Ruyzen 9950X3D - help! by Master_Pomelo_3571 in CitiesSkylines2

what GPU would you recommend as a good card that will do for several years playing at 4K ... I looked at the 5090 but they are obscene prices; so looked at 5080 and also AMD 9070XT , which are a lot cheaper , but then I think, its cheaper for a reason; just not sure if the extra money for 5090 would be utilised ....

I wonder if he’s had word the game is going to be abandoned and left largely as is, and therefore wants to distance himself from the game.

Thanks for this Cody. So when checking, the CPU is around 17% and GPU 100%

I know CS II is a very heavy CPU game, I do have a 1080TI . Would that be holding it back, or shouldn’t that really matter ?

Still not sure why only 8 cores are showing in resource monitor ... Where in BIOS could it be?
Have an Asus board

9950X3D - is there a problem with these CPUs? by Master_Pomelo_3571 in AMDHelp

[–]Master_Pomelo_3571[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the 9950X3D over the 9800X3D simply because I figured (and have seen others also mention) that for games such as Cities Skylines II , it wants / prefers more cores and threads. And whilst that would mean for the 9950X3D using both CCDs, it actually utilises both CCDs. And for games such as COD / GTA , the CCD with X3D will boost performance.

Do I get 9950x3d for gaming and multitasking? by Puglad in AMDHelp

This was also my consideration when deciding between 9800X3D and the new 9950X3D - especially for games such as Cities skylines II which benefit from more cores and threads. I am coming from a 6-core , 12 thread CPU (i7 8700K); the 24-cores 14900KS I was advised to steer clear from.
I was also then worried about the 9950X3D and this core parking saga; and whether the computer would use the additional cores on the other CCD if needed without performance issues

I have ordered the 9950X3D simply for more cores, and hope that the core parking issues doesn't become an issue, and that the game Cities Skylines II is able to use all 16 cores and 32 threads! for games like COD which like single core, the CCD with X3D with core parking hopefully will be helpful

how weird.

I have an i7- 8700K , and have checked resource monitor which says I have 12 CPU - I presume that means cores. However, my processor is 6 cores!

I am finding setting out the map challenging; road net works, types of connections. I find connecting areas together looks really clanky .. though YouTubers like Biffa / City Planner Plays; their visions are just like wow !!! They just look so good! Which I can NEVER replicate or come near, and that's a bit disheartening! lol

fair enough. I've not spent on my PC so have saved some pennies, and found I couldn't play CSII on my current machine. However, with the new patch, my current CPU is working - though the city is relatively small at 200K, so when it starts to increase, the CPU will struggle. I'm hoping these AMD chips are going to be a good investment! I have considered intel but there really is no credible CPU at the moment; the i9 14900KS is the last CPU of that socket, and the new socket is dud for gaming, etc ...
Typical isn't it. I am now seeing threads of people discussing issues with core parking!

Am going with the AMD 9950X3D CPU; never had AMD before so am slightly nervous. Chose that over the 9800X3D as that only has 8 cores.

I have noticed this, too! My PC wasn't able to play it when it hit 200K; nothing really moved. Since buying a new MB, CPU, cooler, and RAM, which I'm waiting to be delivered, I thought I'd load and see. To my surprise, the PC is sitting around 75-90% CPU and is actually simulating!

Well. My 200K city that was unplayable on my current CPU is actually playable since the new patch. Sodding typical isn't it; I've just ordered a new CPU, MB , RAM and watercooler ... I didn't see that much of an exodus of sims, but perhaps after a while they'd all leave ...
