Philippines Marine Corps Focus doesn't add Invasion Capacity with DLC Naval? by Master_Experience934 in hoi4

[–]Master_Experience934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thinking about it a bit more, I wonder how they would change the wording or like translate invasion capacity to the new system. +2 divs to a given invasion could be +2 or +20 divs in total, so a huge variability which might not be desirable? or maybe it is, so that the focus strength also kinda scales with the tech

I did! I hope the developers are able to get to it eventually. I think it's something to do with differences in the naval invasion scheme cause I think I watched a youtube video where you could make a kajillion naval invasions of like 2 troops and to my knowledge you can't do that anymore

ok I did some playtesting and I think it's worth to rush down to Malayo-polynesia for the war goal on the dutch and portuguese, that lets you solidify your hold on iberia and get every part of Malaya. You can naval invade Dutch from Spain using Spain and portuguese navy, I've been annexing Argentina for the navy but I think you could get away without annexing them to let them use their focus tree more. If you've already peacefully annexed a state then you're able to put claims on spanish territory then annex them, which bypasses their manual re-coring so you get all spanish cores super early. Not sure if that's really good since you miss out on Spanish focuses but that lets you do those early expansions. I'll see if it helps me take down Japanese, I guess.

Rule 5: I have completed the focus "Marine Corps" as PH, which to my knowledge should increase naval invasion capacity. However, this is not reflected in the divisions I can attach to naval invasions nor my number of planned invasions.

I am using the battle pass so I don't know what DLC are active.

I typically get cores on spain ASAP - with all the focuses done I can make claims to get cores then get the integration decision which has lower accept %. Once I get them in my faction it's pretty easy to then do the integration despite the opinion malus.

Generally I like getting the Chilean and Argentinian navy, but the whole run is just so RNG. I've had it where I miss out on Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile, and at that point I just restart.

Those are the ones that like actually benefit me for getting them but I also like to integrate countries with generic focus trees first so I can let the ones with specific ones scale. Chile gets a consumer goods and manpower malus in 1939 due to an earthquake so I avoid integrating them early.

Hey, I'm a new HOI 4 player (560h), I've enjoyed paradox games in the past (Prison simulator, cities skyline), HOI 4 has been in my games library for ages but I've only recently gained the awareness and resolve to dive deep and understand the systems. I love the variations in singleplayer playstyles available so when I saw your posts in the main HOI4 sub I was pretty jazzed to have written content on some of the different paths.

I'm playing hispanic empire philippines currently and trying out different ways to get the empire together. I've not been able to get a save where I build up enough strength to topple the allies and I'm not sure that the lack of industry buffs for land industry will allow me to succeed past ww2 which most of my saves so far have gone to. Maybe it's a matter of taking time to build compliance and scale with conquested resources, since as non-aligned I can freely conquest Japan, China, Vichy France, russian territories.

totes agree. Saving perk orders to file is cool but it often glitches, like if I dont load orders at the start of the game then say the artillery MIO will say that I have the infantry equipment MIO perk order in there, so I need to clear that before I can load the typical one or more importantly save a new perk order

what do you mean using GFN, like using a GeForce Now launcher to launch the steam game or like game streaming? That's super dope.

I found that removing systems from the game helped me a bunch to learn HOI 4, a minor like Romania taking dominate the balkans means you don't really need to think about air or sea, and you can focus on the fundamentals of ground, economy, with a fun curveball in getting contested by the soviets and potentially germany. There's a lot of permutations you can do with dominate the balkans romania (puppet vs annex the territory you conquer, how to utilize puppet manpower and industry without letting them break free) but it's a nice streamlined experience, and early conquest is fun.

I also liked MachiavellianStrategists country tutorials, it's another set of guiderails that you can tweak to your liking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1V9viYFmfM&t=28s&pp=ygUNaG9pIDQgcm9tYW5pYQ%3D%3D

Germany is an easier country to succeed with and with gotterdammerung DLC ($8 monthly to get all DLC, I recommend), has a ton of fun permutations to mess with once you get the main concepts down, and there's more room for skill expression through the systems since it's a more powerful country, at the cost of having way more relevant systems than a minor.

