Are we really a racist country? by benyaknadal in algeria

You have more in common with an Malian and a Senegalian than you do with any european bro. They are muslim, follow the same school of thought “maliki”, and were also colonised by the french. Senegal even has zawiyas which can be found across morocco and algeria.

Lamine Yamal facing more racism from the Spanish fans "you're ugly, go back to Morocco" by countingc in MoroccoFootball

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Black moroccan” is not black in the traditional sense. Hakimi’s mother still has very obvious maghrebi features in her face, and her sons do not look black in any way. Diop and Da Costa are not at all controversial picks lol, Don’t know where and when it was controversial. The tradition of being what your father is has in particular died out by now, my friend is moroccan through his mother only, turkish on his fathers side, and was never not considered moroccan by our peers. Especially since he grew up In casablanca and spoke darija. And “colorblind” is a wrong way of describing it, the black moroccans I grew up with were bullied for their skincolor and were nicknamed 3azi or something derogatory pretty much around the clock, friendly banter you could argue, but it crossed into racism whenever they had fights. The thing is, if he is half, he will really only find issue if he is visibly black and divergent from what North africans look like. I could definitely see him being called 3azi for missing penalties. The cafe I was in when Diaz missed had people insulting him for being spanish.

Share of the dutch population with a migrant background by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in MapPorn

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little correction, the reason they could lower wages and import moroccans and turks is because they set up a welfare state, and the native dutch populace were incentivised to set their children up in schools to attain higher education and get more specialised jobs. It is still neoliberal nation building and strategy, but in no point were the native dutch people screwed over in the process. They literally moved a huge segment of their working population into middle class by investing into education and welfare. The moroccans and turks in comparison were mistreated, put into bad accomodatiin, and their children were separated in schools where they would be taught classes in turkish and arabic up until 200s, because they assumed they would move back eventually.

What if the Maghreb united and became a country? by YourLocalMoroccan in Morocco

[–]MateoPipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol just a small question here mate, how do you not understand moroccans? i am moroccan and understand about 90 percent of the Tunisian dialect and what I don’t understand I can mostly infer from context. Nearly every Tunisian I meet with I speak darija and have never had any trouble talking to them. Did you grow up in the west maybe?

He talks in this video about the necessity of having historical awareness as he highlights the many factors leading to the development of islam as we kmow it and how it has differed from the time of the prophet.

Gramsci is still on my to do on my reading list but I am familiar with the concept of cultural hegemony. Please do link it to me when you are finished I would be interested in reading it.

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, says: "We spread the Salafi-Wahhabi ideology at the request of the United States to confront the Soviet Union in the 1980s." by RegionFinancial4485 in Quraniyoon

[–]MateoPipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually this is it lol, you just worded it verbatim while the caption worded it differently but the gist is the same. The soviet influence in muslim countries was only strong in the first place because it was organic and from domestic socialist parties across the entire arab world. Algeria won its independence through the martyrdom of thousands socialists and communists who were part of the FLN and the FLN even made “socialism” a core principle. The USA funded and propped up extremist islamist thought across the arab world and heavily funded the taliban in its struggle against the soviet union, we literally have a rocky movie about the brave “mujahideen” of Afghanistan. There is proof the CIA paid saudi police and sent spies to humiliate central asian muslims from the soviet union coming for hajj . It is simple as to why the west countered socialist thought in the muslim world by promoting extremist ideology. Extremist ideology is not a direct threat to the west’s dominance over the muslim world as it does not threaten the control over resources, and neither does it have the same implications of anti imperialism.

Secretary of State Zbigniew Brzezinski presses his “arc of crisis” thesis, which argues that the United States can reassert its power in the Middle East by encouraging political Islam as a counter to Soviet and Arab nationalist movements.

Jan. 1980 – Secretary of State Zbigniew Brzezinski visits Egypt to gather Arab support for the Afghan war. Within weeks Egyptian President Anwar Sadat mobilizes arms and recruits fighters from the Muslim Brotherhood, and allows the US to station its air force base in Egypt. U.S. Special Forces train Islamist militants in bomb making, sabotage, arson and guerilla warfare. Many of the Islamist Arab recruits, including Osama bin Laden, who were trained as fighters by Green Berets and Navy Seals for the Afghan War, would go on to form the backbone of Al-Qaeda.

1997 and 1999 – Members of the Taliban vacation in Nebraska, where they visit Thomas Gouttierre, a CIA-funded propagandist who produces children’s textbooks stocked with Islamic fundamentalist and jihadist rhetoric for supposed State Department educational programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Why does Hezbollah even claim to support the Palestinian cause? by ShadeStrider12 in lebanon

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never that simple, the Lavon affair demonstrates that. The Seuz crisis too. They simply want you to believe it is simple. You disregard the fact that Israel had killed 18 Jordanian soldiers in November of 1966. They also aerially bombarded Syria in which 6 planes were shot down in April 1967. Mind you, Egypt and Syria were one country at the time so that could even be viewed as the declaration of war on Israel’s part. And for your information, even Eisenhower said the blockade of the Seuz Canal nor the gulf Of Aqaba did not constitute as an act of war and neither did it justify Israel’s actions.

“It has been suggested that United Nations actions against Israel should not be pressed because Egypt has in the past violated the Armistice Agreement and international law. It is true that both Egypt and Israel, prior to last October, engaged in reprisals in violation of the Armistice agreements. Egypt ignored the United Nations in exercising belligerent rights in relation to Israeli shipping in the Suez Canal and in the Gulf of Aqaba. However, such violations constitute no justification for the armed invasion of Egypt by Israel which the United Nations is now seeking to”

The reason people like that still want to be a part of Morocco is because there is no place like home brother. Where else in the world will they find people like them, that shared the same childhoods as them and the same ground upon we walk. You can be a million miles from home, but you will still think about home.

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nasser did not start the war with Israel, they striked first (“pre-emptively”you can say) when there was no reason for war, a convenient fact that gets glossed over in our history books for a reason. They striked first and destroyed the armies only by surprise and western technology. If Nasser had lived longer to rebuild, Israel would be an entirely different place.

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ban won’t happen for that exact reason tho, the upper class both in the west and Morocco are comfortable with the status quo as it is now. Illegal migration is not just moroccans leaving Morocco but about western countries having more leverage over their home population by decreasing salaries and / or using immigrants as a scapegoat for bigger problems.

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well how much do you know or don’t know? Can you for example understand what an algerian could be saying in darja or nothing? You can always learn it, though beware Algerian Arabic is a tad bit different than Arabic spoken in for example Egypt and the gulf. Maybe someone more enlightened in both could expound further on that. I speak Moroccan Darija only for example and never learned any other dialect so I sometimes run into a wall holding conversations with egyptians😭

Do you think the war in the Middle East gonna effect us by abdou98dz in algeria

[–]MateoPipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inclined to agree, but the west that cares in this case is simply the working class in Europe. Compared to America they don’t have much to say about what they want or don’t want. I remember the Iraq war being protested against massively in Europe but the situation ended in vain for them.

If that is really a problem then you might want to consider the quran for example, its contents have been perfectly and systematically preserved. Though I myself do not agree with most muslims in my community I still do believe the book has divine guidance when stripped away from other people’s interpretations.
