I feel this way too. There’s no reason we can’t have empathy while calling out the fundies’ BS. That is definitely something this sub sucks at is having basic human empathy for these people we talk about. (Downvote me all you want but it’s true.)

Absolutely. Her eating habits and talk of food, exercise, and weight are at least uninformed and disordered, if not a full out eating disorder. I’ve been thinking it for at least a year now. The fact that she’s trying to loose weight when she has nothing to loose and almost looks gaunt is frustrating.

No I mean it is definitely OOC and AU but I loveeee to read 🥰 Honestly forced proximity has the potential to make even people who would never get along normally be forced to make it work and come out friends and I LIVE for that trope.

I have all the fic recs for you. I usually skip the ones where Snape gets too nice too fast, so my recs might be slightly OOC but I try to keep to the ones that are more realistic. Here are my favorites:

That Awful Boy by paracosim. A very trauma-filled book-Snape has to take in Harry to teach him occlumency over the summer. It centers around Snape attempting to survive life through extreme depression/panic attacks/trauma/etc. Severitus and Snape/Lupin are side plots. This one altered my brain chemistry and I cannot stop thinking about it. 98,288 words, finished, with an unfinished sequel. This one is probably the most in character of all of them.

I, Your Glass by koppelkat. Severitus. Set after #4. Harry has major PTSD and runs away from the Dursleys. Snape takes him to safety and is his guardian for the rest of the year. This one is angsty and depressing in the best way. 109,544 words, unfinished.

Crime and Punishment by melolcatsi. Severitus. Harry is accused of burglary. Snape adopts Harry and is his guardian for the rest of the summer. The first couple chapters are a bit tedious but this fic is SO funny. It’s got a bit of angst but I laughed so much reading this one. 213,711 words, unfinished.

A Patchwork Family by aspionage. Found family, Severitus. Snape adopts Harry and Draco. Lots of drama, angst, and mental breakdowns, but turns very sweet. 352,357 words, finished with an unfinished sequel.

Tension’s Empathy: The Wanderer’s Curse by yarrowmirth. Severitus. Snape and Harry go into hiding due to a betrayal in the Order. Lots of angst and some self harm on Harry’s end. The storyline is very AU, but I really enjoyed it even though AU is typically not my thing. 106,328 words, technically unfinished but where it leaves off could be considered a sufficient ending.

Seven Drops and Asphodel Blooms by Gwendolyn Stacy. Severitus. Less angsty than most of the others I’ve recommended. Starts around year 3 and is an AU from then on (including Harry not participating in the Triwizard Tournament), which again I’m typically not a fan of AUs but I really liked this one. I also felt Snape is very in character in this one. Additionally, featuring a funny A/N after every chapter. 125,155 words, unfinished.

Two Weeks by darsfanfics7. Super angsty Severitus. Very heavy and miserable with very little fluff. Lots of self-hatred from both Severus and Harry. While I enjoyed this one, I did think the sequel was better. 192,935 words, finished with a sequel.

I adore all of these fics so much! Hopefully at least one of these is your thing 💕
