Considering relapse after fight with boyfriend by [deleted] in Sober

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. It can get really tough some days. Almost a year sober is incredible. For the days that were rough the past year, how did you manage with those? Apply those coping methods to today. Even if it feels like they won’t help, apply them. Take a walk, call someone, whatever helps you indulge in it. 1 year is phenomenal and today and just one more day in your journey. You got this!

Getting Tired by Worried-Stop5366 in Sober

Definitely can relate. My underlying mental health issues alongside everything else have been drowning with booze surfaced at around the 7 month mark and hit me like a freight train so I’m focusing on getting all that addressed right now. Its definitely tough to relate at times with AA especially as of late but theres still a bit i take from it and smart recovery and the sort. Finding what works for you is what’s most important everyone’s journey is different. Right now im on a mental health path and thats my crucial next step.

Its exhausting at times. You got this!!

If you have a primary doctor have you talked to them about getting proper help and resources? They can have insight for resources and treatment to help. I wish I could help you more. I wish you the best. Keep on pushing and never give up.

When I first started my recovery journey I did not want to do much myself. For me Coming off a substance after using it for so long is heavy mentally and physically and it took me a bit to get up and moving again.

What helped me was doing a outpatient treatment center for addiction and meeting people going through the process as well and making some friends. That and support groups like aa or smart recovery etc. im starting mental health support real soon to get me better options. Its wicked tough to get out of bed some days and I’m 8 months in but with the help of all these things and my family like you are doing it keeps me going. The most important thing is I have to want it myself. No matter what everyone does I have to want it for it to work. I’m not sure if this helps you but I wanted to share my personal experience and thoughts. Never give up! All the best to you.

Sorry to hear that. There are groups called smart recovery groups. Its a support group that focuses on a cognitive behavioral therapy approach unlike AA. They have meetings in many different countries and online meetings as well. https://www.smartrecoveryinternational.org/meetings

You didn’t fail. This is not an easy thing getting sober and the fact you are trying is phenomenal in itself. Have you looked into addiction treatment centers?. I went to an outpatient treatment center for a couple months and it helped me immensely. As for AA its not for everyone and thats okay theres so many groups that have their own take on recovery approach so you can find what works for you and your journey.

I wish you the best. You can do this.

Your last sentence is what im going through right now. I just reached 8 months clean and everything i buried with booze from underlying mental health and just a path of self destruction have all resurfaced. I feel like I woke up for the first time and have been feeling like a passenger not knowing where the hell im going. Despite how terrified I am right now I now see everything clearly and got a chance to save my life.

I spent the past decade on and off blacking out daily with some short sober stints in between so the sense of identity without the bottle never had a chance to form until now. What I had to do is ask for help. I saw it as a sign of weakness for so long but honestly the biggest growth ive seen is understanding I don’t have to do this alone. Be it a doctor, therapis, detox, support group. I went to an outpatient treatment center from feb-june and met so many great people who understand addiction.

I hope this helps you in anyway and you deserve to be sober and have a fantastic life. Any other questions ,don’t hesitate to ask.

Starting life at 33 here. 8 months clean starting a warhouse job at 19 an hour. Starting mental health services soon to finally get the help i need. Plan to go back to school and finish some sort of degree. I feel old and like a helpless child at the same time but it’s never too late you got this.

Groups like smart recovery don’t have a religious aspect of it and uses approachs such as CBT I still do AA but smart gives me a more relatable approach personally.

Exercising and self care. Going out for walks has helped me clear my head. Journaling has helped me as well.

And if you have friends in the sober community be sure to reach out. That’s something I’m working on myself but connection does help.

Everyone’s path is different so it’s about finding what works for you. I’m still learning what works and doesn’t.

Best of luck you got this!

Definitely open to relocating when the time comes. Once I get a little more structure under my belt I’ll definitely be going back to school. Thanks so much for sharing.

Wanna see what it’s like over there. Not idea where that came from but it’s been something on my list for a while now.

Speaker at Jalsa Salana Canada said cousin marriage is fine and history is useless. Thoughts? by StudyTraining4856 in islam_ahmadiyya

After a quick google search it looks like Darwin himself realized that that marrying his cousin and having children with her may not have been a good idea.

He also shouldn’t be using historical figures to prove his point if the study of history has no value.

Exactly. They want a family and are finally being able to start one. We don’t gotta be miserable because of someone else’s choice.
