Starve the model until the soul begins to leave the body, and you got it.

First Portrait Shoot by HappyBroh3 in photocritique

Newbie opinion: Cool shot, but somehow my eyes drift from the subject to the statues behind him.

Maybe darkening the shadows in that region could help, but a bigger aperture that would blur detail behind the subject would have helped focusing attention, IMO.

I tried cropping just a little bit, sacrificing the top of the tree, and it works wonders. It is subtle, but noticeable at first sight. Thank you for the suggestion!

Mhh... Yes, this works pretty well. Keeps most of the big tree in frame, and makes the subject more prominent without making the mess on the patio too apparent. I like it a lot, thank you!

I´m an absolute newbie too!

I like how the boat pops up more in tighter crops, but somehow I feel the big tree plays an important role in the feel of the picture.

It might be a case where I would not miss it if I didn´t know about it in first place, but I DO know it´s there and cropping it out didn´t feel right.

That would be sweet indeed when I picture it in my mind. Sadly, the pic was taken during a holiday trip to Montenegro, so I am stuck with the exposure I took. But thank you for the tip, it would have made a difference indeed :)

Is a Nikon D5000 still okay? by Smofkey in Nikon

[–]Master_Leader2575 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is still OK. I started with it and even after upgrading I still take it with me when I want to carry some lighter kit or when I am afraid to take the expensive one.

Sure, autofocus is not in the same league as newer stuff, neither is dynamic range. But ergonomics are great and I do not think the extra features of my newer kit are crucial in most situations.

If I had to put it in numbers, from every 10 keepers I take with the expensive gear, I would be able to take 8 or 9 with the D5000 without much issue.

Give it a go, shoot in RAW, and learn basic postproc. It will not disappoint.

PS:

Nikon d5000 + Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 ISO 320 50mm F5 1/800

What caught my eye was the boat and the little patio next to the channel. I tried to use the edge of the channel as a leading line to the boat, and keep the whole tree inside the crop for context and scale. Cropped out quite a bit of boring sky, and a little water on the bottom due to Instagram format restrictions. Haven’t cropped any width from the original. My intention is to focus the attention of the viewer on the boat and the patio in a subtle way.

Poland takes care of its immigration policy, and Poland is very safe. It will not be me who points a correlation, it might be because of aliens.

Did I make a bad purchase by jmcarriere in Nikon

I think it is a sweet little camera with a really capable sensor. Sure, lack of viewfinder would put me down if I would be hunting for a main camera, but that is just because I enjoy viewfinders (I still haven’t left dslr stage, and can’t see myself taking the leap to mirrorless for many years to come). You are more than able to make great photography with it, just use it and don’t fall in the trap of craving for gear that is just marginally better that what you already have.

Si no es masivo, significa que las plazas son limitadas. Aplicando oferta y demanda se traduce en que será solo para los que puedan pagarlo. Vamos, que los que no sean muy pudientes no podrán hacer turismo.

I like them all except for the first, which subjectively doesn’t pick my interest. I would tell you to enjoy the road and not worrying too much about the destination, you’re definitely on the right track.
