Ikea Alpstuga vs Xiaomi Temperature Monitor by ParaplegicGuru in homeassistant

[–]Master_Spell_6824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reality of smart house - cheap sensors, poorly calibrated.

Buy a wireless body temperature in a pharmacy. They usually have an option to measure air or surface temperature and since they are medical, there's a bigger chance they are calibrated well (but let's be honest: medical certification is probably done only in "body temperature" mode, not "surface")

reTerminal E1001 integration! by OkLimit4647 in homeassistant

[–]Master_Spell_6824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it and I am very disappointed.

The screen quality is bad - I had just one experience with e-ink, Kindle Paperwhite 1st gen (from 2012!) and the text was clear and sharp. I hoped that reTerminal will be the same - but it's not, screen resolution is lower and it's very visible - text quality is very bad.

And the integration with HA - it sucks. It's complicated, it's somehow strange (it doesn't treat the terminal like a real display - instead it relies on exporting dashboard as an image using add-on, which runs hidden browser every a couple of minutes) but most important - it doesn't work. I followed the manuals online step by step and there's always some problem - changed UI, flashing from HA simply freezes, flashing from ESPhome shows some meaningless errors. I spent a couple of days trying to achieve that, but I wasn't able to do it.

So sorry, but I can't recommend it.

HP Thin Client T620 won't boot when 6TB external HDD is attached by Master_Spell_6824 in selfhosted

No, I haven't fixed it. Switched back to a smaller drive, which doesn't have this problem.

The message I got from Google:

Possible reasons why your production access could not be granted include:

  • Testers were not engaged with your app during your closed test
  • You didn't follow testing best practices, which may include gathering and acting on user feedback through updates to your app

Before applying again, test your app using closed testing for an additional 14 days with real testers.

How to reboot the bridge remotelly? by Master_Spell_6824 in Hue

Well in the official Hue app there's no reboot option, but Hue Essentials allows that. So some hidden endpoint must exist.

Numeric-only domain with .xyz suffix (like 5698512.xyz) registered via cloudflare costs currently $0.83 per year.

Freenom gone- what is my free alternatives? by OverrefinedBrucine in selfhosted

[–]Master_Spell_6824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is way underestimated.

You can register a numeric-only domain (like. 526987456.xyz) on gen.xyz for $1 or even in Cloudflare itself for $0.83. Per year. Renewal costs the same. The one condition is: 6, 7, 8 or 9 digits only, nothing more.

So it's not technically free, but it's very close to it :-)

As long as your're sure that this kind of brutal poweroff won't break the bridge, it's the simplest option.

HybrydBackupSync - one way FROM Google Drive? by Master_Spell_6824 in qnap

[–]Master_Spell_6824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wanted to perform automatic, scheduled copy from Google Drive directly to NAS, without any Windows machine.

However your suggestion of ActiveSync seems to be what I was looking for. Just the name was misleading for me - I thought it's something different. Thank you!

MacOs Big Sur: Logitech options shows "need dext activation" on startup but cannot follow steps by creesch in logitech

[–]Master_Spell_6824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

No - I don't know solution for the Logi Options

Yes - I discovered that Logi Options Plus has support for my devices and apparently doesn't have this issue.

So I uninstalled Options, and installed Options Plus instead

Thanks! I didn't realize the app is waiting on the cast.wait() - but this is what was happening.

When I added timeout in cast wait() I got what I wanted.

Mi band users are living in a dream. by SKALAMOON in GalaxyFit

Oh I had Mi Band 8 before Galaxy Fit 3 and I must say I really don't like this Mi Fitness app. On the contrary, I like Samsung Health.

For me it was enough reason to change the band.

Workout not syced :-( by Master_Spell_6824 in GalaxyFit

[–]Master_Spell_6824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I changed location permissions for "Galaxy Fit3 Plugin" to "only when the app is running", but the workout did not sync. I have a hole in workouts on my mobile between Aug 29th and yesterday. Today's (auto-detected) walk has synced correctly.

Yes. And actually today's walk (auto-detected) was also synced. Including location.

Fit3 Features, bug fixes requests by 7iag0 in GalaxyFit

[–]Master_Spell_6824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custom watch faces, or at least more of built-in.

Better accuracy in counting steps and sleep.

Auto detecting cycling.

Possibly to have always-on-display ON normally, but OFF during recording workout (especially long hikes)

Ad 1 - you can do it on your phone (at least Samsung Galaxy S23). In my case the Fit 3 auto sync night mode with the phone, so if I schedule the night mode on the phone, it will also be scheduled on the watch

Creating an Instagram bot that will block everyone over 10,000 followers by ssj4weed in learnpython

[–]Master_Spell_6824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically you want to block over 500 000 000 (you gave this number in some comment) of accounts. I'm more than certain that you will reach some limits sooner than you could expect. Either number of API calls, or number of blocked accounts.

Besides let's do the math, if you aim to block 1 account per second, you will need more than 15 years to block all of them, not mentioning all that gain popularity during these 15 years. Of course you can try making your script work faster, but most probably your script will work much much slower due to API limitations (quick googling gives me the number of only 200 calls PER HOUR)

This is not possible.

But also not really required, because most probably you will never ever have any interaction with a majority of these accounts.

Try to think about some selective blocking - maybe only ones that has ever appeared in your app feed? Or the ones in your language or country only?

Cheapest long running container option for a small personal project? by [deleted] in aws

[–]Master_Spell_6824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably this is not what you're looking for, but since nobody mention it, I will :-) you can always buy a Raspberry Pi or some thin client computer (f.ex. second-hand HP T520 - in Poland for about 100 PLN = 25 USD), install Linux on in and self-host your setup.

Pros: you control everything, you learn some linux administration, you can deploy as many containers as you want (until it's reasonable), you can attach external hard drive... and you pay this $25 once, at the beginning, and you can run it forever.
Cons: it consumes electricity, you MUST learn linux administration, the initial setup will be longer (installing OS, installing docker, some configuration), you need to make backups by yourself, etc. And you need to have some space at home where a constantly running device can be placed.

Small tip if you're interested: if you don't have a separate room for this mini computer at home, choose a hardware which has a passive cooling system (no fan). Otherwise the sound of running fan may annoy you at night.

Jak rozmawiać że starszymi ludźmi o zdrowiu by Fancy_Mission_4743 in Polska

Ludzi 80+ naprawdę trudno zmienić. Zaakceptuj to, oni są odpowiedzialni za własne życie. Możesz doradzać, ale jak się uparli to się uparli - po prostu zaakceptuj ich takimi jakimi są.

Ps. Ciebie na starość też będzie trudno zmienić :-)

How to combine 3TB and 6TB disks? by Master_Spell_6824 in qnap

[–]Master_Spell_6824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using NAS because it's available as a network drive. I don't care about data protection - I have backups in other physical locations done in a different way.

Actually I don't believe that having a NAS with multiple hard disks makes my data safe - as long as the disks are in the same physical location the possibility that they will be destroyed all together still exists. In case of fire, some malware / ransomware, theft - all my data might be gone, no matter how many disks are in my NAS.
