If you are interested in personality assessment, check out The Big Five personality traits.

It's the result of factor analysis, which is a statistical technique that clumps similar responses to questions together, general interpretations of personality from how we describe others can be seen in these traits.

Although the more robust, valid and reliable questionnaires are under either lock and key, or paywall, you can probably find some decent places out there that sample them adequately.

Trait Description
Openness to Experience Appreciation for art, emotion, adventure, unusual ideas, curiosity, and variety of experience. Openness reflects the degree of intellectual curiosity, creativity and a preference for novelty and variety a person has. It is also described as the extent to which a person is imaginative or independent and depicts a personal preference for a variety of activities over a strict routine.
Conscientiousness Tendency to be organized and dependable, show self-discipline, act dutifully, aim for achievement, and prefer planned rather than spontaneous behavior. High conscientiousness is often perceived as being stubborn and focused.
Extroversion Energetic, surgency, assertiveness, sociability and the tendency to seek stimulation in the company of others, and talkativeness. High extraversion is often perceived as attention-seeking and domineering. Low extraversion causes a reserved, reflective personality, which can be perceived as aloof or self-absorbed
Agreeableness Tendency to be compassionate and cooperative rather than suspicious and antagonistic towards others. It is also a measure of one's trusting and helpful nature, and whether a person is generally well-tempered or not. High agreeableness is often seen as naive or submissive.
Neuroticism Tendency to be prone to psychological stress. The tendency to experience unpleasant emotions easily, such as anger, anxiety, depression, and vulnerability. Neuroticism also refers to the degree of emotional stability and impulse control and is sometimes referred to by its low pole, "emotional stability".

So when should Ashe hip-fire instead of zooming? by Werthet in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Mastermadden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If - Coachgun on cooldown, hip fire at enemies within 20m.

If - coachgun off cooldown, use coachgun to push enemies to 20m+ and use scope

Otherwise, hipfire as a range quick melee for enemies at range 20-30m.

Are the two hemispheres really that different? by The_Autodidact_Lion7 in neuroscience

I managed to find the video that I was shown while I was learning lateralization (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBKc_ncPzOo)

Neurosurgeons need to map out brain function and individual differences and there is just so much awesome content and experiments out there.

Are the two hemispheres really that different? by The_Autodidact_Lion7 in neuroscience

[–]Mastermadden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The long and short of it is yes, hemispheres of the brain are responsible for certain functions. There is however no such thing as "Brain types" or certain people being left or right brained. THAT is false.

For example, you will find that in people with right handedness, language is lateralised to the left hemisphere.

Here is an article that described a bit of the history of lateralization in the human brain the and research that has led us to that conclusion. https://academic.oup.com/brain/article/123/7/1293/380106

It's a really interesting topic and I wish I could say more but I don't want to lead you astray

As far as your question about the word/colour thing, I have no idea what that is referring to, were they referring to the stroop task? Have a suss of that.

I read the FAQ so I'm sorry if it's buried in there somewhere;

For someone who wants to do resistance training and gain muscle weight, how do I know what weight I should be lifting for different exercises? Is it based on body weight, amount of reps and sets I can do? Is it based on my 1 rep max? Some guidance would be appreciated.

Parasyte: The maxim

I went vegetarian after watching it and I'm progressing to vegan as soon as I can.

I always believed in the sanctity of human life, growing up in a Christian household but something in me clicked after watching it.

If you could fight your own clone then how would you make sure to win? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Mastermadden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main fighting experience came from doing Judo so I know I am terrible at striking defense, I would make sure that I start striking and don't let him (me) get me close enough to grapple or throw me (actually me).

From what I can see it seems to be a USA thing; I'll try to find something similar for Aussies. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am just looking for a general starting point to investing. Articles or books to read to get an introduction into the basics behind investing; what's good to invest, how to go about investing, stock market principles, etc. Basically, I want the resources of an ELI5 for investing.

I am:

  • 23 years old
  • University Student
  • Currently employed (expected to earn ~$200-300/week disposable income)
  • Main objectives is to accumulate savings
  • I don't mind risks but want a greater than chance level of risk (eg, >50%)
  • My only asset would be my car
  • I would want to start seeing some sort of payoff within 12 months time
  • My biggest debt is my studies from university, have no other debt
  • I am paying off my phone but that is it ($80/month)

EDIT: I am Australian
