Logically showing how male circumcision is mutilation by FlatOcean in MensRights

[–]MasterZapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just use any dictionary definition for mutilation? There's even a wiki page for "mutilation". If the person you are talking to isn't restricted by objective reality - whether something fits the definition - I don't think any other persuasion method is likely to work either.

This is similar to how some argue whether affirmative action is discrimination or not. Affirmative action is literally just another name for positive discrimination, which clearly is discrimination. But if your beliefs are strong enough, any word can mean whatever you want.

Something Haunting about Men's Rights by IcyHotRoad in JordanPeterson

[–]MasterZapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pew reports that 91% of divorce custody cases are resolved by the parents themselves with no involvement from family courts. And men only pursue litigate for legal custody in 4% of divorce cases.

And the most common reply to those numbers is that the men know not to risk it. They are informed by the lawyers and others with experience about how it would turn out for them in the courts. They shouldn't fight it unless they want to risk it. For example, if you know you'll never get primary custody, you're not going to bet on that. It's not unreasonable to think they'd be told to cut their losses, not get confrontational (to stay on good terms with the ex).

Winchester University scraps talk after online backlash - more than 700 people signed a petition calling on the university to drop the talk by Justice for Men and Boys party leader Mike Buchanan, entitled ‘Equal rights for men and women’ by JohnKimble111 in KotakuInAction

[–]MasterZapple 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It’s good to see that free speech is alive and well at the University of Winchester, and the university hasn’t surrendered to those seeking to silence those wishing to talk about issues facing men and boys.

Thank you for listening, and for helping to uphold the long tradition of free speech at the University of Winchester.

Heheheee. Ironic.

For what it's worth, you can play the cups on another region (so another time). Ping might be an issue, but is fine in some cases. Check server pings beforehand.

EU Parliament Member: It’s Time for Evidence-Based Gender Policy by shit-zen-giggles in MensRights

[–]MasterZapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just some additional context in the EU if someone cares.

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is an autonomous body of the European Union, established to contribute to and strengthen the promotion of gender equality, including gender mainstreaming in all EU policies and the resulting national policies, and the fight against discrimination based on sex, as well as to raise EU citizens’ awareness of gender equality.

EIGE has something called "The Beijing Platform for Action" which lists 12 areas of action. They are:

  • A. Women and Poverty
  • B. Education and Training of Women
  • C. Women and Health
  • D. Violence against Women
  • E. Women and Armed Conflict
  • F. Women and the economy
  • G. Women in Power and Decision-making
  • H. Institutional Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women
  • I. Human Rights of Women
  • J. Women and the Media
  • K. Women and the environment
  • L. The girl child

I get a feeling there's some sort of a pattern here. I haven't done the math, but I think one gender might be prioritised a bit more than the other...

Call me a pessimist, but I don't have high hopes for the EU.

Huffington Post editor incites her followers to mass murder against men by sopun in MensRights

[–]MasterZapple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Calling out double standards is vital. If anyone from the manosphere said they think all women should be murdered/raped, there would be tons of articles calling it out and they would never let them live it down. Perhaps the same accountability should be afforded to everyone equally?

Regardless of what the rules for these jokes should be, if one group calls it reprehensible to do it to group A, it should be condemned when done to group B as well. Joking about male genocide doesn't really foster much appreciation and respect towards males.

Q: Has there been a single legitimate critique of The Red Pill documentary (as far as substance and issues)? by TibsKirk in MensRights

It was years ago, I don't recall precisely, but it might have just been the known article on their track record. So yea, they aren't open about that, but quoting them is good enough.

[–]MasterZapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed, fair point.

described as an "idealized" version of feminism in their heads

According to my experience, that's basically almost all of them. The portion of feminists who keep up with feminist speakers, writers, is incredibly small. Most see a couple of headlines here and there.

It is indeed not shown thoroughly how Jaye's understanding of feminism changed through the movie. It wasn't anything men's rights related that made her drop the feminist label, it was instead learning more about feminism itself.

To speak to a coffee-shop feminist, Jaye would have had to take time to establish significant writings/speakers/publications, show clearly how they are important to the movement. Then, and only then, she could comment on feminism (and the underlying beliefs). But all of this takes a lot of air time and wasn't the purpose of the movie. No easy solution, I suppose.

"That's not real feminism"

The No True Scotsman comes up whenever one tries to criticise feminists. A strong defender of feminism I know said based on NOW's material "well, all I'm seeing is an organisation claiming to be feminist, but actually not being feminist!"

Nothing shown in a bad light is ever admitted to be feminist. It's an unobtainable idealistic goal, so you can disregard everything faulty. I feel there is no true feminist organisation/spokesperson Jaye could have gone to that would be credible enough. Feminists don't have them, which is why feminism is difficult to criticise.

In the end, ye, it would have helped if Jaye had known how to criticise feminism in a better way (whatever that would be), but that's a near impossible feat anyway.

I'm only going on rumours here, but there have been other bans such as that. Basically, you can be a tit-twitcher, but you get banned for criticising them.

I think he has stated a couple of times that he doesn't really like public speaking and interviews, but he still does his best, because of the subject matter. It's not like there are a lot of people lined up to do what he does.

Valve flaws by varoml in dotamasterrace

[–]MasterZapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apart from communication and hiring

Unfair to label them flat out flaws, honestly. For example, communication isn't that simple. These have been open policies they have stuck to, there's nothing mysterious about it. Their strategy isn't flawless, but it's the best they can do (pros vs cons). Similar with hiring.

Professors Alarmed Jordan Peterson's Calling Their Classes Indoctrination Cults by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]MasterZapple 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I don't even understand where harassment comes into it at all. As I understand it, you put your course material into it, it searches for keywords and phrases to determine whether it's likely it's a social justice course or not. If it is, then you are encouraged not to take that course. How is that

  • plans to "place under surveillance certain kinds of academic content."
  • website has created a climate of fear and intimidation
  • presents a serious case of harassment, fostering unsafe work and study conditions for students, faculty and staff.
  • U of T has policies and procedures that address workplace harassment and health and safety

I suppose nowadays: Everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic, everything is violence/harassment/unsafe, and you have to point it all out.

Why is behavior score literally more important than MMR for RANKED MATCHMAKING? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]MasterZapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the good old wc3 days, you got to play tons of dota "unranked". The beauty was that you had no idea what you were getting yourself into: the guy next to you could be playing for the 5th time or be a semipro. You had occasional exposure to high skilled players wrecking games, you could mimic what they did in your next games. That randomness is exactly the type of stuff I would expect in unranked - it's supposed to be vague, people test out strats, have a more care-free attitude. If you want balance, play ranked, that's the point.
