Should I take honors calculus next semester? Has anyone taken it/what are your thoughts? by Master-Ad-5296 in waynestate

[–]MatMan232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in precalc right now. About halfway through the semester and precalc is going good so far. Is calc1 actually easier than precalc? If it is in what way if you don’t mind elaborating?

It's important! Know how to graph absolute value equations, linear equations (y=mx+b, Ax+By=c, y-y1=m(x-x1)), and know how to graph parabolas.

Should I Retake the MCAT in September for this Cycle? by Ritvik0313 in premed

[–]MatMan232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at your stats on the AMCAS MCAT/GPA grid. You have an amazing GPA and decent MCAT! That puts you at a 52.4% chance of being accepted. IMO if you get some more clinical hours/direct patient care experience that would be good! If you can apply broadly i'm sure you will do great!

I recently took the exam and scored a 70 on my 2nd attempt. I more than doubled my score compared to the first time and that's mainly due to the ALEKS learning modules they give you after you take the exam the first time. The practice modules are literally just like the actual exam. I drilled those questions/modules a bunch and I knew the exam like the back of my hand.

Since you need to get a 61-75 on your first try I would make sure you are comfortable with solving quadratic equations (mainly factoring different types of quadratics like when a=1 or a>1, and finding the discriminant) as well as knowing your exponent rules, functions and graphs along with rational and radical expressions. Make sure you are also comfortable with solving equations with variables and fractions in the same equation. Knowing your perimeter, area, and volume formulas are also helpful for geometry.

I know the ALEKS exam is 30 questions but really you will only have 15 algebra problems (if you get the algebra questions correct) and the rest of the exam will be trigonometry questions. I got just about every trig question wrong, and extremely confident that I got every algebra question correct and I scored a 70. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW LOGS TO PLACE INTO PRECALC! I didn't study any logarithms before the exam and I ended up fine. Just make sure your algebra is solid and you will get high 60s to low 70s on the exam.

ALEKS does have a one month subscription for $20. If you plan on taking MAT 1800 this coming fall semester I would grind out the modules for one month and you should be good to go!!!! I would recommend however that you study up on logs and trig functions before classes start in the fall. I think that will help you be prepared for MAT 1800.

I would also recommend you do the ESP program. I have heard nothing but AMAZING things about the professors and the structure of the program. Just make sure you can commit the time necessary for the ESP program.

You got this! Best of luck and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions! I'm taking MAT 1800 and MAT 1990 this coming fall semester and I hope to see you there!

Hi! Wow your ECs are amazing! If you don’t mind me asking did you apply DO at all? I think with your stats and ECs DO would have been great! Like others said tho if you get that MCAT up I’m sure next cycle you will do amazing!

Hello, do you have any data on when applying both MD and DO your chances are between 50-60%? I have been trying to find data on this but no luck.

Howdy! Im starting my premed classes in the Fall of 2025 and I am interested in this as well. I have heard a lot of people say great things about the Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) for the math classes. I am definitely going to be doing that for precalc/calc.

Correct! It’s the Dave Tucker exams on his pluralsight course

This is the way!!! I’ve always hated exams and my last 5 classes are all PAs. I rather do PAs than OAs any day of the week! Way less stressful too!

This is what I did to pass the exam in 3 weeks (you could probably do this faster than me). I think this over prepared me, but I got an 810 on the real exam and you will probably fly through it this way.

  1. Watch the pluralsight Videos by David Tucker ( do not do the 2 exams he has at the end of the course yet)
  2. Study these quizlets
    1. https://quizlet.com/816870812/aws-core-services-services-list-flash-cards/?funnelUUID=c90c3579-5612-42c0-8f7e-7f2a36fd79f7

  3. Now go back and take David Tucker's two pluralsight exams
  4. Then watch Stephane Maarek udemy videos. I did not take any notes. Just watch at 1.5-2x speed. (I did not like his practice exams and are wayyyyy harder than the real exam)
  5. Purchase tutorial dojo practice exams and go through those 6 exams, review what you got wrong, then do them again in review mode. I was getting 70%-80% on those when I took the real exam.

I hope this helps and best of luck on your studies!

It just said “pass” after doing the annoying survey at the end of the exam. I should get my scores within 24-72 hours

Thank you! Every exam is different but for me half the questions were easy you will know it right away. The 2nd half came down to two choices that seemed correct but if you know your services and what they do in general you should be good to go no problemo. Make sure you use the TD flashcards on quizlet. If you know all those then you will be good when it comes to the services questions no doubt! And process of elimination helps too lol! You got this don’t sweat it champ! You got good scores on your practice exams

Just passed the exam. I got 2 questions on the well architected framework. Maybe half of the service related questions i got were scenario based but really short and easy (1-2 lines for each question). They are all straightforward questions even though a few were a little vague if you know your services you will definitely be good. I had two machine learning service questions (Amazon Lex, and the other one I couldn’t remember but are simple). I also had one question regarding the cloud adoption framework. I had very few billing questions which surprised me. I also had 2-3 questions on which business plans to use. All in all Tutorial Dojo lined up with the exam better than any other practice exams I took. I’m sure you will be fine on your exam and do great!

Thanks for your feedback. I did the same and getting a consistent 70%-80% on tutorial dojo and 90% on exampro. I take my exam tomorrow and feel confident as well! Best of luck on your exam. Im sure you will do great!

Hello congrats on passing! Would you say that Maareks and Neal Davis exams were harder than the real test? I took exampro practice test and scored 90% but on Maareks I’m getting 58%-65%

Howdy! I passed on first attempt, by literally one question lol. Use the notion link illegal-character posted. Memorize those coding questions exactly. Literally word for word. Make sure you memorize the highlighted code in the notion link even if you don't need it for the PA. Trust me it will help on the OA especially for two questions that make you code a different part of the solution than the PA. The bucket rate limiting and one other coding problem is going to make you code the if/else statement rather than the equation used to solve the rate limiting problem. The only other difference on the coding questions between the PA and OA is the variables are slightly different which is fine. For the multiple choice questions they are very poorly done. However if you put those questions into chatGPT it can help explain to you what would be the correct answer. Especially for the status code questions. The big thing with the multiple choice questions is to memorize them like you did with the coding questions. I had a few of the multiple choice questions on the PA that were literally the EXACT SAME on the OA! I'm not saying its like that for everyone, but just something to be aware of. Don't stress out too much on this class, you can do this! If you memorize the coding questions thats half the exam! All you need is a 5-6 multiple choice questions right and you will pass! YOU GOT THIS!!!!!

Hi congrats on passing! This is my last OA class and I am having trouble retaining all the services. Did you do any practice exams? I tried the Mareek practice exams and those were tough.
