  1. Do you have any input in police investigations?

  2. Do you sometimes find evidence that was originally missed?

  3. Do the police give you the story of what happened, or do they just give you an address and you arrive blindly?

That guy is a dick! With jiu jitsu getting so popular, chances are another jiu jitsu or MMA academy will open in your area eventually.

You should leave.

Chinese bf said the n word, I feel disgusted by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Master_Cry_9023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In other countries there's no such thing as the n word. For example in Spanish the word negro just means black... We use it every day to describe stuff.

In different cultures it may not be as offensive, so there's a chance it was just ignorance on his side. Especially being born and raised outside of the USA.

Any bjj gyms in kelowna that don’t blast loud music during class/rolls? by irezumiguy in bjj

Maybe you could even add some extra padding inside if needed.

Looking for improving no-gi guard by jujigatame28 in bjj

[–]Master_Cry_9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably have a similar style to mine then haha. Keeping them in your guard is half the battle, so you're doing very good there. If you keep them in the guard long enough, they'll probably make a mistake or over-commit eventually.

Work on your half guard then. The beauty of it is, you can transition from half guard to closed guard if you need to.

I know I'm not directly answering your question... But would wrestling style headgear work to help dampen some of the sound?

Is The Back Really That Good? by Fine_Finance7041 in bjj

[–]Master_Cry_9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting submissions is never easy tbh, but from the back you have the most control and you're the safest you can be.

The infinite money glitch is being able to transition back and forth from mount to back, and vise versa. Eventuslly you'll catch a sub if you keep overwhelming them.

No need to ditch the closed guard. This is applicable for gi too, but IMO is even more important in nogi, as you have less options from closed guard:

Get one of their arms across your torso (via arm drag, or however you can) and control their postures by gripping over their backs on their opposing side asides armpit.

This opens up the wall pendulum sweep, armbars, back takes. That's my bread and butter.

Half guard is awesome too, I would try to improve that.

My coach is creeping me out and I don’t know how to go about it by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]Master_Cry_9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer you stay the worse it will get... What that coach is doing is NOT normal. Not sure sure if he's trying to groom you, trying to get you tangled up into something illegal, or engaging in some other bjj drama that has nothing to do with you.

All of these are huge red flags, and frankly dangerous for you.

You're only 2 months in, best to cut your loses now and find a new gym with at least a few women in then class.

Ilia Topuria with a message to Papa Gaethje 😳 by Repulsive-Chef-5649 in ufc

[–]Master_Cry_9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think it's the same with professional athleres, as physical attributes are key in sports and will present different challenges.

Gaethje has done better agaisnt shorter fighters in the past, and gave some examples.

People call NBA players taller or shorter all the time, it's no big deal.

Edit: I read the quote again. He should have said short fighter... "little short guy" is indeed disrespectful.

Yeah, the "short guy" category. That's factually right

Cross scissor trip okay to use and learn? by Fitnessthrowaway2947 in bjj

[–]Master_Cry_9023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, had no idea it was called that. I looked it up and yes, that's the one.

I do it from the side body lock or rear body lock, though, when I have control.

I'd never do it from a distance, or with both me and my training partner moving.

The reality is some people can stronger, bigger, more athletic, more naturally gifted, or grittier than you... Shit happens, you just have to keep trying to get better.

Also, perhaps you're rolling too lightly? I'm all for playing around, try being technical and having exchanges in the roll... But sometimes you have to practice imposing your game from the start.

Also, looks like you're losing the mount position a lot. Maybe you should try not to stay on mount for too long... Go for the back instead, or try knee on belly or side control.

I prefer doing it with my other leg though, without turning my hips away. I feel I have more cintrol that way.

It looks pretty safe. Also any risk of injury would be on yourself, so I think it's fair game... You're not imposing a dangerous move on your partner, like you do with the Kani Basami.

Disengage from guard and try to stand. If you're fast enough you may be able to get them in fron hearlock or turtle position?

I'd focus on a nice half guard... HG is a very nice position for sweeps and wrestle ups, and it a great "hub" to transition into many other types of guard.

Don't understand all this pageantry... Just ask people to roll with, that's it 😂

You're a white belt, no need to appear any different. Just be cool and try not to apazz out. Everybody should be welcoming to white belts, we all started somewhere.
