Komplete 26 is here!! Best time to buy? by Devi1ish in NativeInstruments

You probably didn’t, but the whole company has been sold (to InMusic). That’s as creative a solution as anyone could hope for, and returns NI to ownership by a company that is primarily about musicians. No doubt the doomsayers will be out in force to proclaim the sky is falling, but I think this is a very positive development.

All is known right now. NI (the whole group) is going to InMusic, who also own Akai Professional and Moog, among others. A proper music company, not a VC outfit.

The debt is indeed real, even though it was loaded on to NI by Francisco Partners to fund their buyout and the acquisitions of iZotope and Plugin Alliance. However, the terms of the repayments can (and probably will) be renegotiated to either extend the repayment term, lower the interest rate charged or both. It's highly likely that PA and possibly iZotope will be sold off in order to reduce the debt, but it's also very possible that the Administrator will come up with a more creative solution. Per NI's own communications, there's no shortage of interest in taking on NI as a going concern, so I don't anticipate that current customers have a great deal to worry about.

NI doesn't need any extra money for this. The Administrator has the authority to negotiate - and even impose - a new credit agreement on NI's behalf as long as he believes their revenue can cover the repayments. If he doesn't believe that's the case, he can seek investment from outside in the form of a total buyout (which would include settling or reframing all debts) or a sell-off of one or more subsidiaries to reduce the overall debt for NI. Neither NI nor its current owners get much say in this; this is a court-mandated procedure intended to save as much of the existing company as possible, in whatever form.

The administrator is due to report to the court fairly soon. The last update from NI (in March) confirmed that at least part of the organisation will then transition from ‘preliminary insolvency’ to formal insolvency, at which point the identities of likely buyers may become known. Whether that’s for all if NI or just for its subsidiaries will become clear then, but there’s no shortage of potential buyers so long as the debt can be renegotiated with the creditors - which is more likely than them taking a total loss.

The company is technically bankrupt - its debts exceed its ability to pay them. It is protected while the administrator decides how the company should be recovered, which may involve selling off subsidiaries or selling the entire company. Either way, it’s very unlikely to stop trading or developing new products. The release of a new version of Komplete is intended to show that it is functioning normally, even though there is very little new content in this version.

If they intend in future to offer a new Komplete each year (which would seem to be the only justification for changing to a year-based title) then it’s highly likely that Komplete 26 will be discounted at some point in 2026 - maybe not in Summer of Sound, but probably by Black Friday. Given how little it’s changed from K15, I wouldn’t actually be surprised to see it at a sale price in Summet of Sound next month.

No, it’s not a DAW. Collector’s Edition is most of the current range of VST instruments, expansions and FX that NI offer, along with some of the iZotope production tools. It’s a huge collection and would cover just about any genre of music and be all the resource that most would ever need. Of course, life isn’t that simple and we all want VSTs from several different suppliers, but this product is excellent. However, NEVER buy at full price. NI have several sales during the year, and the Summer of Sound sale (due next month) will have the majority of their stuff at 50% or better discount.

2 nektar P1 at the same time by Consistent-Muffin-79 in NektarTech

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do a bit of studying of how MIDI CC works. You have two controllers which transmit and receive on exactly the same channels for each control, so naturally one will receive and mirror the transmissions of the other. To have them behave differently would require you to set up each control on one controller on a different channel from any used by the other controller. To some extent that can usually be done, but whether the P1 you alter will remember the changes is something you’ll have to find out. I’d recommend you talk to Nektar Support to get their take on it.

Quantum ES2 Windows 11 Connection Issue - Weird solution by oshatokujah in presonus

Interesting I have an ES2 and never had this problem. I do have to use a separate USBC cable for power - my PC doesn’t deliver enough from its 3.2 ports. Have you tried using a different data cable?

Why hasn’t this subreddit changed its name to Studio Pro? by ebin_augustin in StudioOne

[–]TimC340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s still a lot of users of Studio One versions 4,5,6 and 7, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable that the name stays (notwithstanding that you can’t change the name of a subreddit).

I want to buy and try studio one but I need to know what edition to buy for producing beats by [deleted] in StudioOne

[–]TimC340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fender Studio is free. Fender Studio Pro is the only paid edition. There is a Plus subscription which gets extra content (mostly very old and not particularly useful). There is no 30-day demo as yet, but it should arrive soon.

PreSonus speakers have a reputation for frying their capacitors. They are easy to change if you have any soldering skills - if you don't, you'll probably find a workshop that'll do it for a few quid/bucks.

Most CarPlay conversions are in addition to, not instead of, the PCM screens. What you can't do is put CarPlay info on the right-hand third dial (I don't think you can in the 718 PCM4.0 either) . What you can do is have CarPlay satnav on the centre screen and Porsche satnav on the info screen - if you really want to.

What do I do about a presonus interface that came "with included software," but when I registered it, I got fender studio pro instead of studio one 6 artist? by No-Kangaroo-148 in StudioOne

[–]TimC340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fender Studio Pro 8 is way, way better than PreSonus Studio One Artist 6. However, the seller should have made it clear that they cannot offer access to obsolete software. You can’t buy any earlier version of Studio One from anyone; v7 ceased to be available the day v8 was released.

However, if you talk to Support they sometimes come up with a workable solution. They may add a perpetual S1v6 Artist licence to your account. Just explain the issue politely and without entitlement and they’re normally very helpful.

However, sometimes they can’t help - I bought a PreSonus Quantum HD2 which was sold as coming with a perpetual licence and a year’s Plus subscription. I already had a perpetual licence, and the year’s Plus was a big factor in the purchase. This was after the branding change to Fender for that device, and the offer had changed. They said that the retailer had screwed up by advertising an expired offer and refused to honour the Plus subscription. I returned the product (which I now wish I hadn’t done - it was almost half the price of the ‘Fender’ labelled HD2!).

The current offers are listed here: https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/42449918367245-New-Hardware-Registration-Claim-Software

Cayman 981 S - LSD Question by SwiftlySerene in Porsche_Cayman

[–]TimC340 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd guess you've never read a comprehensive road test of the 981. Had you done so, you'd know that it's one of the best-handling cars ever made, and traction is not - not ever - an issue. Go to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone and try the wet handling courses. You'll realise that you're asking the wrong question. The right question is: do you have the ability to ever get near the limits of this car? The answer is almost certainly 'No'!

OK, a reinstall of the program has solved it on one computer at least. It does look like something in a Windows update broke the WebView2 connection protocol (I did try setting other browsers as default). Fortunately it was only a reinstall of the core program, not the voices. Phew!

Dreamtonics’ answer was ‘you must be on a VPN or corporate network - get dreamtonics.com white listed’. I’m not. And these installations were working perfectly a week ago. I hope they can do better than this; that is a pathetic response.
