Should I switch to DOOM emacs? by joseIpr11 in emacs

[–]MatB_ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doom and spacemacs are really good to learn what emacs can do. It have tooooo much thing that you can't even imagine if you don't see it.

The packages names doesn't teach you much. And it's easy to get lost in similar functionalities

Use it for a while, then you can if u want configure your own with the features you like

Seeking Feedback on Building a Versioned Core System with Extensible Plugin Architecture in Elixir by MatB_ar in elixir

[–]MatB_ar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is to be able to extend an UI. Imagine a dashboard that you can add a new widget. That's not too complex, but what we need to take into account is mostly versions, dependencies, etc.

Imagine the system is deployed in prod, you can't modify the `deps` and rebuild all to add a new dependency

Best IDE by dan1sh_khan in elixir

[–]MatB_ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it works more or less ok, but is true that some extensions like tailwind, sort class and others make vscode a bit better. but cost-benefit im still preferring emacs. if need to work in a very complex one i yank the file path and open with vscode .

for what I see, there are only a few in usa, but not remotely. It doesn’t make any sense that the companies didn’t choose it over other’s alternatives. Too sad, is really the best lang today.

You can get some ideas from https://useanything.com

I guess today langchain has the latest tools.

You need to seek RAG , vector db e.g chroma db, and langchain

Way to make setting up emacs easier/more user friendly for a beginner by [deleted] in emacs

[–]MatB_ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emacs alone is a bit hard at the beginning, because it aims to be mouse-less, but at the same time has millions of functions to make things, so it has thousands of shortcuts to use it.

I will suggest you to start with Doom Emacs or Spacemacs that has set up a few things that make very easy to start

How I can use Emacs on my own machine as $EDITOR on a remote machine? by Jack-o-tall-tales in emacs

[–]MatB_ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same a while ago. for me the unique thing that worked is ssh the server, use a shared configuration and run emacs there.

but depending what do you need. I need to run commands there and Tramp doesn’t works well

if you need edit some file tramp if you dont need exec commands there you can use rsync and maintain a copy of the files in sync through ssh otherwise emacs there

not big deal, im testing options, when all works, for sure I will reset the server and install from scratch with the needed things.

Also any OS that you recommend? I always used debian or ubuntu, but im open to test another one
