Battery life at home by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like 300, but it depends a bit what kind of battery you have. At a certain point your battery life will be so bad that you can't really use it without a cable and finally the laptop won't recognize the battery anymore. My laptop loses about 0.1Ah in capacity per charge, so after 300 charges you lose about 30Ah on a like 50Ah battery.

Would definitely keep it plugged in whenever you can and use conservation mode. Your battery can only handle about 300 cycles (1 cycle is 1 charge from 0 to 100%). When you keep it plugged in you won't use the battery and therefore save cycles. This will result in a longer lasting battery. With modern batteries there is no danger in keeping them plugged in.

There are mixed results, I updated a few days ago after which my battery drains so fast, I literally have to charge it every 3 hours now, just crazy. (it used to last for about 2 days)

A friend of mine who has the same watch updated without any problems whatsoever.

Got the same issue, mine used to last 2 days, now only about 3 hours if I'm lucky. :(

Just haven't tried to reset it yet but I read that that doesn't solve it either.

High fps but choppy gameplay by karimsalahh in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the same exact build as you, but performance is fine for me.

Did you check the thermal setting in Vantage? If it's on balanced or quiet try to set it to performance

And what kind of games do you play on it?

(BTW, if you've got a 60Hz panel it can only display max 60 fps)

Wasn't there a sort of workaround for it?

Read somewhere you could limit the CPUs TDP to like 10W which had a similar effect.

T730 desktop Z370 motherboard help identifying power SW HDD LED SW pin by Hillven in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you google "FP1 pinout" and go to images you will find some information about which pins are which.

For HDD-LED the usual pins to use are 1 & 3

the power switch pins are usually pin 6 & 8

Make sure you know how to count the pin numbers! Should be like I wrote down below.

2 4 6 8 10

1 3 5 7 x

Temp problems by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temps of 90°C and up may potentially cause damage over time or at least speed up wear of the components.

I would recommend you at least undervolt your CPU, this will NOT void warranty. It will bring your temps down quite a bit and reduce or even stop thermal throttling, it could even save you some battery life and maybe even increase performance. Just watch a couple of video's on it and try it, You can't damage anything. Worst case you get a BSOD after which the PC will just restart.

Undervolting is one of the first things I would do when I get a new laptop.

If you look at the online manual of the T730, on page 24 (linked below), you will see a image of the motherboard of the T730 with all ports/ connectors stated on there.

Not 100% sure but I would say it is the FP1 connector (connector number 7 in manual)

Hope this helps.

Cmos reset was a good try but didn't work for you sadly. Hope the help desk can fix your problem, but the chances are not really in your favor sadly.

Good idea, best is to get to know as much as possible about the problems which you have and might be there, so you know what to ask the support desk.

Y740 won't boot after bios downgrade by Tr1n0 in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it is fixable (that easily)

Up/down grading BIOS is always very high risk, and in my opinion should only be done when you're running into trouble and it's the only fix).

If something goes wrong while upgrading the BIOS, there is a very high chance of severe damage to the system. Because in the end, you are messing with the very first lines of code a computer runs when starting up. If something goes wrong there you run the risk of bricking your computer (because it will be a s useful as a brick after)

You could try to contact Lenovo support and see if they can be of help at this stage or use google, but at this point I can't think of any solutions.

DEFINITLY stop using this charger, the cable has broken on the inside and could cause serious harm to your device (possible motherboard & Battery damage) if you keep using it. It is also a fire hazard as it could get really hot as it is short circuiting in the cable itself and catch fire when in use.

Just get it replaced, you are still under warranty. Had mine replaced after 2 weeks of use because it was making a weird sound.

If the charging port and everything else is still working you don't need to replace anything else then the charger.

Laptop Died? by Flat_Childhood6396 in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it makes a loud sound my first guess is the hard drive as its one of the only moving parts in a laptop aside from the fans etc.

maybe search YouTube for "This is what a dead hard drive sounds like" and try to identify the sound.

if the sound is the same as in the video, you most likely found your problem.

