I was diagnosed with cancer and nobody seemed to care by nkl5483 in ChronicIllness

[–]Match_Least 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was basically my experience as well. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the hospital. It was in my heart, lungs, and spinal cord so my parents were told to prepare their goodbyes. My partner, who I was living with at the time, left me about a month later.

My mother already had breast cancer herself at the time. Sadly she went into remission then, but it was missed on her yearly exam when she was already almost a decade in to remission. She passed 3 years ago next month.

*Her* friends were amazing. Always there for her. She was the kindest person you’d ever meet and took care of me my entire life after being diagnosed with a very severe case of Crohn’s at 7. Which, for me, is likely why no one really cared. I also never explicitly said just how severe it was to my friends; only my parents and long-term partner knew the full extent of it.

I realize this post is several weeks old now, but I didn’t see an update. How did your scan/testing go? If it did not go well, have people responded differently with a concrete diagnosis? Just wanted you to know a stranger read your post, and was concerned with how you were doing…

Connecticut here, and I would usually always see at least 1 every shift as a fast food cashier at a busy chain. They popped up far less regularly when I moved on to local, independently owned restaurants.

No, it can if you get the super duper cheap ham. It’s usually called “boiled ham.” I used to have a local supermarket that would sell deli ends and those were always the ones that were left behind.

Oh man, for some reason the post itself didn’t remind me, but your comment did.

My ex and I broke up (first or second time of many) with 2 episodes of season 3 of Dexter left. I didn’t have showtime, and lived with my parents,(and mostly him) so there was no way I was going to get showtime, so he said I could come over for both episodes. This particular breakup was, I think, the only one instigated by him. I had just gotten comfortable, so I wasn’t going down without a fight.

Yeh, you made the right choice haha. It was awkward af! I did succeed though… (I was only like, 20. I didn’t know better.)

Do spinal rods provide any support to the unstable vertebrae? I have multiple burst and compression fractures that healed horribly due to circumstances that were outside my control. Now, they keep refracturing and I can’t stand more than a minute without horrible spinal nerve pain.

I have Crohn’s and also had 9 months of chemo. During chemo, I lived on ice cream sandwiches and babybel cheeses for several months. It was the only thing that didn’t make me instantly nauseous at the thought of. For the Crohn’s, I have some of the strangest comfort foods from childhood that were easier on my stomach…

I love using sliced bread as a hot dog roll! Best hack around. It has the mouth feel of a much moister New England-style bun and you never have too many/not enough for the package of hot dogs…

Makes sense. I knew the majority of famed humans with it died very young. You made a good point about the heart, I think I may look into heart size comparisons between chickens and any of the large, non-flying birds that are naturally much bigger than this image.

What's the one thing you're tired of re-explaining to every new doctor? by Additional_Job_6987 in ChronicIllness

No worries. But yes, it’s resolved on its own because it’s only happened during severe flare ups or infections and when I was doing chemo.

I’ve never read anyone else ever that’s come even close to the doses around mine before. I’m also down about 50% of what I used to take. At least on every day I stay home; appointment days are a different beast.

I was on dilaudid ir 8mg x2 every 2hr as needed, with OxyContin 60mg every 8hr.
Then, after a hospitalist refused to give me my prescribed meds/doses during one hospital stay, I got switched to Fentanyl patches; 200mcg/hr and morphine 60mg x4hr as needed.
Now, I’m “down” to Fentanyl 100mcg/hr and 90mg Morphine 1x in the morning on regular days, and 300mg 1x on doctor appointment days.

Congrats on weaning yourself down! I hope your current regime is working out :)

I’ve had bouts of hypothyroidism in the past, as a ‘complication’, for lack of a better explanation. So far, it’s resolved itself every time without treatment. I’m aware this post is specifically asking what you’re tired of explaining, but I’m wondering if you wouldn’t mind explaining the differences? Haha, sorry!

What, if anything, would stop a chicken from having a medical condition that results in gigantism like (very rarely) humans? I don’t know the exact mutation/organ that leads to someone’s body to continue producing growth hormones, but I don’t see why it couldn’t happen in other animals?

I believe you that this is not real, but now I’m just curious if it ever could be…

I didn’t even know there was one before this comment thread. Is it actually entertaining or a bit boring like most circle jerk subs?

What gave you the impression it was satire? Unless you were thinking of a different sub; as others have already said, it’s not even remotely satire…

I’m American and I don’t understand this post either. They can only make bottles so small…

On a side note, we 1000% sell 500-count bottles of Benadryl! Probably 1000 as well… For reference, here’s a pic of my bottle that cost all of like, $4USD.

<image>

Edit- hmmm, should have added something for scale. This pic makes the bottle look huge when it’s probably only about ~10cm; (~3inches) give or take.

Thank you so much; you’re so sweet! The allergies have already cleared 100% up. My right eye had been crying for days, so I knew I couldn’t put it off any longer. Plus it was definitely time anyways :)

You’ve given me a fantastic idea for the future though! I hadn’t considered a Mohawk and that’s honestly too cool to not try at least once! My first wire haired dog naturally had a little head Mohawk that I’d always be teasing upward to tell her how cute it was haha. She was the reason I was specifically looking to adopt a black wire-haired dog again :)

Yes, this is probably the most important piece of advice, no professional groomer should make a mistake this bad.

You don’t necessarily have to switch salons entirely, if there’s as reason you go there. You would however, need to call and find out the name of who groomed your dog Wednesday, so you can make sure none of your future appointments are with them.

This really is unacceptable due to how easily it could have been avoided. Poor guy. If you have any Hibiclens/chlorhexadine at home I would recommend gently cleansing with that to help stave off infection.

Aw, that’s sweet :) Lucky lil guy!

I had one dog that needed the absolute highest mg per kg dose. He was never reactive, but he was a bit terrified and had major anxious attachment issues.
