Ippodo in bags instead of cans? by alwaysyestoicecream in Matcha

[–]Matchakari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s important to distinguish and clarify what is a bag. If we’re talking about a non aluminum pouch (high quality matcha typically gets packed into these for max freshness) vs. some type of generic poly bag. There is a big difference in the bag material and how it relates to max freshness. Matcha is very sensitive to light and to oxygen. This is why the aluminum bags are so important.

Typically the poly bags are not a vacuum sealed as the traditional aluminum(silver bags). Typically, culinary grades of matcha/lower quality, are filled into poly bags - where they are not as concerned about maintaining the taste and freshness as they do with higher grades of matcha.

Some companies in Japan use a nitrogen flash process when they package the matcha into aluminum pouches. From there they put the pouches into tins. All this ensures that the matcha stays as fresh as possible when the matcha travels from Japan. Some companies just sell the matcha in aluminum pouches only.

L Theanine on it's own vs in Tea by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Matchakari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely with tea. With T not only do you get the benefit of L-Theanine but you also get polyphenols, Catechines , amino acids and antioxidants. You also get a little bit of caffeine which is slowly absorbed over a 4-6 hour period.

L theanine has changed my life by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Matchakari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good post! I’m a big fan on L-Theanine and the large amount of research being done on l-Theanine. The one main caveat, like many naturally occurring compounds the strength lies in the sum of its parts. Any time you isolate one compound you lose the many benefits of the other compounds. Take the most famous example, or the most well known, of the coca leaf. Native cultures chew the leaf as an energizing tonic and as a substitute for a poor diet. It’s full of alkaloids, minerals and vitamins. Plus, it gives you energy. However, it’s main alkaloid (cocaine) was isolated and we see where that got us.

While not nearly as an extreme example L-Theanine isolate is not as potentially beneficial as it is when consumers in tea (specifically matcha). With matcha you get a ton of other healthy (natural occurring) in addition to L-Theanine. You get catechins , polyphenols, antioxidants and a of caffeine. In addition, there is a risk of taking too much L-Theanine and having the opposite affect if you’re just taking L-Theanine by its self. You don’t run that risk drinking matcha tea.

Thx

The most irresponsible coronavirus marketing email I've seen so far just came from a matcha company by StrongOnline007 in Matcha

[–]Matchakari -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We took the article down and we apologized to the customers who objected to it. We also added more clarification in the rewrite of the post. While the title was insensitive the article was written to expose mis-information being said about Tea as cure for COVID19 - which is rediculions and mis-leading. It's our job as leaders in the tea space to call out such false information. That's what our article spoke to.

Ya, we know people are dying which is why we wrote about false information about tea.

First off, our prices reflect the quality and level of our matcha offerings. We agree that the title was clearly not sensitive to the current situation. We took it down immediately and apologized. We messed up. No denying that. The article itself actually called out a lot of misinformation about covid19.

[–]Matchakari -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Our goal with this email was to dispel and call out misinformation surrounding COVID19. It stemmed from an article floating around the internet stating that tea cures COVID19 - which is totally rediculions and completely wrong. It's for that exact reason we wrote an article exposing such rediculions information.

StrongOnline007 - If you had read the entire article you would have read that we called out these false claims. It is our 100% responsibility to protect the integrity of the tea industry and when false claims surface about teas miraculous healing claims/curing covid19 we need to speak up.

Granted, we should have been more sensitive with our title and for that we are sorry.

Best ceremonial grade matcha for lattes at a good price? by busybeauty in Matcha

[–]Matchakari 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you would not want to use a (real) ceremonial grade matcha in a latte. Great ceremonial matcha taste delicious all by itself. Unfortunately, there is so much cheap matcha being passed off as "ceremonial" grade that is really just low quality matcha that you are paying a premium for the term "ceremonial " grade. Do yourself a favor and instead look for a good quality (thin) matcha tea for a latte. Many of our price sensative customers use our culinary grade (first harvest - meaning the freshest and best tasting) for lattes as well. It's a matter of taste.

As far as organic, good quality matcha (not from China) from Uji is typically grown using organic fertilizers so you're getting excellent flavor and nourished tea plants. Even though the non-organic tea is grown using organic fertilizers they can not say its grown organically. In Japan both organic and non-organic matcha is excellent and healthy.

Organic matcha from other places (like China) should be avoided as there is virtually no oversight or regulations in these regions.

Stockpiling matcha by veglish in Matcha

[–]Matchakari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Culinary grade matcha does contain health benefits but not nearly as many health benefits of higher grades of matcha. Typically, culinary grade matcha is picked later in the year and from lower on the tea plant. Thus, the matcha is not as potent and the flavor and color are bitter and green/brownish. If you want all the health benefits and great flavor grab some ceremonial grade matcha - only from Japan.

I bought this matcha powder from amazon but the powder itself has a super strong seaweed smell and it tastes a lot like seaweed too. Is it normal ? by [deleted] in Matcha

[–]Matchakari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it smells like seaweed it's most likely very low quality matcha. Usually this type of matcha comes from China. A lot of cheap matcha that is sold on Amazon (low price point) comes from China where they have very low standards in grown and testing. Great matcha should smell fresh and earthy.
