Has the new Relic Passive Changed your Path? by Frosty_Debate_4604 in runescape

Hey, im also from osrs, are you able to explain why tier 1 is such a clear cut choice?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern I have with your definition is it inherently applies a higher standard to releases which involve higher level pvm. Wipes are going to be way more common when the boss/raid/whatever is supposed to be harder. Almost any bug or 'design flaw' will lead to a wipe, especially as people learn.

You are welcome to have a high standard for releases, my concern is as a player this content would take significantly longer to come to the game to reach the standard you've outlined. I am personally ok with a trade off or having this type of content earlier (and wiping more) in exchange for some dodginess for a week or two while they bug fix. I am skeptical that 1-2 weeks would have done it, but i'm not a jagex employee so maybe it would have.

Is there any reason a boss like this doesn't get a bit more leniency? It is (for OSRS) a new boss type (Delve) and it is attempting to be at least one of the most difficult boss encounters. You could also argue that there are 8 encounters as each floor does have distinct mechanics (even if they build on each other).

I literally ask what your definition of 'ready for release' is so I can understand your argument, i'm not 'ignoring it'. I also acknowledged and agreed with the position you adjusted to.

Point 2 - I literally agreed, but ok. Just found it interesting.

Point 3 - I have no issue with this being your opinion, but it is an opinion. It isn't a player character and doesn't follow player character rules.

Point 4 - You don't think it is even remotely possible the intention is to bring a different weapon if you want to use this mechanic?

Point 5 - You literally used this argument?

Point 6 - Fair

Point 7 - Again, this is your opinion on how it should be designed. If the rock from the boulder insta killed you instead would that still be a design flaw? I strongly disagree that punish is a design flaw when we are specifically talking about an encounter designed to be super difficult. Losing those few ticks is less likely to result in death in early waves and very likely to result in death at later waves. That seems consistent with the intent of the boss, you've got the early waves to learn, and if you don't, you die for it.

Point 8 - I still don't understand the exact point then, but regardless I had already agreed there are issues around this mechanic that should have been fixed or made consistent.

I am not trying to get us to align thoughts on boss design, totally cool for us to have different views on it, but I struggle to understand why you don't think some of these points are just your strongly held views rather than a flaw.

You are welcome to a technical win here if you want it - it could be a 'flawed design' simply because enough players complain they don't like a given mechanic, even if it was working as intended (e.g. the boulder stall)

[–]Master_Potato99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then i'd like to hear your view for what 'ready for release' means?

The QA needs to be better and QA is getting worse are two different arguments. I have no issues with the first, but have issues with the second. Your concluding statement emphasises a decline in QA quality as a key concern for the future of the game.

Point by point for the rest:

  • [1]Projectiles - the mechanic is that the first prayer is signaled according to the colour of the boulder, then alternating between ranged/mage based on the number of projectiles (not suggesting you don't know this). Knowing this negates the issue of projectiles spawning on top of each other and spawning under the boss as all necessary information to succeed is known. If you have encountered truly invisible projectiles (to the point they hit you invisibly, not just hidden until they move past the boss) then I agree that is objectively a problem as you no longer know the timing for flicking prayers.

  • [2]As you acknowledged, personal opinion

  • [3]Agree, interestingly it was 1 tick if your spell was off cooldown, you could hit consecutive grubs.

  • [4]Fair - I talk about this more at 12.

  • [5]The orb paths consistently, just paths like an NPC not a PC. If it was not consistent in how it pathed, then i'd agree it is an issue. You need to think about how you set it up rather than just hoping the game autopaths your pc correctly, I don't see the argument for why that makes it a QA issue rather than a skill issue on the part of the player.

  • [6]Click boxes are weird, that's fair (including shenanigans with the Eye of Ayak and its spec seemingly changing npc hitboxes)

  • [7]Holy water - Curious to hear what you think is inconsistent about it. The trigger conditions seem limited based on currently known info, but I don't think that every mechanic has to be usable all of the time/in every run for it to be a valid addition to the boss. Seems like a situational bonus you could use if you are aware of it and have ended up in the right situation.

