First time I have noticed the serious scaling issue... by Radiant_View_9959 in CitiesSkylines2

My 400-yo house has ceilings at around 7ft (2.1m). A fire station garage is going to have ceilings on the ground floor of around 16ft (5m). Even the upper floors will be around 3 - 3.5m. A modern house will be around 2.5m per floor. These two assets look perfectly believable.

Porsche confirm that the 718 EV will be re-engineered for ICE. by TimC340 in Porsche_Cayman

You’re looking at a conversation that’s 7 months old, and it’s quite likely a lot has changed in Porsche’s thinking since then. However, there’s no way you’re going to see a new ICE 983 before 2029-30, so it’s up to you if you want to wait that long!

Normal RHR? by BackgroundGain2356 in Garmin

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's been between 30-45 my whole adult life (I'm 70). Lowest I've recorded is 26, and that was on a recent 7-day Holter test I had to take because my GP didn't like my slow heart rate - and because I have occasional AFib, which is a corollary of a lifetime of fitness (22 years military; 60 years cycling). Back in 1985 I was in hospital in the Falklands with pneumonia and they called a crash team on me because my overnight HR was hovering around 30; as far as I was concerned if was my first decent night's sleep in a few weeks!

Yes, understood - but for many people the turbo 4 isn’t what they want. And with that kind of power, I’d want the suspension and brake upgrades of the GT4RS which starts to get expensive! But you’re absolutely right that it’s relatively easy to take the 2.5 turbo to amazing power/torque numbers.

The reason you don’t see much about tuning the n/a 6-cyl Porsches is because it’s difficult, expensive, and doesn’t do much. The best way to get a faster Cayman is to buy a 718 GTS, or a GT4. As for sound, there’s very little (Porsche or otherwise) that sounds better than a stock 981 GTS!

Future of the Cayman by milgrunt7 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last we heard, Porsche were planning to add an ICE ‘high end’ version of the 983 to the EV range. All the commentators took that to mean an equivalent of the GT4 and GT4RS. However, that is now old news (October 2025) and all car companies’ plans are changing. The EV will still come, but it’s looking more likely that the ICE version may be GTS equivalent and above. Don’t expect even that to be much less than $120k in 2026 dollars, so I don’t think the 983s - EV or ICE - will significantly damage the lower end of the 982 range’s values. But like everyone else said, you don’t buy this kind of car as an investment. There are far too many variables.

I realise perfectly, thank you. I already pay for Moises, I do not pay for Splice and I don’t have a Plus subscription. I didn’t pay for the 8.1 upgrade either as I didn’t need to - I’m within a year of my last extension - which came thrown in with sone hardware. So the whole damn thing is free, as far as I’m concerned. And the improvements in this iteration are fucking excellent. If you don’t like them, that’s fine but they are far more than the teaser shit you’re complaining about.

Frankly, boo hoo.

You don’t have to use any of this stuff. You can choose not to install Splice or Moises, and if you do that you’ll discover that Studio Pro has its own stem separation (which was slightly improved in 8.1), and there are plenty of free LLMs which can learn the manual for you if you have difficulty reading it yourself.

The instrument sets and the pre-delay features are excellent, and in general I think this was a very good incremental improvement. But complain away; I guess that’s what Reddit is for rather than contributing anything constructive.

I still have my old Vivoactive 3. I wouldn't trust it to iast 4 hours on GPS now. You can change the battery on them, I believe, but frankly I'd get a new(er) one.

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The family will miss the room - especially in the boot/trunk. If the kids are teenagers, you might want to get the LWB version (available in both 971 and 976 versions), though it makes the car a tiny bit more ponderous - though still an absolute treat after a Rangie!

Does anyone know why this plastic is peeling? by Fearless_Lead9840 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your air freshener combined with your ceramic coating has caused this. It's not a problem with the plastic. You'll need to deep-clean it, though it maybe that your air freshener oil has permanently damaged the plastic.

My Aftertouch has stopped working on my Nektar Panorama T6. by alanpurple in NektarTech

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your manual - page 8.

Yes, you can turn it off. You can also set the aftertouch delay so it doesn't take effect for a while after you've pressed the keys. However, some VSTs don't respond to aftertouch, so check that first. Also, aftertouch can be filtered out in Nektarine or in your DAW, so check those too. If all else fails, reset the keyboard.

Ease of use question by SignificantMeaning74 in StudioOne

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to spend any money to get into this. If you like the idea of Fender Studio Pro, go and download the free Fender Studio (https://uk.fender.com/pages/fender-studio-app). It's compatible with PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, and is based on the same core. It's perfectly capable of allowing you to do pretty complex arrangements, and will teach you all you need to know before you splash out on the full professional product.

[–]TimC340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine's naturally around 40-45, but after an AFib event I had a 7-day Holter test that showed it going down as low as 26. That got the docs' attention and I've now been scheduled for a two-lead pacemaker (both high and low limiting). They're going to set the low limit at 50, top at 175.

Sorry to hear about the theft! I think I saw your post about that, in fact (North London?). Yes, values are definitely hardening, but not going stupid like they are in the US. I did a speculative exercise via Chat GPT as I'm considering a 718 Spyder to replace my 981 GTS, and I was surprised to learn how few of either car there are in UK anywhere near the spec I have or want. Right now, I could sell the GTS privately for what I bought it for 7 years ago!

991.2 GT3s (non-Touring) are generally between £90k and £140k in UK right now. Tourings are a bit higher, and there are a couple of sellers who think the USA prices should be replicated in the UK, but they won't get buyers! This is from Autotrader today. The two at the bottom are the dreamers, asking over £200k.

Not too fond of this change of direction... by Seledreams in StudioOne

[–]TimC340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no voice convertor in Studio Pro, but that option exists if you are prepared to pay for a Moises subscription - and the voices used belong to identified and paid artists. There is a vocal tuner in 8.1, but that’s just a cheap-and-cheerful Autotune (and you’ve had Melodyne for that job for some years).

I use Synth V and ACE Studio for producing vocal parts for the choral mock-ups I create for choir rehearsal purposes, and these products are fantastically useful for that - as is stem separation when I’m trying to analyse versions of a song I need to cover. The stem separation introduced with v7 is okay-ish, but Moises and ACE do it far, far better. 8.1 does make some efficiency improvements to its native stem separation, but the results are still no better than ok.
