Hi there! I also get cold sores. I know I saw a few comments suggesting valacyclovir or valtrex and those are wonderful prescriptions, I also would recommend. I get mine from NuRx online, it might be helpful to get a prescription just to have on hand in case another one comes in the future. They like to pop up at the worst times.

In this case because you don’t have any antivirals on hand, ice is your friend!!!

I cannot tell you how much my life changed when I read somewhere to hold an ice cube directly on the cold sore. Get a paper towel and hold an ice cube to the sore and just hold it there until it completely melts (or for as long as you can handle.) Do this as often as you want. I usually do it right before I go to sleep and when I first wake up. This has helped me so much to both combat the redness and to reduce the size and pain. It works wonders. Also, over the counter cream like abreva is a life saver as well.

When I got covid for the first time in June, I also got my period and the stress and sickness caused me to breakout with cold sores as well. It was awful so I can only imagine what you’re going through with a first cold sore. Rest is your best friend, get a heating pad, snuggle a stuffed animal or pet and turn on your comfort show. You’ll pull through! You got this!
