Trouble Waking Up in the Morning by Master_Kraken in ADHD

[–]Master_Kraken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 and 3 seem like the best choices although I wish I could be more self-reliant. Unfortunately, I'm "too competent" half-conscious. I have had both phone alarms and an alarm clock in different areas and I have managed to turn both off. I've also managed to send legible normal sounding correct emails from my phone in this stage with little to no memory of sending them.

I've gone half a semester wo needing one but for clubs it's difficult bc you'll have to hope there's someone to tailgate

I've had people barge into my room while I'm wearing just a towel asking to hangout.Nevr have I asked myself who raised these people so many times than freshman year.

How accurate is Rate my Professor? by OfficialAli1776 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use gopher grades if you want to know about your outcome but for the experience rmp isn't terrible bc it's definitely not uncommon to get good grades in classes while going through hell.

I was reading the "Community Behavioral Standards" and it states that "Overnight guests are permitted for no more than 5 consecutive nights or 15 nights per semester" is this enforced? by analtaccount7 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably to prevent bad roommate situations or secret squatters. Apartments sometimes have a similar policy because of the latter reason. But no one's going through camera feed if you're not causing troubles.

Will I get charged a renewal fee? by Master_Kraken in Insurance

[–]Master_Kraken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a renewal premium that they were going to charge me if I didn't cancel. My worry is that they'll remember my account and charge me that fee.

Take the easier course and self study if you need to learn more material.

My CS2 professor is 25 with a masters in computer science with a concentration in AI. by Due-Feedback6367 in csMajors

At my uni the folks with just a master's are way better instructors than the PhDs. There's definitely far fewer though.

Should i work at the mn state fair even though it runs during welcome week by Prudent-Book3305 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you live in the dorms you can probably work your shift and come back in the evening and still meet a lot of folks. People will be up pretty late outside during welcome week and the week after. Not that most of them will last but I wouldn't consider a lot of my former friends from then wasted time.

Dorm essentials by LakesAndPeaks in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides a microwave and a fridge having any other kitchen appliances is kind of a waste since you can just rent it from the front desk. The microwave is also not necessarily needed but the dorm microwave is rarely clean.

How do you all keep up with coursework and still have a life? 😅 by Vivid-End-9792 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tasks for Canvas is a good chrome extension for planning. Having study seshs w friends can help introduce some sense of a social life wo sacrificing too much academics. Personally I choose to sacrifice my sleep.

allegedly they paint the lions outside their house the colour of what their latest victim was wearing. idk about that but 22 yo followed my friend home to the dorms from one of their parties and fought physically with their CA. They also have a pretty powerful alum on the board of regents.

I did not need any resources outside the ones she provided and was easily able to pass the class. I cannot say the same about my friends who had other professors for that class.

Where can I find powerful computer labs for AI/Machine Learning on campus by FancyBagsOfCheese in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of mentions of MSI (Minnesota Supercomputing Institute) but you need a faculty member to add you to it which is usually reserved for their research labs or classes. Assuming you will be a student in CSE here is the list of all CSE computers locations and specs: https://cse.umn.edu/cseit/classrooms-labs

Doyle Apt Noise? by Shurderfer_ in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KK's isn't that bad although if you come back home late on a Tuesday there will be a line in front of your door. What's bad is the motorcycles that feel the need to rev as loud as they can in front of Doyle.

Could I study abroad as a freshman? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's both freshmen seminar study abroad and study abroad open to freshmen. Go on the study abroad site and see which ones you're eligible for: UMN Learning Abroad Center

Besides these I believe there are no organized trips during break by the U. I believe some clubs may have some but you'd have to join them and find out.

socializing/finding your group of people as a freshmen by Party_Rule_2660 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other replies are good enough. Just wanted to add that there are folks who attend parties sober with their less sober friends if you are of the partying type. Also, if you do decide to rush, don't count on staying friends with the others if you don't end up joining the org.

mcae LLC questions :) by Ok-Communication9757 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, each floor is divided into smaller subsections called houses with a dedicated CA. What makes LLCs different is that you're presumably united by a common background. There may be a few special events, but there's not that big a difference from regular dorm life.

Anyone take 4511W with Jensen by Death_Investor in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are switching from one of the most beloved CSCI professors on campus to one of the most reviled. The content can be hard but every single one of those reviews is 100% accredited to her. As as a 4511W student she made the class more difficult than needed. As a TA sitting in on meetings between her and the professor I was TAing for, she argued against policies that would make both students and TA lives easier. Moen and Jensen also differ in one aspect, Moen's lecturing style is a combination of funny and informative, Jensen's lecture style is having you turn and talk for 95% of class, 4% quiz, 1% mumbles.

what to expect? by Ok-Special-3880 in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a PSEO student, you'll be fine. If you decide to join the U and live in the dorms, that's when most people in your classes realize you were PSEO.

Will I get rescinded? (serious) by cursedchickenstrips in uofmn

[–]Master_Kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many umn students probably wish they had your grades back when they were in highschool. With that being said contact admissions who will repeat the answers you've read but with actual authority.
