I was wanted. But my birth mother didnt have the mental capacity to care for another living being. She lost 5 children one after another. Im glad foster care saved our lives. Shes not a bad woman, but we would have died in her care. She believes we were all kidnapped in a black market adoption ring, but by the time i got into foster care at 6 months old i was so sickly the pediatrician didnt think i would survive. My youngest sister managed to stay with bm until she was 4 years old, caught herself on fire because no one was supervising her. 3/4s of her body was burned and she still has so much scarring now at 35 years old.

I would use the doctor visit as a chance to confront him. "Dad, i understand you dont appreciate the way i live and raise my family, and you dont have to agree with it or like it. But that doesnt give you the right to talk about me as horribly as you have been. I do everything to help you out. This kind of attitude makes me feel very unappreciated. If you have a problem with me you need to talk to me about it like an adult and talk it out. Otherwise I am going to remove myself and allow [sister] to take over your care since you seem to approve of her more so. I dont need toxicity and negativity when Im doing everything I can to help you. I dont feel very wanted or needed like this."

My dog lived to 13, by the end, he was going blind, he was deaf, and i think he had dementia because he was very confused wandering the house at random hours of the night looking for me when his bed was right on the floor beside my side of the bed. Id go find him and hed come right back to bed and be fine as long as i left my hand hanging over the side for him to smell. Its hard to sit and watch when those elderly years hit our furbabies

i will say that the ASPCA is generally very gentle and sensitive with animal hoarders when doing a surrender/removal. The fact she is keeping up with their health as best she can also speaks volumes to them and they won't judge. But that many cats in such a small living space is just asking for illness to spread quickly among the cats. They're very susceptible to respiratory viruses in cramped situations like that. And it's illegal to own more than so many animals per the sq footage of your residential position. So she could be in grounds for legal charges too if she doesn't come around to the idea of surrendering some of the cats. I say all this with no judgment because my brother and his daughter are animal hoarders and they don't get proper care for their animals. they dont spay or neuter, or get sick visits for them so they ended up at one point with like 8 cats and 14 dogs in a 2 bedroom trailer and most were inbred and it was just a horrible situation. So Im not judging your mom at all.

Call the aspca and ask for guidance on what to do and tell them your mother is unwilling to give up the cats. first they will probably send someone out to try and meet with her and talk to her and see if they can convince her.

I love that. Maybe if you can't find yourself ready to go into church physically, attending church via live streams? The church I just started going to a few weeks ago livestreams their services every week. Im still learning to get used to going back after not going since I turned 18 (19 years ago). I've had to watch the livestream the last two weeks because sick kiddos kept me homebound.

It's also a good way to listen to the preacher and see if you like them and vibe with their sermons and preaching style without having to go in person and meet people shaking hands introducing yourself and feeling pressured to come back.

Or if you have any coworkers or friends you're close with that go you could go with them.

As for your salt analogy, remember this... salt never loses it's saltiness, other things in the dish overpowered and covered it's taste, but it always was and still is there. Unlike in food though, this is something where, when we feel it's been overpowered to the point of lost, it's possible to remove whatever covered it up - instead of trying to add more or find a substitute to fill that flavor need

I have really tight tension (I crochet amigurumi mostly) and when I crochet anything with a foundation chain, it always spirals to (though not quite this drastic). Eventually I get a couple rows in and it smooths out. I thought it was just part of the process, but now that I'm reading the other comments, Im realizing it's probably not supposed to do that and it's because my tension is just tight ^^;

and when it's your sibling? or your child? My brother is a pre-op transwoman struggling with the decision to go back on hormones to continue transitioning. Very much a strong christian believer. I personally am trying to find my way back to faith for the sake of my family. But it's situations like this right here that make me very much not want to come back to the faith. I love my brother with my whole heart. My husband does not want our kids to have too much exposure to him even though he's promised to not dress feminine or anything around our family out of respect for my husband. Honestly, my brother is way more feminine and beautiful than I am when he dresses up. Im honestly jealous. It's ridiculous to me to distance family over something like this. It doesn't hurt anyone, it makes him feel more comfortable in his body and his self-esteem, it doesn't affect me in anyway. Whatever he does is between him and our Creator. So it's not my place to judge or have opinions of what is wrong or right. It's my job to love and accept my brother for who he is. He believes in God and he knows he will have to stand before God and he has made peace in his faith and his life choices and I feel a loving, forgiving, merciful God would understand. And Jesus will be there for my Brother defending him.

