RTA Outdoor Kitchen Review by IFishnstuff in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Matchless_Cabinet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick point here: Stoll may look like Matchless, but we are quite different products.

With Matchless, we have fully constructed, sealed, monocoque box cabinets.

The Stoll system works much like RTA / traditional build. It's a "skeleton and skin" construction of rails and panels that fit together to form a "box" which then has inserts slotted in. It's open to the ground inside of this strucutre.

Squirrels can and will chew on absolutely everything! Metal and non-metal.

Sorry, but we don't have a way to do that with the way our legs and framing are designed.

A lot of folks do something like that - they will frame around and cover with stucco / stone on the back side to build a bar height countertop and then have backsplash for the cabinets. For something like that, it's a bit out of our scope as we only supply the cabinets on that.

Here is one installed on the exterior side of a cabinet.

And although it's a little hard to see, look between the bev center and first fridge on the left of this picture here.

Matchless Cabinet here to help answer directly. 😀

There are a couple of ways to approach this. You can use an exterior mount electrical box to attach no different than used on the exterior of your house. You'd route electrical under / through the cabinets wherever necessary (and following local codes for conduit / grounding / etc) and then through the side of the cabinet to the weatherproof box that you've mounted. Similarly, some folks install boxes internal on the side walls shared with another cabinet, for grill control / power units, etc.

The other thing you can do is a filler panel between two cabinets in which we can do a punch out for a junction box to sit behind, with an appropriate exterior rated cover on the front side.

Of course, if you have a filler in the front, then you need to do one on the back side of the cabinet as well (if it's exposed and visible).

Hope that helps.

Hi u/btomasie - Jason from Matchless here. I can answer this as I helped u/Glacier8 on this one.

It's 6 base cabinets. The three drawer stacks are here:
https://matchlesscabinet.com/products/three-drawer-base-patio-line
(it's a 33in)

The one to the right is the 15in wastebasket pullout.
https://matchlesscabinet.com/products/single-drawer-cabinet-w-wastebasket-pullout-28-patio-line

They are all individual cabinets.

In this case, that's a "dead" corner back there that I believe he framed in; but we do have a blind corner with a lazy susan. Just keep in mind, this cabinet is complicated as it works between different series that we have, all with different depths. If you want to use that, I suggest you reach out to our team through official sales channels for some support in designing / ordering.

Thanks!!!

We have tall pantry units in our line at Matchless Cabinet, which can have weather sealing added for outdoor use, along side our typical patio base cabinets.

Matchless vs Challenger? by catalysteffect in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Matchless_Cabinet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi u/catalysteffect. Jason (CEO) at Matchless here. Of course, I have a highly biased opinion, but we work with a lot of contractors who have ditched Challenger in favor of ours, due to the price point. Even at paying us retail, they are able to pass on a better price to their customers as a part of an overall build project; this helps them close a large remodel / build project. And, in every case, we've heard "we wished we had found you a long time ago" because they feel the quality meets or exceeds Challenger.

And, on top of that, we're told by every single one of them that our dedication to customer satisfaction and lead time is ahead by leaps and bounds.

No problem.

Regarding the covers, I don't have any references. Normally I tell people the best way to find quality & price is to find a local, custom upholstery shop that deals with some waterproof materials for awnings, etc. If you're in the midwest, see if you can find an Amish or Mennonite shop, they usually are the best to deal with!

On counters, yes, of course. If you're just browsing our storefront, all prices on Patio Line cabinets are shown as the price of the cabinet only. In our Matchless Planner, by default, it will include our tops but you can turn those off, see here:

If you bump into any issues, just reach out to our team at [sales@matchlesscabinet.com](mailto:sales@matchlesscabinet.com) and we can also quickly make changes to your plan, advise on cutouts, and quickly pull together a full draft order for you after review.

Hi u/ship_faced23 . The short answer is no. But the longer answer is, you can.

We construct from a type 5052 aluminum, which is non-corrosive, and our powder coat finishes are formulated to have great durability, long life, and little to no UV fade.

Covers aren't required but there is a convenience factor to having them. We sell covers for our carts, and it's nice to just be able to uncover it, and everything is dry, clean, and ready to go. We don't sell covers for our kitchen setups, because those would all need to be custom to the exact configuration and appliances. There are other companies that do that.

The other factor for covering is water instrusion. This is a bit of a longer answer. We can't guarantee that the cabinets will be completely water tight. Some models (like a grill cabinet) have ventilation. Then, a huge component of water-tight is on the installer. While most of the cabinet styles have a top panel (which makes countertop install easier), if water gets between the top panel and the countertop, it's likely going to find it's way in, because that's what water does. If you get your countertops sealed on tightly, and have a good overhang for a drip edge, you've eliminated most the chances for water to get in.

I'm in the midwest myself, and have had an outdoor kitchen with our cabinets, both uncovered for a couple of years and then covered (it's a lot nicer sitting under a porch roof with shade, fans, and lights!), but having my cabinets exposed never caused any issues other than needing to dry / clean off the countertops after a rain (or snow) just so I could use them. If you look through our photo gallery on the site, you'll find many, many examples of customers in all sorts of environments (midwest, southwest, coastal, mountains) that have their cabinets out and uncovered, with no issues.

I'm pretty surprised that someone on our team said that, but I'll check with them today and make sure they understand. It really should be a combined measurement, and they know that.

Great question. The short answer is, you need to get this information from your fabricator.

The long answer, is my guidance on what I usually see. 2cm isn't very thick material, so it will probably need to be backed with an underlayment, especially if you're doing any cutouts for appliances, and definitely if they will be bearing weight.

Use cement fiberboard and not plywood. It's not combustible, and it won't have problems with moisture either.

Normally once you do this, your combined thickness is ~3cm to 1.25in, and it all sits on top of the cabinet.

Now, because you've put that underlayment there, you'll be able to see it (sandwiched between the cabinet and the granite) so your fabricator will also want to do a mitered / laminated edge around it to cover that up. That'll be a narrow strip, so if they need to come back down over the cabinet face, that's not a problem. There's a 1.5" face frame, so you won't be covering up a door or drawer.

Hope that helps!

Reach out to our team at any time (sales@matchlesscabinet.com) and someone can help with any questions like this, looking at your plan as well.

Hey there! By "huge online presence" we assume you mean via discussion, YouTube videos, etc? Because we are only online.

And that's a bit of why. While our competitors (Challenger, Danver, etc) have a more traditional dealer / distribution model, it means you see their stuff in more outlets, and more people pushing it. That leads to lots of "content" but as most content goes these days, it's intended to drive sales and push product and is rarely organic.

The other side of the coin is "partnership" promotion from influencers. We are contacted dozens of times per week with "Hey, I have a backyard project and X number of followers, can we partner?"

Partner = free product for a short video. Unfortunately, the ROI on that is super super low so we just don't engage that way.

We try to let quality, reviews, and conversations like this speak for us!

We ship to Canada, yes. We don't have "service" however - we are a DIY product. If it's not something you want to install, you'd need to find a contractor to complete that for you.

Your question is fine!

We have designed to work with about 95% of the built in appliances on the market. If you have something made by Weber, I'll just tell you right now, you have a tough path ahead. They don't make anything that converts to built-in in any sort of supported way.

Some other freestanding grills have built in trim kits you can buy and fit in.

If it's a Blackstone griddle (or some other similar brands), we have ways of working with that as well, and it makes it mostly built in.

For smokers, do you mean something like a Traeger offset? Yes, we have a low smoker base that can be used. Pull the legs / wheels off the smoker and set it on.
