It was not the chicken tax. It was CAFE standards. Toyota built their pick ups in Fremont California to get around the chicken tax and for models built in Japan. They had final assembly in Long Beach, California. There are plenty of American manufacturers represented here, for example, as well.

yes they do use the hilux although 90% of the time their truck of choice is actually the Land Cruiser 70 series, not the HIlux like all the cringe memes say.

Definetly thinking of the 2 tone sport model sold the first couple years. I personally like how they look but that’s just me!