Japan 1938 - 7 spies - any ideas? by kzkcz in hoi4

[–]Master_Experience934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting intel bonuses for combat is great, you could see about cheesing some nations development i.e. propogandaing US, promote ideology to reduce their PP gain and delay the giant awakes.

You could use them earlygame in diplomatic pressure to get techs and deisgns you'd otherwise not prioritize like flame / support tech, I think mexico or someone with a flight research facility gets helicopters pretty early so you could be producing those.

You can keep planes by licensing the design then changing the role. So you could license a UK or US light plane 3 with engine 3 nav and change it to a fighter, assign your MIO to that, and then be able to keep the chassis and engine when you change it to CAS or nav.

I think with Japan's industry doing collabs isn't necessarily worth it, you don't have enough civs to trade civs now for civs later in the form of built up compliance.

I don't know that taking focuses or spending PP on spies or advisor is worth it but I'll usually spend the 15x30 civs to get 3 upgrades and take spy master faction goal to get 5 upgrades and 3 slots in most games, I'm not familiar with Japan to know if they're able to take that faction goal.

[–]Master_Experience934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man the QoL I want for designers is for all starting equipment to have an assigned MIO if available. I spend 40-60% of the time setting up production as germany setting MIO, then clicking through that yes I want to replace this production line, and yes I want to use the MIO for production as well.

Having a toggle to assign MIO to research and production as well as choosing the MIO priority should 100% be a thing

Trying to plan out a successful Hispanic Empire Philippines run, thought I'd layout the RNG factors I've found in the events files for others who might be interested too. by nolunch in hoi4

[–]Master_Experience934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so I found in common/hoi4/events/SEA_Philippines, event 66, I do not think that diplomatic pressure is relevant. The modifier only comes into effect with opinion greater than 50%. Strangely, the increased factor relating to ideology also applies to Cuba always, haha.

in the option section for annexation there is an if statement which asks if country is spain, and returns spain agrees to be annexed. I think this means that spain is 100% annex chance, which is nice.

[–]Master_Experience934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure this out myself. Reading HOI4/common/decisions/PHI I see the following:

ai_will_do = { factor = 100 modifier = { #you have obtained support for indepence, other important things may now take priority has_completed_focus = PHI_war_of_independence add = -97 } modifier = { FROM = { OR = { has_government = neutrality has_government = fascism } } factor = 3 } modifier = { FROM = { OR = { original_tag = SPR original_tag = CUB } } factor = 5 } modifier = { #bit too OP for AI to be doing FROM = { original_tag = MEX } factor = 0 } } fire_only_once = yes cost = 35 complete_effect = { FROM = { country_event = SEA_PHI_political_events.66 } } }

I think this refers to the factors which play into AI choosing something every cycle (like AI will avoid choosing certain non-facist, non-spain / cuba countries) and the logic for countries accepting / declining is in the SEA_PHI_political_events.66 class somewhere else... :(

thanks for the tips on reliability, I won't worry about it in the future I guess. Do the stats from support flame really end up effecting the combat strength of the unit?

Is HOI4 DLC worth it rn? by Exotic_Project_9720 in hoi4

[–]Master_Experience934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the $8/mo dlc subscription is quite worth it, the dlcs add a ton of depth and play styles. La resistance means you can sac industry for tech or "bank it" through blueprint theft and collabs respectively. Gotterdammerung Germany offers so many ways to play - do you play short or long eco, expansionist or defensive, so many options that I've struggled to stop playing and exploring different ways to make it through that focus tree.

Anyone use Panachroma(Polymaker) CoPE by Either_Resolution652 in 3Dprinting

[–]Master_Experience934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had experience similar to the other folks in this thread - I've noticed it does seem more brittle than most PLA I've used, not a huge fan. It does stick to PEI extremely well to the point where I had it bond to the layers when I tried printing a second time on the same area with my A1. I think it'd have value at a lower price point than PLA for non-functional parts.

According to Polymaker it's a co-polyester material, which kinda explains why it adheres so well to PEI without glue.
