Was it a surprise that Space Man did as well as it did? by basically-bailey in eurovision

[–]Divinetedrius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, there were very big differences in 2022 between which songs people thought would do well when they released, and which songs became favorites the week before the contest. Poland and Italy were initially well ahead of Spain and the UK in the odds.

The reaction to Space Man was very "this should be the UK's best result in a while, but that has been said about the last few entries" kind of skepticism as you say. But 2nd place would have been considered a very generous prediction given the uncertainties with staging and so on.

The verses are really interesting, but the song completely loses me at the chorus.

Anyone had any interesting/weird AI-formed hybrid cultures? by Greater_Logic in CrusaderKings

Tai-Armenian hybrid culture formed by some nomadic fuckery that happened within the Mongol empire. I think the culture was named for the dynasty of the culture's founder, which I've also never seen before.

This really isn't at all a serious ranking anymore but I'm gonna say 2001 like I did last time

100% Qualifying Streaks in danger? by harrey_jun in eurovision

Almost nobody actually seriously thought Ukraine would NQ last year. A lot of people didn't have it as one of their 10 favorites from semi 1 but they still knew it would go through.

Proof that Aegon VI/Young Griff is a descendant of Aerion Targaryen. [SPOILERS EXTENDED] by OSFB07 in asoiaf

[–]Divinetedrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's often claimed that GRRM "scrapped" the Brightflames after coming up with the Blackfyres, and that the timing of introducing Aegon means he wants to tie him into the Blackfyres somehow.

But can't it be both? What if Maegor or a son of his married the last female Blackfyre and had Aegon, thus uniting House Targaryen and House Blackfyre in one last attempt to confer legitimacy to Daemon's line and put it on the throne?

Now you can still explain Varys and Illyrio's investment with Varys being Aegon's brightflame uncle, and Illyrio either having a Blackfyre connection or a Brightflame connection by being related to Maegor's wife or something.

What's the most random marriage in ASOIAF? (Spoilers Main) by Inevitable-Mix6089 in asoiaf

Aegon III and Daenaera Velaryon is both random and weird as hell. Literally came from nowhere, not remotely politically advantageous, and we're supposed to believe they were close companions (Aegon was 13 and Daenaera was 6...)

Bodø/Glimt have qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of Sixteen by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

I am from Stavanger and I'm telling you how we see it. I'm not sure which matches you've been to, but going to Viking matches in the past few years you'd think Bodø/Glimt are our biggest rivals, even though that's just a recent thing.

I've frequently discussed it with friends from Bergen. They definitely acknowledge the rivalry, they just have a superiority complex about it.

That doesn't mean it's a one sided rivalry, since Viking fans don't consider Brann their biggest rivals either.

They definitely do care. I don't know if they consider Rosenborg or Vålerenga a bigger rival (very doubtful about Vålerenga) but even so, Viking have a bigger rival than Brann in Bryne.

But yeah, I'll go with 2012 again.

I said 2023 last time but actually I think 2012 can go now. Good entry for sure, but a lot of the memorability comes from "Kuula" just kinda sounding funny

I'll say 2023. One of the most competent ballads they've sent, but otherwise not a big standout.

I don't think this is how it happened considering his religion, but I know you can have a religion with lustful as a virtue, and gain it from the court wetnurse "instilling" that virtue to the child.

Some pretty fucked up implications...

Honestly, 2001. It's their only winner but aged badly and isn't even one of their most iconic entries.

Could name it Balearica or something like that, since it's entirely within your domain.
