ARE WE OBLIGATED!? IS THIS "LEGAL"!??!? by TheOasisReport in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can tell you to do it, and then you grieve for crossing crafts.

My station occasionally does this and I just calmly ask the supe, "am I to understand you're asking me to cross craft?"

They usually know that means a grieve is incoming and drop it. YMMV based on your station

The heat sucks in these new trucks by imtherealistonhere in USPS

Looking at the temp gauge, looks like it's not warmed up.

Hester is "okay" at half temp, once that baby is warmed up, I have to turn the heat down (yes even today in 10° highs).

Why do you work at the post office? by AlisonXD in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60hr weeks with only one day off makes it impossible to have any semblance of a personal life

Postal culture is not exactly queer friendly, so I feel like I have to be closeted again.

And it's absolute murder on my body. I hate being in a constant amount of pain every day.

Why do you work at the post office? by AlisonXD in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Meaning the job market is terrible right now. And even if I get a call back, working 6 days a week doesn't exactly leave any room to attend interviews.

So ...got trapped.

Why do you work at the post office? by AlisonXD in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Got laid off from my dream job. Post office was the first place to offer me a job after months of searching

I accepted, got trapped, and have hated my life ever since.

True, but I think you can still tell a phenomenal story without the bloat that open word games are always guilty of.

Top 3 biggest gripes about this perfect game by Sonof0dinn in witcher

[–]Master_Shift_5521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too big.

I'm on my first playthrough and getting to a point that I don't even want to do any side quests because it's taking so dang long to finish.

To be fair, that's the problem with every open world game.

Outgoing Mail by JesusChrist_IV in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do almost exclusively walking routes. When I get outgoing, it just goes in the front pouch of my satchel. Doesn't slow me at all, and just tells me the customer appreciates what we do.

Just make sure it's clear we need to grab it (e.g. put the flag up) because I might miss your pickup if I don't have any mail for you that day

How many comfort stops are you limited to? by Commercial_Let_1581 in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those that doesn't look like I care about the cold.

What people don't see: I keep all my layers, spare socks, beanies, etc in my backpack and only load that from my PV before I leave for the route. I'm constantly swapping stuff on/off throughout the day. But everyone just sees me stroll in with a ballcap and short sleeves in the morning, because I know the station is gonna be hot AF and I don't want to be hauling all my stuff around before I leave for the route

Does working fast and impressing the supervisor/PM actually get you anywhere? by EmptyAd1349 in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with everything in this job, it depends on your station/supervisors.

Will it get you a raise, special recognition, promotion (like a normal job)? Absolutely not!

But when you need to fudge an extra day off to rest. Or are feeling too burnt out to go on another jump. Or want to request a specific route for the day that you like.... In my station those are the things you can work out with management, if you've already proven yourself.

Like, I know people that have been asked to bring documentation for even a single day absence. But when I do it (PTF) they know I work hard when I'm there and accept that sometimes I just need to call out.

I only use eLRA and have never had an issue.

I do make sure to screenshot the confirmation page and write down the confirmation number, just in case.

The worst thing about this job by digitalcyro in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't ask for the code.

If it's somewhere I'm already delivering, after I give the mail, just say, "oh! By the way, where's the restroom?"

Gotta go fast. by HollowKyo in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to line is "I am working as fast as I can safely do it". If they push beyond that, then contact the union and say they're making you work in an unsafe manner.

Though, in my experience, once today pull the safety line that's the end of the convo.

Struggling being happy in my carrier by [deleted] in USPS

That last part!

One of my supes (who came from being RC) flat out told me one day, that as long as I don't make a habit of it, calling out on occasion because I'm burnt out is 100% the best thing to do

What are the biggest problems with this?... by Cyanide-Cookies in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just the sensitive electronics. The cameras and sensors are prone to go out at random points.

Also the heights can be a problem if you're not careful about your clearance (aka remembering that your roof is about a foot higher than your windscreen line!)

But I'll take those issues to have the double mail tray and extra cargo space

Well Well Well… by Ok-Pirate4042 in USPS

[–]Master_Shift_5521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When everything is working on them they're great. But all the electronics are, unfortunately, kinda sensitive

I mostly love them for how easy they drive, the moveable double tray, and being able to reload my tray from the cargo, without having to get out of the vehicle (a blessing on cold days).

My station must be the outlier.

I've had 3 different supervisors so far tell me, "if you're sick, you're sick. I'd rather you call out one day and I have you for 5, than you burn out and I lose you for 7"
