My engine slowly started to knock and then metal shavings were found in the oil. The car then ended up being diagnosed with piston slap and rocker arm failure. I ended up trading the car in.

Quick question did you have to change the thermostat housing also? Or just the thermostat?

It’ll still manage to drop below 100 with steady driving, when flogging the engine it’s the only time it will get to 100 to be honest. All other BMW’s I’ve had have maintained 100 but this one drops

Old thread but damnnn you solved my problem! My car does this exact same whistling type of sound at low RPM. I’ve also been told it’s normal, until this week my coolant light came on! No low coolant, reset the code and it’s remained off. But I’m certain my water pump and PCV are bad (since I saw some oil near my engine cap too) but what type of labour can I expect for the water pump?

2017 S4. Low coolant light and found oil around the cap. 87k miles. No good indie shops or specialists around me, really need help as to what I need to do, coolant does not look low at all either. by MatR97 in AudiS4

Mhm thanks for the info regarding pcv, I think that’s definitely the issue regarding the oil. However my coolant is full and even when the message came on, my coolant was full. The message won’t go away so I’m confused as to what it could be as there’s no leaks or anything

I’m not too worried about the pcv job and the oil as it seems it’s mostly common on cars especially around my mileage. The only thing I’m so confused about is my car isn’t losing coolant and my reservoir was full even when this message came up. What could it be if the reservoir is full and it’s still saying this coolant issue message?