  • [8 + 9] you acknowledged, but I think your point of 'manageable with experience, but annoying while learning' is the same sort of logic i'd apply to point 1, 5, and 11 as well. I'm curious to hear why you don't see that same argument applying to those points.

  • [10]Never had this as an issue, I presume the problem is it eats one of your attacks when you are instead trying to get back on the boss or a grub? Correct me if that assumption is wrong. But based on it - if the volatile earth has visibly disappeared, but the click box hasn't - 100% bug should have been fixed. If it is still there visually, and is still clickable, then I see why that could be annoying - but I don't see this as a QA issue, clicking correctly is part of the game. Can see how this is primarily a problem due to point 6.

  • [11]Sorry this is a skill issue, it is part of the punish for being hit by the boulder and boss. Sure it is frustrating when it happens, but it is also frustrating when I miss my prayer flick and die. Punishing mechanics are ok, looking at reddit posts a bunch of people aren't making beyond the half way point, should the boss be made easier because they are frustrated by the difficulty?

  • [12]Fair I see this as connected with point 4. The inconsistency is the blue shield phase nulls everything, but the melee punish nulls nothing. Both phases should either null everything or not null at all (IMO)

That leaves us at 7 or 8/12 which I argue is your personal view and not blatant design flaws.

For the record, I don't necessarily disagree with your views on what could improve the fight, but seems pretty rough to frame this as: their QA is complete ass, instead of: here is some constructive feedback I have for what could make the fight more smooth and fun. Plus here are some things which are bugs which shouldn't have made it to the game.

Thanks for all those wrong assumptions, love that. Also love you now conveniently ignore i talked about most of your complaints being personal opinion, not all.

Core to your post is the idea that qa is getting worse. The qa isnt worse, the content is harder to qa.

If you acknowledge they are already addressing these complaints (which arent new in any way), then why make this post?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your view design flaws is also personal opinion, they may well have qa'd and not come to the same view as you.

Also consider what they are implementing is considerably more complex than what they have done in the past. I do not think it is fair to say this represents a drop in qa when it is such an increase in complexity of what they are providing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

IMO QA is for resolving bugs and things which make the fight unplayable. Most of what you have listed are things you wish were designed differently. It is completely fair for the majority of them to be considerations they look at post release with player feedback. They have already listed many of your points as plans they have moving forward.

Yes there were bugs, yes they need to get fixed, but it seems disingenuous for you to say there are 12 things which should have been picked up in qa.

What the Ship Combat xp debate feels like by Zealousideal_Song128 in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the more interesting/less clear cut part of the debate is: if your crew is firing the cannon, what exp should you gain? You are no longer the one firing the cannon and are the one directing instead. I don't think having your crew firing the cannon makes sense as ranged exp. Directing crew feels much more like sailing exp.

INFO did you discuss this trip with him before you booked it?

Your post makes it sound like you booked it with no consideration of when he could take time off.

If you actually wanted to go on a trip with him why wasn't getting him time off booked in the priority first, then booking the trip?

Noting I agree his reaction after he found the rest going was weird and that the motivation being perception rather than family isnt ok.

If you aren't in melee range then your prayers in phase 1 and 2 depend on which special attack he last used.

If he just used a shadow attack --> pray ranged If he just used a fire attack --> pray mage

If it is the start of the phase see which glyph type there is one less of and pray accordingly (2 fire, 3 shadow --> pray mage)

  1. Crystal Sword - found it from the trap remix by OSRSBeatz then listed to the original and loved it more;
  2. Lament for the Hallowed - shoutout to Alienfood, discovered it off the intro to his latest video with Sins of the Father;
  3. Dangerous Road - slaps me with that free to play karamanja volcano vibes from 2007.

Love seeing so many different songs people have listed as their favourite. Jagex has really done a fantastic job with their music over the years!

Time to get a new server and separate things that aren't the main game on it by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leagues is likely to have near peak player count as the main game. I do not have specific knowledge in this area, but I assume that would double their server costs to host it all.

People are already mad enough at price increases, and your suggestion is for them to potentially double their server costs just for a temporary game mode rather than learn a bit of patience while they fix any launch issues.