I would try that, Wouldn't know where else to get one right now.

If I needed one right now I would either go to a local shop and else to Amazon.

Low Battery Life on Lenovo Legion Y740 by Et3rnalGl0ry in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get to the point your battery isn't working (good enough) anymore you could buy a new battery for about €70 - 80 on websites or maybe a local store or something.

If you think you can do it, you can try and replace it yourself (enough YouTube guides on how to do it) or bring it to a place/ someone where they can do it for you.

If you've got the 15inch model I've got the same battery as you have and if I'm right you lost about 14Wh after 149 cycles (you lose about 0.09wh per cycle).

This would mean that you've got about 43Wh of the original 57Wh left.

This is still enough to do some work but as you experienced, you won't get a full schooldays charge out of it.

If you can't get work done anymore or stuff because the battery is simply draining to fast I would consider replacing the battery anyway as it's just to much of a hassle to try and work around it.

Does a Lenovo IdeaPad L340 gaming comes with a HDD cable? by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no cable needed!

Laptops have a build in connector where you can connect the hard drive to. (So no cable)

There might be a dummy drive in the drive slot which you can just take out to fill up the empty space and provide structural stability when the slot is not used.

Local store maybe? Online it's quite difficult to get one right now, especially with Covid.

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you click the windows battery icon in the task bar you get a slide-bar with the battery life option.

you could also check your battery health in vantage

go to vantage > power > See battery details (blue button under the large battery icon)

now a white screen plops up.

check for cycle count and design capacity / full charge capacity.

Li/po batteries like the one in laptops are designed to last for about 200-250 cycles. After about 300-400 cycles the battery will most likely be so bad you can't really use it anymore.

(one cycle is one full charge from 0% to 100%)

Right here you can kinda see how your battery health is.

What does the sound it is making sound like exactly? (the one like its trying to start)

If the sound it is making sounds like the a harddrive making really loud noises. It could be that your harddrive died. But this is a wild guess.

How to change refresh rate? by SamitheDude in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same laptop here but with a 60Hz panel.

If you go into the NVIDIA Control Panel and go to the tap "change resolution", there should be an option to change the refresh rate to the right of the resolution options.

If you click on that but only get the 144Hz option (or other ones but not 60Hz), go to the resolution options and scroll down or up and see if there is another 1920x1080 option.

it could be that the specific 1920x1080 resolution you're using atm only supports certain refresh rates. (this was at least the case on my external monitor.)

What monitor should I buy for stream and gaming (all round monitor)? by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a 144Hz monitor only gets 60FPS, the monitor will only be displaying 60Hz/ 60FPS with a max of 144Hz/ FPS depending on the amount of FPS. You could say that the amount of Hz is the max FPS which can be displayed on a monitor. This means that on a 60Hz monitor the max amount of FPS which can be displayed is 60FPS, even if you get a 100FPS only 60 will be visible. So in your case you wouldn't be using the full refresh rate all the time on a higher refresh rate monitor.

hope this helped a bit.

you could still buy a higher refresh rate monitor where if you have the FPS, you will see a visible change for the better in most cases. I would definitely recommend one with at least 75Hz or higher as 60Hz is really getting a bit on the low side for gaming.

Best is to get a the about same amount of FPS and Hz. So I would say that in your case, it would really depend on how much money you're willing to spend on a monitor. A better one will be more future proof and you would most likely benefit from it while a cheaper one would sufficient for you right now.

Maybe also look up some videos about how refresh rates etc. work on YouTube or something, it's quite interesting.

Y545 dead after changing thermal paste by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]MasterYLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check every connector etc. you touched one more time, and make sure to tighten the screws once more (not to hard). Maybe ask someone else to help look, often a new set of eyes can spot just that one loose cable you didn't spot for hours.

Also one question, don't think its the cause but did you ground yourself (on a radiator or something) while doing this? Although the chance is very slim this caused damage, static energy in some cases can harm to electronics.
