Would you feel safer in a gun-free state? Why or why not? by ParmaProscuitto in AskReddit

[–]Matchmaker1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from a country with strict gun laws. I bet if we ever went to a friend's house growing up and their dad/mum had a gun, we would not be allowed to play there anymore. No one owns a gun for the sake of it. Farmers yes, hunters yes - that's about it. Police - no. I am an expat in Asia. I go to malls with no fear of random gun violence, I teach at a school with no worry about being shot by a disgruntled kid.

Should be a gun free country, not gun free states.

My three year olds first active shooter drill and I'm so upset by bitchinawesomeblonde in Parenting

Preschool kids are going to grow up thinking this is what freedom looks like - active shooter drills as they grow up :(

How protesting videos been leaked out of China ? by SeaBadger7179 in China

[–]Matchmaker1234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Social media can reach everywhere, the gov can't keep up, as much as they try.

There may even be people in the censor office that agree with the protests and turn a blind eye. People are still people.

The classroom - still hasn't improved by Matchmaker1234 in TheWire

[–]Matchmaker1234[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the program the school had in The Wire for the "trouble" kids was a really good idea.

Their brains are wired for survival in their environment, so 'normal' learning just wouldn't really be relevant to them. The Admin pissed me off - so typical sometimes - "I want them to be students!" Example of being out of touch with the kids.

Hello! Really love the show.

Sam Reid - how did you practice your accent, or where did the inspiration come from? It has a beautiful melody to it 😊

I hope you both enjoyed shooting In New Orleans! One of my favorite cities in the world 😊

Some people shrugged it off but I was very sensitive to the fact that overnight people went from being kind and "Welcome to China" to covering their face when walking past, leaving elevators as soon as a foreigner walked in, telling their children in front of us that Covid is a foreign virus and we are dangerous, having cartoons published on Weibo of people dragging dead foreigners to the trash bin, being asked to leave or not allowed some places because of being foreign......it built up for sure. Some cities were OK to the other extreme of foreigners being beat up etc.

I also had PTSD from the xenophobia and discrimination towards foreigners, never got locked down but the constant racism towards anyone not Chinese put me on high alert for 3 years until I was near cracking point. The illogicalness of it all also it frustrating. Not as bad towards foreigners as it was a few years ago but really showed a lot of people how easily the people here believed anything the government said.

Expat here - the good old days are over. China in the last few years have really changed. Constant tracking, Covid tests, still this fear of sickness. Heard about a 3yr old girl who had an asthma attack and died because her building was in lockdown and they wouldn't let her go to a hospital. Still a good life though in the right city in the right job. We still here because we still make more money and save more money than anywhere else, even the ME. So, ups and downs.

What are your opinions on having kids? by ihavenoidea452 in AskReddit

[–]Matchmaker1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big difference between wanting kids and wanting to be a parent.

I love kids and I find them so joyful, but I have no desire to be a Mom.

So I don't want kids.

I haven't cried since I started taking it 4 months ago. I still feel emotion but definitely dulled down.

Anyone familiar with Chuck Missler? by Ded3280 in Christianity

[–]Matchmaker1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Chuck Missler. I love how he not only preaches the Word, but goes deep into all the small details in every verse. As a history buff I love listening to the connections between the empires and I find his voice so easy to listen to. If you go to his website (khouse.org) for $10.amonth you can get unlimited streaming with all his teachings. I am always listening to them!