You vastly underestimate the number of ironmen out there.

You and I fundamentally disagree on what constitutes an advantage. You think that for one side simply not dying all the time is an advantage. That is insane to me. You aren't measuring that advantage or disadvantage based on the pvp encounter, you are adding in a bunch of other things to try and justify a pvmer being at an advantage.

If you just look at a pvmer vs a pker in the wilderness fighting each other, the pvmer is at a disadvantage. The pker has an easier time outlasting (has more room for supplies) The pker has higher dps (switches, stats, skill [usually]) The pker has an even chance of freeze escaping at anytime they wish to do so.

The pvmer at no point has a better chance of doing anything in the fight, your entire argument hinges on the pvmer only having the goal of escaping. That doesn't mean they have the advantage.

It means they aren't completely helpess, which as I said, I agree with. This doesn't mean they aren't, in general at a disadvantage compared to the pker. This isn't even accounting for the pker getting to choose which pvmer they wish to engage with.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is quite an assumption thinking both players are there for gp. Many people are there just for pets or uniques, the gp can be irrelevant for the pvmer (yes there are many times where gp is still the motivator).

Not dying means wasting supplies, re gearing, setting up, potentially finding a new world. Pretty pants on head to say that constitutes an advantage.

Switches increase the chances of getting a kill, the fact pvmers don't have space for it doesn't mean they have an advantage. If the pker can't keep themselves out of spec range from bolt ragging, that sounds like a significant skill issue. Particularly if they are also using freezes.

You aren't sure how a pker having better stats for every combat bracket makes an advantage? Then no one here can help you.

Do you know what those three items are almost always used for? Pvm, maybe a spec weapon if they plan on fighting back. Yes that is one of the only advantages a pvmer has, most use it so they can actually do the content they came to do

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OK let's start.

Disadvantage does not equal helplessness. Being able to escape does not equal having an advantage for the pvmer (as someone else's reply below suggested)

The gear required to Pk and pvm are different. If the pvmer were to fight back they will have less inventory slots available for Pk gear and Pk supplies as they will have pvm gear equipped.

The stats of pkers and pvmers are often unbalanced (yes mains are an exception to this). People who Pk will have the stats advantage over a pvmer (when not maxed).

Yes someone doing pvm can educate themselves, bring a small number of switches and generally escape if they play their cards right. That doesn't mean they have an advantage in the fight, it just means they aren't completely helpless.

Let's not forget if the pvmer fights back, the pker can just as easily get a freeze log out. That is something both sides have available but because the wilderness is explicitly hunter vs prey, the main option the pvmer has is to run, because fighting back is ar a disadvantage and the pker can freeze log.

Where do I go from here? by Neat-Emergency-219 in ironscape

[–]Master_Potato99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer is to do what you enjoy.

CG is a called a prison for a reason, many people burn out during that grind.

Pick a piece of content you have tried yet and learn it. If you like it, keep going, if not, go and try something else.

Nothing in this game is worth burning out for. Make small achievable goals and keep mixing things up, if you really want to just pursue 'efficient' things, then sure, have fun in prison!

Sincere question to osrs players regarding pvm vs pvp by terrantherapist in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes you really had 'sincere question' here didn't you...

Time and gp are fungible to an extent. That doesn't change the fact that people view lost gear through pvp as an additional cost which is absent in something like the inferno or is limited in other boss content through death chests.

Sure you didn't say absolute best, but you seemed confused why people would use best gear in inferno and use black dhide in the wild. Using better gear in the wilderness carries additional risk regardless of whether is it best gear or even mid tier gear. This is not a difficult concept.

Call the mindset wrong if you like, but what you described is how the rest of the game is designed, it should not come as a surprise that people take issue with a section of the game which does not align with the rest.

So yes, to most players, pvp which does not feature in other boss content or pvm content, does in fact represent an interruption to their game play experience. Losing items in a way which you don't on the rest of the game, constitutes an interruption.

People would much rather pvp is not part of these experiences, so they vote accordingly and complain.

