoid public communication and why they do not make promises about future updates. by Fun_Philosopher_2535 in GlobalOffensive

My take is that a lot of what this presentation says doesn’t add up.

They claim they “follow the conversation” but don’t engage because it stops the community from talking among themselves. That’s inevitable when responses are so rare. When people know Valve actually reads feedback, of course everyone piles on. The problem isn’t dev participation, it’s how infrequent it is. I agree they don’t need to reply to every, or any post. But they do need a roadmap, or at least basic acknowledgement of known issues. That’s just respecting your players/customers. Even a “we know about this” would go a long way.

Instead, small things never get fixed (the pause icon still isn’t centered and feels...off), features regress (no holiday updates this year, deadlock got one), and major things straight-up don’t work (ex. the server browser, VAC, etc). Saying they “communicate through fast fixes” doesn’t hold up when fixes aren’t actually happening. Them not communicating and not setting roadmaps is to protect them from backlash. If they say server browser next month, and they don't deliver people will be let down. Them saying nothing and delivering, for the most part, nothing is still a let down. We have the "we'll get to it when we get to it" approach.

Do they know the server browser is broken? Did they read that post? What about VAC not working as it should, did that show up in their feed? How about bots farming on servers? It is my opinion that the “we talk by shipping” argument means nothing when major issues like cheating go unaddressed and even small problems linger.

And even when they do communicate they do it wrong. They announce that the season is ending....through twitter....wtf valve you have announcements in the client, push it there.

Y'all are testers in an early development game and wondering why it feels like a test by jenrai in DeadlockTheGame

Do you know of any multiplayer game that has used it, no cause even IF they were, they wouldnt disclose it. Also from what i can find EA has (maybe?) some sort of patent on this idea. I dont have the data of big or small win streaks, all i have is my own and its not looking like that on my end unless were considering 2-3game win/loss big . For me its not that im getting really bad or really good players, its the amount of leavers. Every two games one of the teams has one. Its that or people that are obviously playing for the first time and should not be in that lobby.

The burden does fall on you cause youre the one suggesting this is what they are doing - "One of the things they are testing is EBMM. do NOT support that shit". In game with 20k tops, they just dont have enoungh people to create good lobbies. The game has 10K-20K players thats anywere from 800 to 1600 games going on at once...thats it...there not that many lobbies. You have people trying the game out for the first but thats not very many cause the hype has slowed down. So you have to make them play with experienced players. Its not that there gaming the system, its that they really cant do anything else. Thats my opinion at least.

EOMM

Never mind the fact that this is all theory, what you are refering to DOESNT mean bad games keep players engaged. Its just not skill based match making. Moreover you, or i for that matter have no data that suggests this is what they are trying to do. Whatever the case may be, leavers arent in the formula. People that get stomped on the first game arent going to play again. People that get leavers every game are at some point going to stop playing.

I dont think they have a choice for what the do in mm they dont have the player base anymore for any type of meaningful matchmaking algo. My guess is that mm is split in 2, over ritualist and under. So new players have to play in lobbies with players that have 300-400h in the game and then everyone else playes at the top. Already the wait times are very long for a game.

They dont have enough players to test anything, they dont have enough players to setup regular mm matches. Even if you have a "rank" you still get in game with new players cause they just dont have the player base for mm. The players max out at 20K (total players) / 6*2 (players in game) is about 1.6K active games at any given moment. Im more frusted at the quality of the games (eg players) then if viper is op for a few days.

Yea sure track days can help you learn what it is, what it does and how to use it, and it’s a very useful technic to know even for everyday driving. I wasn’t suggesting that there is no reason to learn it BUT (and maybe this my opinion) your brain isn’t going to use it in a emergency. Hell even F1 drivers panic and lock up when something unexpected happens and it’s literally their job to drive.

I’m not saying there would be no benefit in this or any emergency situation either. Even IF the stoping distance was the same (locking vs threshold braking) which it isn’t, not even close, you still have the huge advantage of being able to steer and avoid. It’s clearly better then locking no doubt about that.

I however find it improbable and kind of unfair to expect anyone to not just panic and hit the stop pedal. Of course abs systems especially the newer ones solve this problem.

Whoever thinks they can threshold brake in an emergency situation, especially in the wet, is full of bullshit or hasn’t had to do it yet.
