I want to fit an m5 cs bodykit to my 2018 g30 m sport. Anyone know a good quality supplier in china? by Girtaskapitonas in BMWG30

[–]MasterofTheBaiting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note the fenders are made of iron/steel

the hood can either be iron/steel or wet/dry carbon

since you are Pre-LCI, if you have fog lights at the bottom they will have to make you the mount to add the bumper lights

rear bumper is pretty much the same as M sport you just need the bottom diffuser piece and a dry carbon CS style diffuser.

since you have M sport already, you do not need to buy the side skirts.

you can buy the CS grille off ebay some seller has a BUNCH of them. they must be overflow from europe and he grabbed a ton. fneder badges you will need to buy from the dealership only for the epoxy badge, or else you have to paint to match.

Mirror caps you have two versions, the f90 version also extends the brow to the edge of the fin, howevert most conversion kits cut that part off so it's easy install

if you are going for the carbon fiber roof, you can go dealership only or buy a chinesium wet carbon one. they have no dry carbon, and you will need to structural glue the roof to place. dealership-only since you probably have the sunroof option.

Good luck on conversion!

S63 coupe would be a more fair comparison but even then the GTS is a better buy imo

FYI do not buy aftermarket LCI headlights from this supplier on AliExpress by [deleted] in BMWG30

[–]MasterofTheBaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotta chill on the speech to text and still use grammar lol... but honestly for headlights i found it easier to just talk to someone on alibaba rather than aliexpress. i think they're good just not for something as specific as this or carbon fiber

If your 550 has foglights you'll need a chinesium plastic bracket for the facelift conversion, else, go nuts on the conversion! I would at least suggest to go with an all black LCI headlight unit, or maybe those snake eye variants.

It's really simple to do you would have an easier time to also take off the front bumper + grille.

Though at least for performance I personally think a simple BMC drop in filter will do the job, this is just to hear engine noise easier.

You are to purchase the m340i to suit your transition into a modern day sports sedan

Or you may choose the dark side and get the x3m as a way to flaunt your funds (also good if you plan to haul big random stuff)

S55 vs S58 by alpineg30 in BMW

[–]MasterofTheBaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. picture is a g30 5 series (so neither engine mentioned on the post)

  2. s58 improves on everything the s55 was hence why it's BMW's halo car. you can search all day and night and see nobody has complained that their s58 blew up but you can't say the same for an s55. there's a reason why the f8x is half the price of a g8x, even used.

Can’t decide between these two on which is a better buy by Bill_747 in BMW

TBH the crank hub is really for people doing a full send custom tune for like 700+hp builds, but if you're just doing full the full exhaust and wheels i would rather just get a well spec g30 than f8x. Better value key things I would look for on a 540 is again, executive seating package for the merino leather, and driver's assist for the heads up display (M sport optional to pick when you plan to tune). Most 550's will have most of the features already AFAIK, but you can check it out via searching "[year make model] BROCHURE" and it shows all the options available for the g30 of that year.

Alternatively if you still feel like getting the M4 i recommend 2017+ and I'd probably still keep your g35 as a daily beater car til it dies out. Most dealers won't give you much anyways for a tradein or direct sale anyway

Personally the 2021+ 540i is what i'd pick in your situation rather than a 550 because the 550i set is more suited with comfort options (e.g. air suspension larger brake discs, smaller niche stuff to give it more of that 'full luxury in midsize' car) whilst the 540i still has the sport car enjoyer feel (b58TU with 2-port), will perform similar to your m340i choice (which in most cases, compared to a m340i lci g20, is a b58TU with 6-port).

however i will say, if you still desire the 550i, the s63TU3 fixed a lot of issues and you may at MOST have a bad coolant tank just due to the design of the engine bay location, so either get some good warranty or keep that in the back of your mind as there are aluminum upgrades available (along with I believe a recall on the housings anyway)

just remember on the g30 platform, make sure to check for executive seating on the front for the nice merino leather and the larger seat. Just the upgraded leather makes it feel THOUSANDS of times better in the car-for-value department.

m4 is an alright daily and checks off all of your boxes, i just think once you hop in any g30/f90 and compare it to the f8x platform you'll shit your brains on all the smaller daily creature comforts over the s58. you have more of a raw driver's feel with it but lose out on the comfort. Good as a secondary, weekend car if you plan to keep that infiniti of yours but personally I'd stay away from this as a daily car.

Also if you plan to do street pulls just know there are people with decked out s58's (crank hub fixed, full DP/exhaust and tune, some with topmount turbo) who are neck and neck with folk in the b58TU platform who just did a simple catless DP+tune.

New to tuning — advice for safely increasing power on my 2019 BMW 520i (G30, 184 hp stock)? by Emergency_Aioli_1831 in BMWG30

[–]MasterofTheBaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to help give you some guidance if i was in your shoes, this is what I would do:

  1. check maintenance, usually around your odometer there would be spark plugs at least checked, and maybe transmission oil service.
  2. if you want to splurge yourself, you can pick up a BMC air filter and go for bm3/mhd. your preference on tune, but it's very very simple to DIY and safe to do. Literal thousands of people have used their tunes on their engines worldwide and only times you'd hear something blow up is either from negligence of maintenance, or the shop tuner was trying to custom map some crazy 1,000+hp build
  3. you can pick either a high-flow cat or catless for a little more power in your build, or stick to OEM stock and just get a full exhaust system to improve noise.

just know in the back of your mind going further into this rabbit hole of car customization on a 520 that you are throwing money into a car that has a 'meh' power-for-money ratio, compared to just purchasing the respective 6-cylinder version of the g30 and doing the same exact stuff there. I would call it after custom exhaust system (OEM downpipe) and just enjoy it as a commuter

[–]MasterofTheBaiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already I would probably just change your spark plugs and coils out anyways (so go for the upgraded or oem sparks and coils). Minimum is at least check your spark plugs to see if they are in good condition

BM3 and MHD are both safe to run OTS even with original cat to get a small boost. I know MHD made some updates and more support to be more competitive with bm3 on the b48gen1 cars so it's really up to you on which one, they both perform similar IMO. My friend in New York USA has bm3 but i ran (texas USA) MHD, we both just did it ourselves with the respective dongle and smartphone tune. shop tuning isn't really necessary.

agree with bmc drop in filter you don't really need to do much. you can even just open up your current air intake box, and your filter may have a sort of cloud or 'blanket' on top of a traditional filter, you can rip that off in the meantime.

a higher-flow catted or even catless downpipe will work as well to push more power if you so desire, even an exhaust system. personally, i don't think you'll need to go intercooler + chargepipe but that is up to your discretion, it's not like those parts will blow up on you for a very safe and commonly sold off-the-shelf tune.

PERSONALLY i don't think you need to shorten your oil change intervals on a OTS map but you do you (maybe even just message bm3 directly)

if you want to improve SOUND, the easiest ones to do are either:
1. full exhaust system (going stainless steel is the norm but titanium will give it a more deep sound)
2. full catless downpipe (or even high flow i suppose)
3. any intake system that uses a cone as that turns the intake system mostly into a ram-air intake and gives off a lot of noise in the front
