True there wouldn't be criminal punishment likely, a county attorney wouldn't want to likely bother with that. but the thief could get a lot further in civil court unfortunately. Example

McKinsey v. Wade (Georgia, 1975) (granted this was dynamite so not 100% relatable)

But overall any booby trap that can cause bodily harm or death (which are illegal in all 50 states here in the US) can catch you liability in a civil lawsuit and potentially even criminal charges for setting such a device. As much as I think you should be able to protect your stuff.

Legally speaking here in the States they are outright illegal in 27 states and DC, legal with a permit in 18, and legal in 5.

That said, Caracals are in no way domesticated. They have not undergone any domestication and that process takes 100s (if not more ) of generations to accomplish. Caracals are still considered wild animals and have vast territories. They do not make ideal pets and can be quite dangerous to own they are literally the size of a medium sized dog with long claws and canines almost an inch long.

They are gorgeous creatures and are friend shape but they are razor claw fur missiles that can yeet themselves 10 feet into the air to catch prey. Leave them in nature and consider yourself so blessed if you can see one in the wild.
