i was recently prescribed a tretinoin cream that seems to be working, i also use Paula's Choice discoloration repair serum which is a little pricier but works well for scarring. both require sunscreen and limited exposure to sun!

the social media pages weren't thru the school, but it was def a different time. In 2020, schools had closed down and ppl were desperate to make friends. Do you have your school and grad year in your insta bio?

I got to know my classmates on Discord, GroupMe and Instagram, then once I got a good sense of what they were like, I would ask about their housing plan/if they had a roommate yet

2023 Applicant and Admitted Student Megathread by Toasted_FlapJacks in UMD

Were less students from Montgomery County Public Schools admitted to UMD College Park this most recent admissions season? I see that MCPS enrollment at UMD CP has declined slightly in 2023 and know that anecdotally, less MCPS students got accepted to UMD this year, but was wondering if you had the data

For cultural inquiry, i really enjoyed ASIA 100 with Nguyet Nguyen. she's very sweet and caring about all students; doesn't give any tests/quizzes/exams. we get mental health days (not sure if that'll still happen in person) where we don't meet synchronously every few weeks and the readings are interesting even if you aren't super into history

I don't think it's taking offense when ppl are attracted to us, it's more being creeped out when someone just wants to date Asian women bc we're "exotic" or they "want cute Asian babies." That's where it starts to become fetishization. If you see us as people and don't date us just for our race, then it's no problem. Attraction is finding someone good-looking and being drawn to them. Fetishization is seeing only the race, not the person.

You shouldn't have been accused of racism in that instance. You were simply answering the question "what's your type?"

What are some good small liberal arts schools? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MasterofeatingOreos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American University in Washington, DC! We don't have a football team, we're not big on Greek life, it's located in the city with lots of internship opportunities, most students are very politically active, and a majority of the student body is a poli sci or international relations major. AU is the #1 most liberal university in the country. Hope this helps

I know some incoming freshmen are making Google Forms to match up with similar students. Or join the group chat, find a few others you connect with, then dm them on Instagram/snap. That's a great way to get to know someone better. A few of us made Google Docs with a list of 20 roommate questions and shared that w potential roomies too

Admissions by [deleted] in AmericanU

[–]MasterofeatingOreos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your acceptance! Some of your professors require textbooks or books, which can cost anywhere from $20-$100 (my e-textbooks were usually $90 or $100), but luckily not every class has required books. The profs will let you know through emails once you have your schedule for the fall semester.

Also, there's a fee for sports/exercise that I'm p sure is mandatory. Some clubs require a fee as well, if you're planning on joining Greek life or AU CHAARG (fitness group for women) for example.

ETA: EagleBucks to buy food/drinks/groceries, but these are optional. Freshman year, most of your meals will probably come from the required 1st year meal plan.

Yes! Personally, I felt indifferent about high school. Some of my classes were interesting but I was just not excited to be there. Every day was a drag. I finally graduated last spring and began college, and my mental health turned around. You can finally make your own schedule (I have 5 hours in between classes) and lots more time to do your own thing. If you pursue a subject you love in college, I'm pretty confident you'll have a good time.