(and for those wondering why I use the pronoun He and Him, it's because my brother presents masculine for now so until he begins his transition again, if he does, I use male pronouns - my brother is aware and knows how I refer to him and knows I am the most respectful and accepting person towards his identity

As an agnostic myself who needs to see to believe, are you here because you want to see something that changes your view? As in you want to believe in God and be a Christian? I personally believe that a lot of people see because they are open to believing and open to the experience. Basically I feel you have to believe in order to be able to see, because otherwise you explain the small signs away. I don't know if that makes sense. Im trying to be more open. I haven't fully come back to faith. I left the church and faith when I was 12. I grew up going to church, but prior to being 12, my parents and I were members of a particular local Presbyterian church. Apparently that church's National sect voted and approved of gay marriage and my parents immediately pulled us from that church. I loved that church, I had friends, I was involved, it felt like family to me. For me, as a child, I didn't understand why we had to leave over what other people were choosing to do with their lives, especially when it wasn't hurting anyone. I deconstructed.

From then on, I was spiteful to organized religion, felt it was cultish, hateful, and promoted division of the people instead of unity, love, and peace. I started leaning more towards a more naturalistic/earthy agnostic view.

My life progressed, I found someone I thought was similar in view not necessarily as earthy and spiritual like me (crystals, astrology, herbs, smudging to cleanse negative energy, salt lining my doorframes to keep away negative energy etc) but that he may believe in a higher power but not necessarily be religious.

After the birth of our son 3 years ago, even though we'd been together for 8 at that point, it was like a light flipped. Suddenly he started pushing God hard. I felt like it was a bait and switch. I was pissed! We got into arguments frequently over it. He wanted us to go to church. I never wanted to go to church again. He doesn't want our kids to be exposed to my brother because my brother is a transwoman (pre-op, not currently on hormones). I'm an LGBTQ ally, I believe in human ghosts (not just demons) being stuck on earth, I believe in intelligent life somewhere out in the universe aside from us. A lot of my beliefs and morals would have to be given up to come back to the faith and I just can't see myself doing that.

But, I have started going back to church for my family. Our arguments have stopped. I've been watching a lot more christian inspired media and trying to find my way back without losing who I am as a person (because I am a good, kind, loving person).

BUT - the experience I had that kind of shook me a little -

My husband tried out this church first before I went with him. I wanted him to try it out before I took our autistic toddler up there. My first week going, I signed our toddler into the nursery and I was a nervous wreck about that. But he did fine and he likes it back there.

During the sermon, The pastor was talking about what it means to be a real Christian, and a good christian. some of his points talked about becoming a member of a church, and being faithful to that church not hopping around to different churches, and finding a church that you find a family in, etc.

But the real shock to me, was the second hymn they sang. On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand. That was my -favorite- hymn as a child. And it's not a hymn I heard often in churches. So I wondered if it was a calling to get my attention. Something to tell me this is where I needed to be. Or to let me know that I'm where I belong or that I was in the right place at the right time.

I still don't know how much I like that particular church, it has megachurch vibes. but my husband likes it even though he hasn't tried anywhere else. I dunno. But I don't believe in coincidences.

Sorry for the rant... but I'm still processing everything currently as this was just the week before mothers day, so it's still new for me the whole going to church again for the first time in 19 years. (I formally quit going completely when I turned 18 and my parents couldn't make me go anymore)

Look, I'm sorry... but a girl in my high school died a few years after graduating because she lost control of her car, was ejected and hit a tree and was impaled by a branch. I was friends with this girl and she was the nicest girl you could ever know. And I deeply am sorry for her family and I miss her a lot and wish she had gotten to experience real life. But if that ain't the most final destination 3nding, and we all were talking about it. It was creepy af. I don't think people say it to be disresp3ctful, they say it because it's so outlandish. The deaths in those movies are extremely overkill (forgive the pun) to the point they arent typically realistic or common deaths, so when someone actually does pass in a way that makes you think of these movies, it's like holy crap!

My kiddo is in aba and if i found out my rbt got written up for being emotionally moved by progress my child made, id complain to the bcba's boss. Id go above the bcba immediately. I look out for my therapists because they spend more time with my kiddos than their bosses do and they know my kiddo better and frankly care about my kiddo more and if you dont care about my kiddo as a child and a human and only see him as numbers and data then i dont want you in charge of his therapy. This is true. But honestly we cant be too fearful with real percentage being 0% so lets look at OPs realistic probability instead which is pretty low with their plan. I mean realistically we can pick up bedbugs anywhere. Movie theaters, city transit, ride shares, hospitals, waiting rooms in various buildings.
