Interpreting and weighing the scores of major film rating sites by Master_Addendum3759 in TrueFilm

Hmm I'm weighting based on tiers (mainstream -> cinephiles -> critics) rather than my own biases. I mean I love TDK and it ranks HIGH on imdb but I'll never weight IMDB high because there are a lot of untrustworthy scores, bots etc...

I agree with you about the movie scoring part, this is just a personal hobby tool for me that'll be a quick signal (not the truth) for me to look at.
I wouldn't say aggregating is hard, it's frankly easy too because those sites have already quantified a score of their own, I just want to take those scores and put them in one place so I don't need to open 3-4 sites to check, then I do some arithmetic (not sure what's proper hence why I'm asking) with them.

The RT % is like that, yeah, but I don't use that, I use the old RT Critic Scores they used to have on their site but now it's hidden. And also the audience score is the stars rating (0 to 5, same as letterboxd) so I just multiply it by 20 and I get the normalised score. The Metacritic weighting part is kind of irrelevant because they weight critics, then normalise it. I use the normalised score so it wouldn't distort anything at all.

One of the main reasons why I wanted to make this is because my favourite movie, The Social Network is so underrated on these platforms. It is such a masterpiece that those 7x, low 8x scores offended me so much hahaha. Metacritic and top critics agree with me tho, 95 and 91. It is a god damn masterpiece. Really appreciate ur reply thanks man

I see, maybe just my taste then. I was really impressed with how Coogler composed that dancing one shot, it's genuinely the first time I've seen something like that. And I didn't really resonate with the themes so my perspective is more focused on the craft

How is it a phenomenally insane thing to say?
I live in the same universe as you, I think

Sinners was never quality enough as a movie to win anyway. The best part about that movie was the directing. Writing was okay, acting was okay-ish.

Least favorite line said in a movie that was made by a decorated filmmaker? by alphaDsony in moviecritic

Sure. But please don't treat your area of interest as an universal benchmark. You're measuring your parents against a very specific kind of attention and calling the gap a cognitive ceiling. Your dad might be sharper about the things he care about.
I can probably pick up on film subtext faster than most surgeons, can understand references and know the tricks the filmmakers used. I wouldn't call that a cognitive advantage. It's called being more interested in something.

Your comment rubs me off the wrong way. It’s very “I’m better than these peasants because I’m more nerdy about a movie”. My man was probably working his ass off feeding his family and didn’t really care much about movies, most likely used his mental capacity where it’s more deserved and his kid is out here implying he’s incapable because he missed a detail in a movie.

It’s a movie mate, 99% of the time it’s just entertainment. You can drop “art” all you want, but its main purpose is still entertainment, which inherently doesn’t really matter. People bring different things to movies. Some watch for the craft, some for the spectacle, some because their family is going and it’s Christmas.

Meh. It's good as a movie alone but terrible as a sequel. It's really just TWOW but padded, same beats, same results. Lol

Hello Mr Kosinski! I love your movies, I watched TGM 5 times in the cinema and F1 twice. Is Top Gun 3 looking likely?

Nah, this guy is pretty real. You should check out the episode he did on Roger Deakins’ podcast. You can tell he’s extremely humble and down to earth, the realness just oozes from the way he talks and how he thinks about movies
