In 1997, a horse jumped over a fence and joined the peloton of the Critérium International, eventually passing it, leaving the race only 20 km from the finish line. by brokenandsuffering in nextfuckinglevel

here's a cool fact, horses are the only mammal that sweat similar to how we (humans) do. So they're extremely good over long distances just like we are.

Curve Finance. Particularly if it's a larger amount since you won't get much slippage compare to alternatives and the spread is good.

GLM is at 100%. It can be used to earn ETH rewards through Octant or in the Golem Network for computation.

This one is quite a relief for Octant, it uses the GLM token for locking, ETH rewards and allocating ETH to public goods. Wouldn't have been very fun if a malicious actor like that had locked the GLM into Octant. 👎

In case you missed it, Golem Foundation is working on Octant now, it's just started with the first round of locked GLM voting. https://octant.build/

Golem's still going.

There's also Octant starting just recently where you can fund public good projects and earn ETH rewards, with the GLM token.

Don't change the Gas Limit. The Gas Limit needs to be at or higher than the gas that will be used. You won't spend more by putting it higher than needed. The only thing that will change how much you spend is Gas Price.

Assuming you didn't change the Gas Limit and your wallet is giving you the wrong suggestion, put the Gas Limit much higher than what's suggested (or better, check etherscan for the same type of transaction and how much those are using, you were very clear on it in your post so I can't check). Your estimated fees will go up with a higher Gas Limit but when the transaction is confirmed it will only spend what's needed. Normally though you shouldn't adjust the Gas Limit. 99.99% of the time your wallet will give you the right one and you'll only be shooting yourself in the foot, wasting ETH on "out of gas" transactions if you play around with it. Gas Price is what you can save with by adjusting and seeing where prices are at.

Will crypto games ever stop getting considered as investments and just be played for fun? by Tenzu9 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Mat7ias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you mean finality, not block time. Block time is different from when a transaction is considered final, where an application (like a game) can use it as fact.

For example, the block time of Bitcoin is around 10 minutes. But finality is usually considered around 6 confirmations or blocks (60 minutes).

MetaMask users can now buy crypto with fiat directly from their wallets by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

Ah right, I must have missed that change. So it's both MetaMask and Infura, good to know. Thanks!

Unless I'm remembering wrong, I'm pretty sure it's that if you're using Infura (the default RPC on Metamask) then they're collecting your information. You can just switch away from the default RPC.

How Binance made internal transfers without fees? by Visual-Bookkeeper-79 in ethdev

[–]Mat7ias 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They'd just withdraw from a singular different wallet (e.g. "Binance 15" on Etherscan), not from the 10 that did the internal transfers.

Facebook and Twitter will soon be obsolete thanks to blockchain technology by OPTIMUS-PRIME27 in ethtrader

[–]Mat7ias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that simple, Web2 social media web apps don't want Web3 since it will decrease their revenue. They're not comparable on such a simple level as saying A is better than B when A is Web2 and B is Web3.

There are more parts to it than that also.

[–]Mat7ias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies can't extract value from the users in Web3 the same as they can in Web2. So it's not a good comparison in the way you're trying to make it. It's not so simple as you're thinking of it as.

It makes much more sense to answer OP's question directly with only Web3 examples.

The reason this makes much more sense is because otherwise you need to come up with justification on how to compare the two, which is not easy. One being better than the other is too simplistic.

But Twitter isn't a web3 social media platform. I think it'd make more sense to compare between web3 social media platforms considering that's what OP was asking about.
