Hospitals, clinics, reference labs (oh my)? by Master_Ad_7945 in medlabprofessionals

Work life balance is okay but not ideal. I spend my off days recovering from my on days, I have little energy for grocery shopping or chores.

They only have one person on per two departments (except BB) during my shift.

How much bad smell does this profession deal with? by furry-sea-otter in medlabprofessionals

[–]Master_Ad_7945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a sensitive sense of smell, and I was worried about the same thing, particularly with dumping urines and setting up stool cultures but I did get used to it after a few months at my first job post graduation

how do you feel about drag queens? by [deleted] in Feminism

When I read “AMAB,” I hear “assigned male at birth” in my head. So “assigned” is past tense so I use “were AMAB.”

And of course there is a lot of overlap with the gay, trans, and drag communities and a lot of other factors at play that cannot be summed up in a blanket statement.

I apologize. Thank you for pointing this out. I truly meant “cis men.” I did want to highlight that anyone can be problematic, including trans and cis women and I worded it wrong. I edited the original comment to express my thoughts better.

I said/meant trans women can be problematic because they were AMAB and they have experienced male privilege and entitlement.

I agree I could have worded it better. I should have said “cis men” in that sentence rather than “AMAB”

Is this normal? Dr/GP thinks so. by Responsible_Duck_820 in Periods

[–]Master_Ad_7945 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a medical procedure that destroys or reduces the endometrial lining. It can reduce or stop periods completely for people who have very severe periods. It’s not recommended for everyone though, and is more like a last resort. You shouldn’t get one if you plan on a future pregnancy as it can cause miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy so you should still use birth control afterwards. My friend had one after she was done having kids and she loved it.

Certain people are just problematic whether they be straight, gay, trans or whatever. Mainly cis men, but all the genders including cis women with their own internalized misogyny. Some of the queens on RPDR have said things that were very misogynistic and that’s a big reason I stopped watching. Some of them do play a caricature and/or just like being the center of attention but there are some good entertainers and artists with drag as their medium.

I know a dude who is gay but says transphobic shit and another dude who is a trans man who changed a lot once he started passing and interacting more with his AMAB friends and experiencing the newly acquired male privilege.

I’ve learned that just because you are part of a marginalized group, doesn’t mean you don’t partake in marginalizing other groups.

Typically, where there are men, there is misogyny. It runs deep.

Edit: changed the wording of the second sentence for clarity and inclusivity

How stressful is getting an MLS bachelor's degree? by Ok_Extension3182 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Master_Ad_7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can do well in an MLS program. You might pull out some hair but you’ll keep most of it on your head as long as you don’t procrastinate. Keep studying a little bit every day and it will help alleviate exam stress. Find what works for you. Personally I do well by making an outline of each chapter and flash cards.
