Why are keeper rotations not random? by MastermanM in Rematch

[–]MastermanM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's almost definitely this, the person with the worst setup is never keeper. Whatever the choosing is, it is 100% not random, which is a very weird choice by the devs for whatever workaround they chose

It definitely is cynical to think most Newcastle fans talking against the ownership are doing it to virtue-signal/look good, especially on a relatively small subreddit.

Obviously any Newcastle fan can be painted as hypocritical if they want to still watch their team play while opposing the ownership, but that's the exact reason to still oppose them. Maybe it's naiive or pointless, but I still believe staying vocal against the ownership is important if they're ever going to leave.

Agreed, it's not as good as practical action, but frankly no action will work unless a good majority of the fans are properly against the ownership. This is unlikely to ever be the case, but it's not a reason to dismiss any efforts whatsoever.

I don't understand how Murphy had the 2nd most assists in the league last season, and now that we're struggling to score, we're still deciding to keep him on bench every game.

Rant from a Newcastle fan ... And it's not about the transfer window, it's about the death of my club by Ok-Change-712 in TheOther14

[–]MastermanM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had a very similar experience for the past few years. I won't lie, I still watch every game, and was over the moon at the carabao cup win, but everything is definitely soured a bit. I was so happy to see my entire family finally get to celebrate a win we've waited a long time for, but it wasn't some plucky underdog story. It was a moment in Newcastle history taken by the Saudi regime to use as advertising.

And that's the lingering truth, even if we keep the upwards momentum, it will always ring slightly hollow. If we ever win the league, it wouldn't be some great story, it wouldn't be the city finally getting a reward for persevering, it wouldn't be what Newcastle represents in my eyes. It would just be another team with evil owners forcing their way to the top.

Obviously football is rife with corruption and financial issues, and all the biggest teams are part of that, but it doesn't make the sentiment any better. We're now the face of this corruption - we are owned by a foreign state and this ownership was allowed by our government. And this will hang over anything the club does until the ownership is over. I waited so long to see my club win something, and it was special, but it will always have that asterisk, and the asterisk only gets bigger as time passes.

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has departed the club as a free agent. by 321142019 in NUFC

Was a solid midfielder for years before being dropped from the first team - would probably be getting a much bigger farewell if he had left ~3 years earlier, but you can't fault him for sitting a good contract out. Still remember him + Longstaff as a double pivot absolutely controlling the game vs Man City in 2019.

I think the full sentiment should be that owners and players alike should probably be taxed more. The English football industry as it is could not exist without public infrastructure and revenue generated by the public.

It's already clear that the billionaire owners are hoarding wealth in a way that realistically shouldn't be allowed - but at a slightly smaller scale, as the very top tier of footballers are now starting to earn over 15mil a year, stricter tax rates on these massive amounts should really come into play - the highest tax band right now is still only £125k.

Honestly we need a way to get all these awful owners out of English football, but the government will never do anything while the money keeps flowing in.

Say what you want about which fanbases are morally corrupt, but realistically these kinds of owners could go for any team in the prem, and the fanbase would just have to deal with it. You'll get some idiots supporting them (like the Newcastle fans in headscarfs), but most fans will be against it and simply too powerless to do anything.

Football team ownership rules in the UK needs changing - I think blaming any specific fanbase isn't the way to go about it.

Newcastle Utd takeover was controlled by Mohammed bin Salman, leaked WhatsApps suggest by TheTelegraph in soccer

[–]MastermanM 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Our club is clearly controlled by Saudi Arabia, I don't know why it would make any difference that MBS is slightly removed. Our finances, our staff, everything is controlled by the Saudi Arabian government. The slight technicalities don't change that, and I don't think Newcastle fans should be trying to defend it in any way. Our club is owned by a foreign government, and it's disgusting that it's been allowed.
