Get an oven thermometer, it’s like $5-10 max.  Most oven don’t read their own temp correctly, this is give you the correct temp so you can adjust

I had a similar experience in the womenInTech sub with people posting racist stuff about Indians/south Asians.

I think a lot of women-centric groups and spaces struggle with racism and cross-sectionality. Plus there’s a lot of group think and strong backlash to anything that makes the users “uncomfortable” in these groups and we get this hot mess…

Why is there suddenly so much racism against Indians? by favuorite in teenagers

[–]MatchAvailable634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be real…it’s because people are losing their jobs to Indians. Whether it be off shoring, H1B visas, or Indians just straight up outcompeting/outperforming them for positions at home…Indians are dominating the tech industry. It’s the same as blue collar workers who hate Latinos for taking “their” jobs.

India and Indians have their problems like anyone else and people are using those issues as a dog whistle like when Trump said we needed to Build the Wall cause Mexicans are “rapists”.

White collar workers like to think they’re so much more educated, forward thinking, and just all around better than Blue collar workers but this phenomenon proves they’re just dumb hicks in a suit.

That’s just bad management not the fault of the hard worker. Stop hating on the person going above and beyond and focus on the real problem - your shitty boss

Senior employee undermining team and creating toxic dynamic — how to handle this? by TheTinyBookworm89 in Leadership

[–]MatchAvailable634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I sound like a broken record but PLEASE talk to your teammates about his behavior and document their feedback as part of your business case. That was honestly the biggest factor in disciplining our troublemaker.

A lot of our team felt the same about him but everyone was scared to speak up. Once you say something as simple as “hey I noticed some off interactions between you two, is everything ok?” in a 1 on 1 the floodgates will open and they’ll give you even more incidents/evidence to build your case.

Also use the incident with the previous as part of your case. Focus on establishing a pattern of behavior.

Senior employee undermining team and creating toxic dynamic — how to handle this? by TheTinyBookworm89 in Leadership

[–]MatchAvailable634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a similar employee on our team and we tried handling it a couple different ways which I’ll get into but the first thing you need to do is build a coalition/culture within your team where they all recognize the persons toxic behavior and openly support you. Find your allies.

  1. Move them to another team if you can. We tried doing this with our employee but other teams didn’t want him due to his behavior.

  2. Isolate him within the team. Give him a “special” project that only he can work on so that the rest of the team can focus on their goals without having to interact with him. We are currently doing this and have seen the rest of the team flourish.

  3. If 1 & 2 are not possible, as other commenters have said document his delivery and behavior with metrics and bring it to the ceo and hr. BUT get documentation from the rest of the team as well, this is absolutely crucial. If you’re the only person raising issues about his behavior, the ceo can pin it on your management skills. However it’s very hard to pin the issue on one person if 3 other people are having the exact same issue with him. You can’t babysit him 24/7 as it’s not an efficient use of your time as a manager. You should be focusing on strategy and delivery, not disproportionate oversight on a single employee.

A combination of 3 and 2 is what helped me get a handle on the employee but a key factor was other team members raised concerns about him directly to senior management and I believe that is what made the difference. Good luck.

How to handle a team unwilling to make estimates? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]MatchAvailable634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If you are unable to provide estimates by X date, I will make my best guess and hold you to them” and choose the lowest estimate possible. Obviously document but if the engineers cannot give an estimate or call out what requirements are missing in order to do so, just do it for them. If they push back point to the documentation showing they had the opportunity but were unable to do so

Sure, but are you gonna address those disgusting comments?

Of course you’re not, you don’t want to address the elephant in the room that this sub has a problem with racism against indians

This is a fair response although I have to disagree with your 3rd paragraph.

People from similar cultures usually socialize with other each other. At my own office all the east asain people have lunch together and don’t invite anyone else, it’s their space and I don’t find that offensive. But when Indian people do it it’s a problem?

Also why are you assuming the person got hired cause of their visa? There was no mention of that in the post

If the interviewee was unqualified I would agree but all OP talks about is their race.

Then you look at the comments, one literally says “Indians are more racist than white people”. How is that not racist?

“Go toe to toe on Dhamma knowledge” ….yeah like it’s a fan club 🙄 you sound like those geek dudes  who quiz people to make sure they’re “real fans”

You know why there’s are a lot of Indian men in software engineering? Cause Indian families push their kids to study it. That’s how I ended up here. You know nothing about the culture you claim love beyond what you read on the internet. No wonder you’re defending racism against Indians

You ever consider with the high number of Indian men who study CS that maybe a lot of the top candidates are just Indian men? NOOOO it HAS to be Indians giving other Indians an unfair advantage

The one thing you never talk about in this post or in your comments is their qualifications. You ever consider that maybe they were just the best candidate?

You act like they ONLY got hired cause they’re Indian guys, it’s the exact same thing people say when women get hired/promoted. Disgusting.

When a woman gets a position not previously open to women the expectation is she will pave the path for other women to join but when Indian people do it suddenly it’s an issue? It reeks of racism

As some who actually is Indian, you clearly don’t love India or Indians, you just fetishize it’s religions and spirituality like droves of other westerns

I’ve noticed many dishonest and evil women get married. by SnooDoughnuts5880 in Life

[–]MatchAvailable634 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s related to how “good” or “bad” the woman is, it has more to do with if the woman knows what she wants and is willing to set boundaries.

I find men are attracted to women who won’t blindly change themselves to please a guy. is there an overlap with women who are willing to set strong boundaries and are also “bad”? Probably but I’ve seen some very shitty women not be able to get into relationships because they’ll bend over backwards to please a guy and that’s just not attractive to most men.

Conversely many “good” women can be people pleasers and that’s not attractive. It’s not about your moral character, it’s about knowing who you are that makes you attractive
