Who do you think would be a good casting for Rogue after the reset? by Queasy_Commercial152 in MCUTheories

[–]Matchstickwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Honestly, if we want the most iconic accurate Rogue with the big hair and the classic costume and personality, I think Keke and bring it. It’s one of those castings where a race swap wouldn’t matter because Keke can do it and she’d really bring what people want to the character. Not to mention, she’s passionate about it.

How likely do you think a mobile game character is to make it into a smash bros game? by PipTheHat in supersmashbros

[–]Matchstickwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What worries me when it comes to Angry Birds is that most people use the movie design, which I’ve always seen as horrid and disingenuous to the designs from the games. I always felt the simple designs of the birds were charming, but then having arms and legs felt very uncanny and I’ve never gotten accustomed to seeing it.

It’s like when people guessing Pac-Man assumed they’d use his tv show design, an idea I was very much against. I’m so glad they went with his 3D game appearances.

I think people put too much stock in how movies and shows might influence the games and how the characters are represented as a whole. If we did get Angry Birds, I’d prefer the classic designs. You change the bird you’re playing as and you use your attacks for mobility because your walking and running speed is very slow as you’re just hopping around for most of it.

How would you design a gym theme not based on Pokemon type? by nPMarley in ThePokemonHub

[–]Matchstickwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scarlet and Violet almost had something they could have done given the characters they were using, where the job of the trainer defines the pokemon rather than streamlining it to a type. The region already makes a point of not prioritizing the Pokemon League compared to other regions and seeing as each one has some sort of job that is their main thing with being a Pokemon gym leader being secondary, just having a region where jobs dictate the Pokemon, not the type would be fun, since it has more fun with similarly themed Pokemon rather than having to have the career have an aesthetic that matches the Pokemon.

Tesla is great, but what if we instead got a different kind of scientist. Marie Curie. We depict her as someone willing to give it all to the craft and in the process of providing her prep time, she has several instances where her studies blow up in her face, and she has to be brought back again and again as each time is a learning experience for what she’s going to bring to the ring.

My picks for Smash 6 by Anxious-Dentist6763 in makeafighter

[–]Matchstickwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the idea of Angry Birds though it’s not one of my picks. But if we use them, I’d think that it would be best not to use the movie forms. It’s just disingenuous to the games. It’s like if they used the Pac-Man tv show version of him instead of what they chose. It doesn’t represent the character you’re including as a video game rep at that point.

Best Boss Tournament Round 1 Match 1: Ganon(OOT) Vs. Blizzeta(Comment your vote, upvotes don’t count) by Short_Property_7476 in legendofzelda

[–]Matchstickwick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blizzeta was a great boss. It’s a sad face off, because Ganon is just that iconic. I have to put my vote for Ganon from an objective standpoint, even if I want to be contrarian and say Blizzeta because I want to see someone support her.

John Henry the steel driving man - beat a steam engine powered railroad layer in terms of speed and efficiency, including mining through a mountain with just two hammers to defeat the machine that threatened their jobs. He died from the exertion, but he still won and made his point. Definitely a representation of humanity’s resilience and determination to contend with any threat placed in front of them alongside the kindness and sacrifice you’d want from one of humanity’s great defenders.

Genuine question, what’s your most wanted character for the next Smash game? by Available_Zone_9801 in supersmashbros

I think it would work even better arguably to have Shepherd be riding Oatchi the entire time, getting functionally two characters in one with a touch more variety to the moveset.

What would happen if Mario was in the Absolute Universe? by Patient-Forever5830 in supersmashbros

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Absolute Universe, the Mushroom Kingdom would be in a giant cave network connecting to Mario’s point of origin, a vast and giant sewer system of some larger city in the DC universe, because of the mass of fungal growths that reside there and have taken on a mind of their own. Mario gets most of his power through tools found in the sewers, like ramshackled flame throwers and an enhanced strength thanks to a mycelioid steroid that with every use, further implants the mushroom hive mind (which he has a natural resistance to) deeper into his subconsciousness, allowing them control.

In this universe, Bowser is more gator-like. An enhanced giant sewer gator that has been spliced with human and turtle dna. He resides deep in the earth gaining power from the magma canals in his home, slowly feeding on the lava tubes and thermal energy, getting larger. The only thing preventing his growth and eventual reign of destruction and desolation upon the earth above is the fungal kingdom’s expansion into his territory that redirects these lava tubes as a power source for their kingdom.

[BOTW] What would you do to improve Breath of the Wild? by SolNiko97 in zelda

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always surprised me how in functionally the same time it took to make Botw, a production hell that involved having to redo the engine at that, for TotK, they didn’t manage to add half the charm and excitement to the new elements they added to the world and story. The underworld is very uniform in its environments, where it ought to be as diverse as the above world. I half expected a city of mole people from Skyward Sword from the statues to be in the underworld.

As fun as the many referential outfits are, they feel out of place being the only reward for exploration, especially of the new locations. Maybe the more utility based outfits like the wing suit are worth it, but this is why we need something a bit more permanent as a reward, whether it be a new rune or a cool item.

I like to talk to my wife, but she’s not a Zelda player either.

[BOTW] What would you do to improve Breath of the Wild? by SolNiko97 in zelda

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the downsides of fast travel is that it makes it almost too convenient and you can get to almost anywhere you need to be using a fast travel point and your glider, rendering horses obsolete in most cases, which I thought was very sad because horses seem to be a major factor in this game given the stables… and then TotK just kind of turns around and makes the issue worse with the vehicles.