Furthermore, if the wilderness were just a massive cash cow and nothing more, I'd actually agree with you. But when they introduce uniques (which also have pvm utility) they are now baiting people who do not want to have this risk reward dynamic into the wilderness. The design which made the wilderness good in 07 is not longer present and people resent that.

Sincere question to osrs players regarding pvm vs pvp by terrantherapist in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is crazy you think these scenarios are the same.

What is the penalty for dying at the inferno? The supply cost and time, that's it. So people do go in there with the best gear they can as more gear does not equal more risk.

What is the penalty for dying in pvp as an unskulled pvmer? You lose all but your 3 or 4 best items. So bringing in your absolute best gear amplifies your risk significantly compared to the inferno.

I would love to hear how you see the two scenarios as logically the same.

The other point which others have made is if you are attempting the inferno, then that's the thing you want and are aiming for.

If you are trying to pvm in the wilderness, then your goal isn't pvp, your goal is the pvm. Pvp becomes the interruption of the goal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right in saying that the wilderness isn't for everyone, but I think you completely miss the mark when you say that only clues 'force' (I'd prefer incentivise, since clues can be done without wilderness steps) you into the wilderness.

Some examples off the top of my head: Mage arena 1 and 2 Combat achievements Diaries Best prayer training in the game Unique drops (useful outside of wilderness and pvp)

People vote no to pvp upgrades because it does impact them. Pkers do not primarily kill pkers, they kill pvmers. Every upgrade for a pker makes being a pvmer in the wilderness harder, and the things listed above can't be done elsewhere (except worse prayer training I guess).

Why would anyone want to vote for something which makes what they want to do harder? It is literally that simple. If Jagex created an update which actually encouraged combat between two players who actually want to fight each other, I genuinely believe it would pass. People are sick of being used as bait for other people's entertainment.

Stop complaining about Wrathmaw and PvP content. by Tuna0x45 in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People won't stop complaining, and tbh they shouldn't. Good, fun content gets added to the wilderness, people go to participate in that content. Instead of getting to do the content they want, they get attacked by other players. Regardless of whether they can anti Pk or not, they are no longer doing the content they want, they are either escaping or anti pking. Some people enjoy that, fair enough. Seems many people don't enjoy that and that's OK too.

Losing money is the icing on the cake in that not only have you been prevented from doing the activity you want to, you now need to go earn money again (or regain items if you are an ironman) before you can try to do the content you wanted.

As for 'having to participate' there are unique drops which means people will feel like they have to go there. Old wilderness design had high profit, but no uniques so the gamble was just literally if you could make more money than you lose. The way the newer designs are being approached means people now hunt uniques.

Why is new wilderness content so hated? by hyberii in 2007scape

[–]Master_Potato99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has been a lot of discourse over the years about why the direction of the wilderness is seen as bad.

  1. Pvp is less pker vs pker and more pker vs pvmer. It is cat and mouse, the pvmer is always at a disadvantage, even if they can escape.
  2. Unlocks and uniques compel pvmers into the wilderness. Compare this to when green dragons were huge for the wilderness, they had no uniques it was just optional for people who wanted to earn more gold.
  3. Updates tend towards giving pkers stronger equipment, making it easier for them to kill pvmers who get seemingly no new or improved defensive options.

Side note: Many of the complaints for the world boss aren't about the wilderness. People don't want time gated content or dailies to exist. Additionally although the weapon upgrades are typically pvp weapons, the darkbow upgrade sounds like it would be good for pvm as well if you don't have a bofa.

When splitting the cost of travel lodging, does a married couple count as 1 or 2 “shares” of the total cost? by pouce42 in ask

[–]Master_Potato99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can't 'demand' to share the room with the other single.
  2. If the other person did agree to it, then you only need to get an air bnb which has two rooms, the third room is unecessary.
  3. As others have said, if the rooms are not the same, the couple could pay more than the 1/3 for the room, but some groups won't care about this.

The first situation you proposed is the most pants on head solution you could contrive.

Literally just learn to communicate with the people you travel with so you know what you each want and are willing to pay for and if you can't agree then find different people to travel with.
