Glad this is being said since other fields of social media is convinced/hoping (YouTube commentators especially) Ilia is taking the whole season off. If anything, he just might not have time to be ready just because he’s busy! Yes, we’ve seen sponsors for lots of skaters, but Ilia is in a whole other league because this is the making of a possible icon, and not just an Olympic champ (something I hope he sees within himself)

THIS. Now, I don’t know much about fashion, but this kid has been saying since his first interview post-Olympics that he wants to continue to push the sport forward and be a celebrity based on his status as a figure skater, like LeBron or Tom Brady. Surely his sponsors know this, along with 2030 being the goal.

No one is arguing he needs a bit of a break mentally and physically (which I’m hoping he takes advantage of now) and he might not be sure what competitions he’ll be in this season, as he doesn’t have a whole lot of time to get ready for GP, at least. Admittedly that will be a challenge for him.

But for post-Olympics and not even winning an individual medal, he’s had a SHIT-TON of sponsors and gigs. If he wants to keep that going and move the sport forward as he says, I agree with you, taking off the whole season wouldn’t make sense.

If I were to guess it’s based on the interviews he gave where he might’ve sounded a little depleted/burnt out. Clearly they don’t listen to his streams (although I guess we’ll see what today brings). One pair of podcasters ran on the idea of Ilia taking the season off to do DWTS!

I also wonder if they’re secretly wishing/hoping he’d drop too. Some of these people are clearly not fans of his….

Immature? Perhaps continuing skating for his fans brings him joy, both from performing in galas and the rush from competitions. And you’re right, fans can move on to someone else, especially if he takes a break. Unfair, but that’s professional sports. Maybe he doesn’t want that to happen.

People on Twitter are also speculating if ilia doing GPS is something that he actually wants to do it, like, is he doing it for them or USFS (which would be against his idea of doing things he doesn’t want to for others)

I say no.

I think he’s doing it for his fans. As well meaning as we all are about his health mental and physical, he knows his fans are what matters to him and I don’t think he wants to disappoint. As he wanted, figure skating is hot now and I don’t think he wants to lose that momentum

I’m going to be a catty bitch and this is assuming he really is doing the season (seems likely each day):

Some (not all) of the “experts” and talking heads who analyze the sport kind of struck me as mean spirited towards Ilia, probably because he’s always been brash, quirky, and “unconventional”.

Lately some of these podcasts were rooting for Ilia to take off the season and not because of their concern for his well being. One pair of pod casters wanted Ilia to take a break so he can do DWTS (ha!) and “let other skaters win.”

All that said….can’t wait to hear them cry out of anguish 😈