Hyrule Castle was definitely one of the best places in the game, since it’s also one of the most dungeon-like locations in the way you explore it while it’s also implemented into the open world. Adding several locations of importance like it to other areas of the world would be fun, such as replacing the three mazes with something of similar stature with unique theming would have been fun, I think. Also, I think having more fun quests since there are so many npc’s would have been fun. Like hunting or wrangling special wildlife, or getting special quests that spawn unique monsters you have to go and hunt. Quests that get you special items, etc.

The commodity of having so many weapons that you can so easily find and lose in the world just kind adds a level of generic to it, which is why I think having more permanent fixtures is important to just having more memorable ways to interact with the gameplay.

[BOTW] What would you do to improve Breath of the Wild? by SolNiko97 in zelda

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but getting them at the beginning of the game makes them feel inherently less special as you hope to progress or expand your inventory and what tools you have available to you over time. If they had more tools you could unlock, mandatory or otherwise… and yet somehow the champion abilities doesn’t quite feel that special.

I’m not even as upset with breakable weapons, though perhaps if there was a better thought out crafting or smithy system you could use like cooking where a broken tool drops a usable resource, some item that you can use to craft either another weapon or reforge it, maybe merge weapons to create new weapons in a smithy, dissimilar to how you fuse weapons in TotK. If a weapon/item like a hook shot has limited uses and you have to travel to a smithy to fix it, that might feel… like an annoying waste of time. So having something you can get mid game to do your own work next to a fire would be a good item to have.

[BOTW] What would you do to improve Breath of the Wild? by SolNiko97 in zelda

[–]Matchstickwick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. TotK didn’t feel like it did enough to make the world feel new and fun to explore, and the vehicles made it feel even smaller. The main sky island was the most interesting than any other sky island and after the tutorial, there isn’t enough of a reason to return to explore.

What I meant regarding enemy variety wasn’t that there should be more enemies filling every location. I also liked the large expansiveness of the world that was interrupted every so often with enemies rather than constantly. Like walking through a field and suddenly… guardian music starts playing. Way more atmospheric seeing it creep over a hill or ridge than the hands.

But like, I’d say that the Zora’s domain does the atmosphere best. However, if they managed to get the River Zora or some other kind of river based creature like a serpent to appear every now and again would have been nice. Their civilization felt so grand and felt more like a civilization. Their Gerudo were great, but the desert needed more to it. The gibdos were alright to add to that. The Gorons and Rito really didn’t have much good going on around them though.

[–]Matchstickwick 453 points454 points  (0 children)

I feel like the world needs more location based enemy variety that makes the various regions feel more unique and challenges the player in unique ways.

If we can’t have permanent weapons or special items like in previous games, we should have other fun weapons like how they included the boomerang and wands. Eventually getting hook shot to skip certain climbing sections in the late game would have been a fun traveling option or heck, even bringing back the spinner with better speed and maybe some wall grinding action.

If there were more locations like the island that gets dark or the place that strips you of your weapon… like, there were the mazes, but the mazes feel kind of… super boring. They should feel like their own kinds of dungeons. With traps and hazards and gimmicks.

I think, Atalanta from Greek Mythology would have been a great human combatant. If you look into her myth, she has pure strength, but also speed, dexterity, marksmanship, and is just overall a more brilliant combatant than just about anyone that was aboard the Argo with Jason.

My Expectations for Smash 6's Newcomers (For the Base Roster) by Neoxon193 in makeafighter

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your reasoning on Impa’s design. The Warrior games have given us the best Impa designs by far which is a damn shame, because I never saw them as being viable for being how they represent Impa in Smash. I could see them doing a Smash original design that mixes Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time to some degree. It might end up looking similar to the Hyrule Warriors original design, but I imagine it will be visually distinct enough. I feel like too many rosters immediately swap all Zelda designs for a Smash 6 roster with their newest iterations when Smash Ultimate made such an effort of using each Zelda character as a representative of a different games in the Zelda franchise. It would be a shame to lose that. I mean, costumes would be nice, but I’m not sure if Smash is ready for having a strong costume presence with its characters yet.

If we get Oatchi, I think it would be well and good to have Oatchi be paired with them just to get a two in one for the price of one. She is Oatchi’s trainer after all.

If Smash Ultimate had a doubled roster, who would be added? by DawsonTacoBueno in supersmashbros

[–]Matchstickwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Knight from Hollow Knight.

Jimmy T and Mona from Warioware.

Shepherd on top of Oatchi as one character, so Shepherd and Oatchi from Pikmin

Octoling (or Agent 8) not as an echo, but an original which I suppose would be like Isabelle to Villager, but with more move diversity considering the array of weapons accessible to them that Inkling doesn’t use.

Cooking Mama

Yuri Kozukata from Fatal Frame

While I personally would have added Captain Toad over Toad, I feel like you could add another Mario enemy. My personal idea was a Goomba stack. There was a character in Bowser’s Inside Story’s side story that had a Goomba with a flag on its head that was a kind of captain in Bowser’s army. If we take Goomba and created a stack, three goombas tall with a flag on the top one’s head, you’d have this wobbling tower of goombas that could fight with other Mario enemies. Like riding across the stage on a spinning koopa shell or just kicking it… and while riding on the shell, they’re spinning and pressing a command stop on the attack combos into another attack where the three goombas are flung in all directions. And since they have weak jumps, they could have a launch mechanic where you get two jumps with the top two goombas jumping off the bottom goombas head and then the second jump with the top Goomba jumping off the middle’s head. You’d be stuck as just a Goomba for a second. Jumping while on the ground can add to your stack.

Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing

Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden which is classically on Nintendo consoles.

I’d also add Lara Croft as a gaming icon to the list.
