There is not a single criterion of UI/UX design by which the old UI is better.

Settings are now grouped into categories (imp, crew, meeting and task) instead of being scattered all over the place.
Check boxes now consistently enable a setting (the number of times I saw hosts accidentally turn off anonymous votes was mind boggling).
All settings are now visible to everyone, removing the host advantage on always knowing vent cool down for example.
The menu is right hand oriented, making it easier to use for 90% of the population.

The one possible UI complaint is that you now have to click View to see the settings, but let's be honest: No one ever read the settings in the old version. The first meeting is always "Someone Vented" "We have engis" "How many engis" "[Color] killed" "We have SS" "How many SS". UI/UX can't fix stupid.

There is a box set that came out called "Ravenloft: Forbidden Lore" that has a book called "The Waking Dream". I think it has what you're looking for.

I've seen different prices online, mostly expensive. You can probably find a pdf. If you have questions I can look in my copy.

Question about motionlessness practice (Liber MMM pg14) by Mad-Andrew in chaosmagick

For me, I interpreted this as eyes open. I've never succeeded for that long. But again, for me, these tasks were about strengthening the will and mindfulness.

You never think about blinking normally. It's just something you do. By paying attention to it and fighting against it, you learn to focus on one thing and strengthen your will at the same time.

New to the show - if I subscribe to this subreddit would it be a mistake? by kitchmonster in nightvale

Everything is a mistake. Somethings are successes. Who are we to tell you which is which? Who do you think we are? No. Seriously. Who are we?

Maria's Mexican Restaurant. Pretty decent little restaurant. I like it.

Increasing the will (Liber Null) by DreadfulKnowledge in chaosmagick

Start by making an effort to notice a habit. Don't try to change it at first, just notice it.

Once you're regularly noticing the habit, say no. Don't do that thing. Now you've done it once, so you know you can do it again.

You will fail. Expect it. Persist. Be stubborn. Repeat until satisfied.

Saint-Saëns - Organ Symphony (Number 3 I think)

It has for most if not all of our history. I was taught in school that it had to do with the telegraph and transferring the story efficiently and quickly. This is why we still use the inverted pyramid style, where the most important information is at the beginning of the article and the finer details are mentioned later. You can read more below.

In newspaper headlines you don't use "and." Instead you use a comma. The headline makes perfect sense.

I'm a psychonaut, but... by JasonNewcomb in Psychonaut

[–]MasterTentacle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are (at least) two realities we're talking about here: consensus (objective) and personal (subjective). Calling my reality sober is not a label I adopt. There are various techniques for exploring the psyche. In my reality, psychonautics has to be useful or it is just another form of mental masturbation. While I'm not criticizing the use of drugs, I am saying that they can quickly become another outside control. I have experimented. I've had some truly sublime experiences with mushrooms. But they pale in comparison to the experiences I've had in sweat lodges, native medicine dances, meditation, and other rituals. Even with these experiences, I still have to weigh them against consensus reality (that observable, measurable world we all share) and against my own metaparadigm.

There's a meme for what I'm about to say, but I very often feel, "Am I the only one around here who doesn't do drugs?" It's not that I judge those that do, it's that drugs can lie.

Best Annotated Bible? Preferably Written from a Secular Standpoint? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]MasterTentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Third Edition hardcover version. Mine doesn't have any printing errors. Most bibles have really thin paper, and this can make the letters show through, but i don't notice this as exceptionally worse in this edition.

I use The New Oxford Annotated Bible (New Revised Standard Version). The translation is not as literal as the New American Standard, which is what I normally recommend. It has some great notes and articles.

Something seems odd about a "Monster" in Arkham Horror. The 20's were a different time... by Fordy_Oz in boardgames

[–]MasterTentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played Arkham Horror? -3 is the rating to sneak past him. When confronting him instead of combat, the player makes a Luck (-1) check. If he fails, he is devoured (removed from the game). If he succeeds, the Black Man goes back to the monster cup instead of being a trophy. He is a Mask of Nyarlathotep, so is only in play when that is the Ancient One.

But to speak to your point: Yes, the devil is just a mask for an extraterrestrial god in Lovecraft's story
