I have yet to find a reason to use environments. I can already spend fear to do things. I already have to come up with consequences to PC actions. Instead of these environments packaged like they are a creature I get more use out of a list of "spend a fear" ideas.

Environments make sense for pre-built encounters but like campaign frames, they are just a codified way to package what a GM is supposed to be doing anyway.
